Supplementary Report

From SCTC, 22.8.10 – Race 6.
K. Pope, rider of ABBAJAZZ, was issued with a reprimand for using his whip in a forehand manner on 7 occasions prior to the 100m. In assessing penalty, stewards acknowledged K. Pope’s good record regarding rule breaches of this nature.

From SCTC, 22.8.10 – Race 1.
B. El-Issa, rider of MAGIC OF THUNDER, was fined $200 for using his whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m.

From SCTC, 22.8.10
Apprentice C. McIver was fined $300 for failing to fulfil engagements on CRAIGLEA FALCON, ARCUP and CRAIGLEA FIGHTER at the above meeting.

From QTC, 8.7.10 – Race 4
Apprentice L. Rolls pleaded guilty under a charge of careless riding under AR137(a), in that he permitted CHICKATILLA to shift in after passing the 700m when insufficiently clear of MOMENT BY MOMENT, resulting in MOMENT BY MOMENT clipping the heels of CHICKATILLA and blundering. L. Rolls’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 25 August, and to expire at midnight, 8 September 2010. Following this incident, MOMENT BY MOMENT shifted out abruptly and made heavy contact with REGAL ESTATE , which was taken out on to RASCAL, which in turn resulted in RASCAL taking the heels of REGAL ESTATE and blundering badly, resulting in apprentice J. Kropp being dislodged. Stewards were of the opinion that the racing manners of MOMENT BY MOMENT played a significant part in this incident and could not attribute blame to any one rider.

Race 1: All Hallows School Maiden Plate - 2242m
1st – Flying Touchdown 2nd – Prince Octane 3rd – Back To Abilene 4th - Hawky

WILD WILD ROSE (S. Katsidis) and FLAMING SILK (K. Pope) made contact on jumping away.

BACK TO ABILENE (E. Kehoe) was slow to begin.

FLAMING SILK hung in under pressure in the early part of the straight and near the 300m faltered.

S. Katsidis was questioned regarding the performance of WILD WILD ROSE. Jockey Katsidis stated that the mare travelled well behind HAWKY until leaving the 600m, whereby it put in a number of awkward strides and lost considerable ground. S. Katsidis added that he was reluctant to ride WILD WILD ROSE out in the home straight as he was not entirely comfortable with the mare’s action. Trainer B. Costello was advised that WILD WILD ROSE must compete satisfactorily in an official trial prior to racing again and must be examined by a veterinary surgeon following such trial. A post race veterinary examination of WILD WILD ROSE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. A swab sample was taken from WILD WILD ROSE.

Race 2:Channel 7 3yo Class 3 H'cap - 1000m
1st – Wonderful Lass 2nd – Executive Officer 3rd – Better Option 4th – Hidden Shuffle

DULACCA JET (C. Munce) was slow to begin.

After passing the 600m, EXECUTIVE OFFICER (J. Byrne) hung out across the heels of BETTER OPTION (B. El-Issa) and had to be eased.

Approaching the 300m, BETTER OPTION shifted in under pressure and made contact with the hind quarters of HIDDEN SHUFFLE (M. Radecker). BETTER OPTION and HIDDEN SHUFFLE again brushed on 2 occasions approaching the 200m.

WONDERFUL LASS (S. Katsidis) was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.

When questioned regarding the performance of DULACCA JET, C. Munce explained that whilst the filly was slow to begin, DULACCA JET never travelled well during the race and, in his view, was disappointing. Trainer K. Kemp advised that DULACCA JET had worked well since its last start and was of the view that the filly may not have appreciated the drop back in distance from its previous 2 starts over 1200m. A post race veterinary examination of DULACCA JET failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 3: Childhood Cancer Support Class 6 H'cap - 1000m
1st – Spanish Fling 2nd – Seqsational 3rd – Lucky Deluchi 4th – Power Of George

Connections advised that due to there being a number of runners with speed drawn to the inside of SPANISH FLING, if circumstances permit the horse would be ridden in a rearward position today. The horse was ridden accordingly.

POWER OF GEORGE (R. Wiggins) began awkwardly.

R. Wiggins was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on POWER OF GEORGE, which settled at the rear of the field today which was contrary to its normal racing pattern. R. Wiggins explained he was to ride the horse in a forward position behind the leaders, however after beginning only fairly, POWER OF GEORGE did not show early speed and settled at the rear of the field. Trainer Mrs H. Page confirmed these instructions, adding that POWER OF GEORGE had a tendency to overrace if allowed to lead. POWER OF GEORGE bled during the event. Mrs Page was advised that POWER OF GEORGE would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.

Race 4: Subiaco CG&E Maiden H'cap – 1400m
1st – Satch 2nd – Belltone 3rd – Reign Of Courage 4th – Golden Clang

Apprentice A. Butler was fined $200 for failing to claim his full allowance on MAYWYNINTHESPRING.

Stewards accepted the explanation from trainer B. Wakefield for the late declaration of rider for EAT MORE DUST by the prescribed time.

MAYWYNINTHESPRING (A. Butler) stood flatfooted at the start and lost considerable ground. Connections were advised that MAYWYNINTHESPRING must obtain 2 further barrier certificates, one of which must be obtained in an official barrier trial.

GRAND HOMME (B. El-Issa) was slow to begin.

ROBDON RAMBLE (S. Bogenhuber), when overracing near the 1100m, shifted in and made contact with the running rail and became unbalanced.

Following this race, C. Munce was examined by the doctor and stood down from his remaining engagements. Riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.

Race 5: Ormiston College F&M H'cap - 1400m
1st –Sophies Special 2nd – Along Came Dolly 3rd – Puerto Vallarta 4th – Geneva Gold

HIPERSONA was examined by the veterinary surgeon upon arrival at the barriers at the request of its rider, R. Wiggins. Following the inspection, the mare was cleared to start.

Near the 900m, REGAL SANCTUM (C. McIver) had to be eased to avoid the heels of FAKER (B. Looker), which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. Apprentice B. Looker, rider of FAKER, was issued with a severe reprimand and advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground. Further, apprentice C. McIver, rider of REGAL SANCTUM, was issued with a severe reprimand for the standard of evidence he provided to stewards during the course of the inquiry.

Approaching the 800m, GENEVA GOLD (B. El-Issa) shifted out around the heels of DIAMOND MISTRESS (J. Holder), resulting in REGAL SANCTUM (C. McIver) being forced wider on the track. REGAL SANCTUM then raced 3 wide for the remainder of the event.

Passing the 800m, FAKER (B. Looker), which was overracing, had to be steadied off the heels of OUR HUSSEY (P. Hammersley). GENEVA GOLD, which was following, also had to be steadied, and SARABAH ROSE (M. Hughes) was obliged to steady and shifted outwards.

Rounding the home turn, SARABAH ROSE M. Hughes) was inconvenienced when tightened for room between REGAL SANCTUM and HIPERSONA (R. Wiggins), which shifted out.

PUERTO VALLARGA (S. Katsidis) was held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn.

ALONG CAME DOLLY (M. Cahill) raced wide throughout.

When questioned regarding the performance of FAKER, B. Looker explained that the mare travelled well until he shifted wider on the track passing the 600m, and from that point FAKER failed to respond to his riding and weakened in the home straight.

Stewards questioned trainer B. Dodson and strapper D. Kehoe regarding the presentation of DESERT BUNNY for a pre-race sample when a direction was given to provide FAKER for such sample. After taking evidence from the parties concerned, stewards adjourned the matter to enable swab samples taken from FAKER and DESERT BUNNY to be analysed.

Race 6: Mimiki Foundation Class 4 H'cap - 1200m
1st – Alberton Park 2nd – Convictor 3rd – Ponche Soto 4th - Elsquare

As R. Wiggins was to be overweight, B. El-Issa was substituted as the rider of HEARTY LAUGHTER. R. Wiggins was fined $200.

PONCHE SOTO (S. Bogenhuber) and STALLONE (B. Stewart) overraced in the early stages and approaching the 800m, PONCHE SOTO shifted out, forcing RAIN BAY (M. Hellyer) wider on the track.

Also near the 800m, STALLONE (B. Stewart) had to be restrained for some distance to avoid the heels of RAIN BAY (M. Hellyer).

HEARTY LAUGHTER bled during the event. Trainer H. Page was advised that the mare would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.

HAWK HUNTER lost its near fore plate in running.

Race 7: www.brc.com.au Class 3 Plate – 1600m
1st – Web Of Love 2nd – Mr Shadow Boxer 3rd – Zenton 4th – Heartshaker

Correct weight was delayed to enable M. Cahill, rider of the 2nd placegetter, MR SHADOW BOXER, to view the stewards’ footage to ascertain if he had grounds to lodge a protest against the winner, WEB OF LOVE. Subsequently, M. Cahill declined to proceed.

HEARTSHAKER (J. Byrne) was restrained at the start to the rear of the field to gain a position closer to the rail.

ROGUES (J. Holder) raced wide in the early stages.

Approaching the 300m, MR SHADOW BOXER (M. Cahill) shifted out to improve, resulting in HOWGOODSTHAT (J. Taylor) having to be eased. M. Cahill, rider of MR SHADOW BOXER, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future. Simultaneous to this incident, WEB OF LOVE (S. Katsidis) made contact with the hind quarters of ROGUES (J. Taylor), resulting in that runner becoming unbalanced.

Nearing the 100m, MR SHADOW BOXER was tightened for room between WEB OF LOVE and ZENTON (R. Wiggins), which shifted out. Shortly after, MR SHADOW BOXER was further inconvenienced when WEB OF LOVE shifted in slightly under pressure.

M. Hellyer, rider of POWERFUL SPHERE, explained that the gelding never travelled well during the race and weakened badly over the final 200m. A post race veterinary examination of POWERFUL SPHERE revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. A veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced before POWERFUL SPHERE again races.
