Race 1: TOTAL SPORTS TRAVEL 2MW H'CAP – 1200M
1st – Renouf 2nd – Carolina's Boy 3rd – Twanged 4th – Triple Pe
ASIMBA (N. Jolly) jumped outwards at the start.
ST NICCO (J. Ford) was caught three wide after the start and raced wide throughout.
After travelling a short distance SPEEDIE GONZALES (B. El-Issa) was inclined to race ungenerously and appeared to attempt to buck. Passing the 1000m SPEEDIE GONZALES, when being restrained, raced ungenerously and blundered. The connections of SPEEDIE GONZALES were advised that a warning would be placed against the horse.
On straightening ASIMBA became cramped for room between PROPHET JEWEL (A. Pattillo) and SPEEDIE GONZALES.
TWANGED (S. Seamer) was held up for clear running until near the 250m.
Apprentice B. Hull, the rider of TRIPLE PE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 300m he permitted his mount to shift ground which resulted in JOKINGLY (T. Treichel) having to be checked and contributing to ASIMBA being checked. B. Hull's licence to ride was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, to commence at midnight on Wednesday, 29 June, and to expire at midnight on Friday, 8 July 2005.
Race 2: QRSE HAMILTON HOTEL 1MW H'CAP – 1400M
1st – Gilded Youth 2nd – Atriums 3rd –Thorpe 4th – Goodfella
GILDED YOUTH was examined behind the barriers by the Club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to run.
CASUAL CHICK (J. Byrne) and HAMAH (G. Scimone) made contact on jumping away.
PRINCE OF ASHES (B. Stewart) missed the start.
ACTIVE COMBAT (G. Palmer) and MUSTANG MAGIC (T. Treichel) were caught wide early and were obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.
Rounding the first turn ACTIVE COMBAT, which was pulling hard, had to be checked off the heels of MUSTANG MAGIC and raced wider on the track.
Near the 1200m NEW YORK NEW YORK (A. Pattillo) had to be eased to avoid the heels of CASUAL CHICK which shifted in when not fully clear.
PRINCE OF ASHES was retired from the event approaching the first turn. When questioned, B. Stewart stated that leaving the 1200m the horse had to be steadied off the heels of GILDED YOUTH (G. McKeon); however the horse then raced ungenerously and shifted in making heavy contact with RUE THE SAINT (J. McKinnon). B. Stewart added that he felt there was something significantly amiss with the horse and retired it from the event. A veterinary examination was carried out on PRINCE OF ASHES and the surgeon reported at the time of examination he could find no abnormality. A further veterinary examination of PRINCE OF ASHES later in the day still revealed no abnormalities. A swab sample was taken from PRINCE OF ASHES. Trainer L. Ross reported that the owners had informed him after the race that the horse had on a previous occasion acted similarly in a race in New South Wales. B. Stewart also advised the inquiry that after the horse had reacted abnormally he eased it out of the race and it was only after that the horse seemed to free up in its action. The connections of PRINCE OF ASHES were instructed to trial the horse before racing again and the circumstances were noted.
TYCOON ROSE (L. Deguara) had difficulty obtaining clear running until leaving the 200m.
When questioned as to the seemingly disappointing performance of CASUAL CHICK, J. Byrne stated that between the 1000m and the 700m the horse may have resented him restraining it as he was trying to get the horse to settle after obtaining the lead in the early stages. He added that this may have had some effect on the horse not finishing the race off. A veterinary examination of CASUAL CHICK revealed no abnormalities.

At the 400m STRAVINSKY HEART (B. El-Issa) was tightened for room between GRECOLO, which was laying out rounding the home turn, and ACCELERATION, which hung in. J. Byrne then became awkward after attempting to straighten GRECOLO when making contact with STRAVINSKY HEART. DUELLED (S. Arnold), which was racing to the outside, was inconvenienced in this incident.
A veterinary examination of TIMELESS MISS revealed no abnormalities.

In the vicinity of the 700m POETIC PAPAL had to be steadied after improving on to the heels off RIVER TO THE SEA (T. Treichel).

BUCKLE MY SHOE (M. Rice) and DEEP IN THE WOODS were caught wide in the early stages and obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.
Rounding the home turn BUCKLE MY SHOE (M. Rice) shifted out to improve, taking TELDAWN (A. Merritt) out on to YVONNE (J. Byrne).

PRINCE OF TOFFS was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon prior to racing and cleared to start.
On return to scale A. Pattillo, the rider of 3rd placegetter FOREST JIM, lodged an objection against EMPYREAL (J. Ford) being declared 2nd, alleging interference over the final 70 metres. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the official video, the protest was upheld and the Judge's placings were amended to: 10, 1, 6 and 7. However, the announcement of correct weight was delayed to enable trainer H. Norman to view the official video to ascertain whether CRIMSON GOWN had been afforded a fair start. After viewing the film, stewards and Mr Norman were satisfied that the horse was afforded the opportunity to jump with the field and declared CRIMSON GOWN a runner. At a subsequent inquiry J. Ford pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that leaving the 100m he permitted EMPYREAL to shift out when not sufficiently clear of FOREST JIM, resulting in FOREST JIM having to be checked and being taken out on to GRACE AND FAVOUR (S. Seamer), making contact with that horse's hind quarters. J. Ford's licence to ride was suspended for a period of 10 meetings, to commence at midnight on Thursday, 30 June and to expire at midnight on Sunday, 17 July. In addition. J. Ford was fined $1,500.
CRIMSON GOWN (Y. Yamazaki), which was fractious in the barriers, got its head down and when being corrected by the attendant, the horse then reared and lost significant ground at the start. Trainer H. Norman was advised to obtain a further barrier certificate before the horse races again.
FOREST JIM was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and near the 400m was disappointed for a run between JEREMIAD (T. Pannell) and MOTIVATE (B. Stewart) which shifted out to improve.
Approaching the 300m FOREST JIM was again disappointed for a run between PRINCE OF TOFFS (M. Cahill) and JEREMIAD, and near the 200m had to switch to the inside to obtain clear running, where it struck interference passing the 100m.
