From Doomben, 28.5.11 – Race 8.
B. Stewart, rider of DRENALIN, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that near the 200m he permitted his mount to shift out when not sufficiently clear of CARRY THE CLUBS (C. Brown), which had to be checked. In issuing this charge, stewards conceded that BALAVAN (D. Dunn) did shift in and have a minor contribution to the incident. B. Stewart was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 4.6.11 to 13.6.11.
Race 1: Mitty’s Class 6 Plate - 1800m
1st – Heartshaker 2nd – Legislature 3rd – World Wide 4th - Yummy
As H. Bowman was late to arrive on course, L. Cassidy was substituted as the rider of WORLD WIDE.
SANTO DE LAGO (J. Bowditch) and BUGSYTWOSHOES (C. Munce) were slow to begin.
SEEYOU (G. Colless) and SANTO DE LAGO overraced in the early and middle stages.
WORLD WIDE (L. Cassidy) raced 3 wide in the early stages to a point near the 1200m.
PRIMED (S. Seamer) and SEEYOU laid in under pressure in the home straight.
LOVES A CHALLENGE (R. Wiggins) and DANAGAZE (G. Schofield) raced 3 wide throughout.
Stewards sought an explanation from G. Colless regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of SEEYOU. G. Colless stated the gelding was having its first start over 1800 metres and the horse overraced until a point near the 1000m and, in his opinion, this had a significant effect on the horse’s capacity to finish the race off. He added that he indicated to connections that SEEYOU would be better suited restricted to races over a mile or less where the early tempo would be more genuine.
Race 2: Al Basti Equiworld Eagle Farm Cup – 2200m
1st – Glass Harmonium 2nd – Shoot Out 3rd – Scenic Shot 4th - Fanjura
Connections advised that TRIPLE HONOUR would be ridden in a more forward position if circumstances permit. After being slow to begin, TRIPLE HONOUR settled in a midfield position with cover.
TRIPLE HONOUR (L. Cassidy) was slow to begin.
G. Colless, rider of SHOOT OUT, and S. Scriven, rider of SCENIC SHOT, were each fined $200 for using their whips more then 5 times prior to the 100m.
A post race veterinary exanation of SCENIC SHOT revealed the horse to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer D. Morton was advised that he forward a veterinary clearance to stewards before SCENIC SHOT would be permitted to race again.
Race 3: American Honey Spear Chief H'cap – 1500m
1st – Mystical Grey 2nd – Silent Movie 3rd – Tampiko 4th – Fifteen Caret
Connections of GOLD IN DUBAI advised that the gelding would be ridden with cover if circumstances permit. Rider C. Brown reported that when racing wide in the early stages, as he was unable to obtain a position midfield with cover, he elected to restrain GOLD IN DUBAI to the rear of the field near the 1000m to gain a position closer to the rail.
JAZZ HEART (J. Byrne) was slow to begin.
EMBLEM OF LIBERTY (J. Maskiell) raced wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to cross to the position outside the BORN TO ROCK (L. Cropp) passing the 1000m. Following this BORN TO ROCK commenced to overrace for some distance.
Upon entering the home straight, GENERAL PURPLE (S. Galloway) had to be steadied when tightened for room between TAMPIKO (L. Nolen) and FIFTEEN CARAT (T. Bell), which shifted out in an endeavour to obtain clear running.
EIRE OF MAGIC (Matthew Palmer) was momentarily held up for clear running in the early part of the straight behind the heels of the tiring MR SLICK (J. Bowditch).
Between the 300m and 200m, FIFTEEN CARAT had difficulty obtaining clear running when awkwardly placed at the heels of TAMPIKO.
Near the 100m, SILENT MOVIE (S. Seamer) and BORN TO ROCK made contact.
MR SLICK was held up for clear running over the concluding stages when awkwardly placed at the heels of BORN TO ROCK.
BORN TO ROCK jumped a shadow at the winning post.
MYSTICAL GREY (E. Wilkinson) laid in under pressure in the home straight.
A post race veterinary examination of EMBLEM OF LIBERTY, which compounded in the home straight, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 4: Al Basti Equiworld BRC Sires Produce Stakes - 1400m
1st – Hot Snitzel 2nd – Playtime 3rd – Mahisara 4th – Dowager Queen
The declaration of correct weight was delayed as stewards sought to satisfy themselves if FREE WHEELING had been denied a fair start. In endeavouring the arrive at a proper conclusion, stewards took evidence from jockey C. Brown, Mr P. Snowden, trainer of FREE WHEELING, and Mr P. Cousins, Brisbane Racing Club starter. It was established that prior to the start FREE WHEELING was standing well and shortly before the start was effected leant back on the rear barrier gates. As the start was effected, FREE WHEELING reared, dislodging jockey C. Brown. In all the circumstances, stewards could not be satisfied that what had occurred resulted in FREE WHEELING being denied a fair start in accordance with the provisions of AR134A, FREE WHEELING was declared a runner and correct weight was announced on the numbers semaphored by the Judge. Trainer P. Snowden was advised that FREE WHEELING must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
DOUBLE IMPACT (S. Scriven) was slow to begin.
Shortly after the start, DOUBLE IMPACT had to be steadied from the heels of LARGO DA BARRA (O. Bosson) when that runner shifted in when not quite clear. Shortly after this, FLASHY FELLA (C. Ormsby) also had to be steadied when tightened for room by LARGO DA BARRA, which again shifted in when not fully clear. O. Bosson, rider of LARGO DA BARRA, was advised to ensure he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground.
DOUBLE IMPACT raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
Stewards sought an explanation from K. McEvoy regarding the performance of BENFICA. K. McEvoy explained he would have liked to have settled the colt in a forward position, however after being slow to begin, he was unable to obtain a position midfield with cover and rather than trail FLASHY FELLA, he shifted 3 wide and travelled comfortably in that position with cover. He added that he improved his position approaching the home turn around DOUBLE IMPACT and BENFICA quickened under his riding in the early part of the straight, however the colt’s run had ended near the 200m. K. McEvoy further added he was satisfied with the performance of BENFICA as the colt was not suited by pattern of the race.
SHOW A PRINCE (G. Colless) lost its near hind plate in running.
Race 5: Patinack Farm Dane Ripper F&M Stakes - 1400m
1st – Hurtle Myrtle 2nd – Zero Rock 3rd – Pontiana 4th – Culminate
PALACIO DE CRISTAL (D. Dunn), YOSEI (J. Maskiell) and CARIAD (A. Pattillo) were all slow to begin.
PONTIANA (J. Taylor) was tightened for room at the start between ST GERMAINE (J. McDonald) and CULMINATE (O. Bosson), both of which shifted ground.
MARQUARDT (H. Bowman) was tightened for room on jumping away between TALLOW (J. Byrne) and ACQUIRED (P. Hammersley), which shifted in.
Passing the 1200m, YOSEI, when overracing, had to be checked from the heels of MOMENT IN TIME (S. Galloway).
CARIAD raced ungenerously when being restrained for some distance in the early and middle stages.
Leaving the 400m, ST GERMAINE shifted out around the heels of JASMINKA (L. Cassidy) to obtain clear running and in doing so made contact with TALLOW.
Near the 200m, MARQUARDT attempted to take a narrow run between JASMINKA and PALACIO DE CRISTAL. At the same stage, JASMINKA shifted out slightly, which resulted in MARQUARDT shifting out further and PALACIO DE CRISTAL being taken across the heels of ST GERMAINE. Stewards conceded that the movement of JASMINKA contributed to this incident, however they nevertheless issued H. Bowman, rider of MARQUARDT, with a reprimand and advised him to ensure in similar circumstances there is sufficient room when attempting to improve his position in future.
JASMINKA raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
RETURN TO SENDER (L. Nolen) and TALLOW raced wide throughout.
Race 6: Albion Jeep QTC Cup – 1300m
1st – Varenna Miss 2nd – Phelan Ready 3rd – Zingaling 4th – Listen Son
Stewards permitted J. Maskiell to ride DEER VALLEY half a kilogram over his declared riding weight. Stewards will interview J. Maskiell at a subsequent date.
MILITARY ROSE (S. Seamer) was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon prior to the start and cleared to race.
DALZAR (J. Taylor) was slow to begin.
Near the 1000m, DEER VALLEY (J. Maskiell) was tightened for room by KING PULSE (L. Cropp). As a result, DEER VALLEY shifted in and made heavy contact with SINCERO (T. Clark).
Approaching and passing the 1000m, MEET GEORGE (S. Galloway), when overracing, had to be restrained from the heels of DEER VALLEY and as a result, MEET GEORGE shifted out, taking PHELAN READY (S. Scriven) wider on the track.
C. Brown, rider of KENNY’S WORLD, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 800m he shifted in when insufficiently clear of VARENNA MISS (D. Dunn), resulting in VARENNA MISS being taken in onto ZINGALING (T. Bell) resulting in that runner having to be checked. As a consequence of being checked, MEET GEORGE and HUME (G. Schofield), which were following also had to be checked. C. Brown was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 11 June and to expire at midnight, 22 June.
HUME had difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 150m, having to alter course on several occasions to improve.
BLAZING HEARTS (R. Wiggins), KENNY’S WORLD and PHELAN READY raced wide throughout.
Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey T. Clark regarding the performance of SINCERO. He explained that the gelding resented racing inside of runners today. He added that when making ground in the home straight, SINCERO did not sprint as he expected, and near the 200m he improved onto the heels of MILITARY ROSE and as a result had to alter course to the outside of that runner to improve. T. Clark further stated that SINCERO was dropping back from the 1600m of its last start to today’s 1300m race and, in his opinion, SINCERO would be better suited stepping back up in distance. Trainer S. Farley agreed with T. Clark’s comments, in that SINCERO did not seem comfortable racing inside horses and, in his view, had the gelding not had to alter course near the 200m, it would have finished the race off strongly. He added that he would assess in the coming days his immediate racing program for the gelding’s future starts.
A post race veterinary examination of PHELAN READY revealed the horse to be suffering from heat stress.
A post race veterinary examination of MILITARY ROSE revealed the filly to be suffering from thumps. As this was the second occasion in as many starts that MILITARY ROSE has been diagnosed with thumps, trainer G. Heinrich reported that she was going to retire the mare to stud.
Race 7: Treasury Casino Queensland 3yo Fillies Oaks – 2400m
1st – Scarlett Lady 2nd – Becerra 3rd – Shez Sinsational 4th – Divorces
Connections of HEIDILICIOUS advised stewards that if the horse begins well, jockey J. Winks has been instructed to ride the horse in a forward position. As the horse reared at the start, losing ground, it was ridden in a rearward position.
HEIDILICIOUS (J. Winks) reared as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Trainer J. Sadler was advised that he would be required to provide a barrier certificate for HEIDILICIOUS prior to its next race start
DRIVING REIGN (B. Stewart) was slow to begin.
SHEZ SINSATIONAL (O. Bosson) was tightened for room at the start between IN A TANGLE (C. Brown) and AUDACIOUS SPIRIT (D. Dunn), both of which shifted ground.
G. Schofield, rider of FIBRILLATION, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 2100m when insufficiently clear of HIDDEN KISSES (L. Cassidy), resulting in HIDDEN KISSES being taken in across the rightful running of CRAFTY LADY (S. Seamer), which had to be checked. G. Schofield was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 11 June and to expire at midnight, 22 June.
After passing the winning post on the first occasion, DIVORCES (K. McEvoy) had to be checked when tightened for room by SCARLETT LADY (J. McDonald), which was taken in by FILLYDELPHIA (L. Nolen). At a subsequent inquiry, stewards acknowledged that whilst L. Nolen, rider of FILLYDELPHIA, made a concerted effort to relieve the pressure, he was nevertheless issued with a reprimand and reminded of his obligations to allow sufficient room to his fellow riders in similar circumstances in future.
BLACK SPARTA (C. Munce) raced 3 wide in the early stages.
Passing the 1400m, FIBRILLATION commenced to overrace and had to be steadied from the heels of TROPICANA GIRL (H. Bowman).
After passing the 500m, DRIVING REIGN had to be checked to avoid the heels of BLACK SPARTA, which commenced to tire.
Near the 400m, CRAFTY LADY had to be checked from the heels of HEIDILICIOUS when that runner shifted out to improve. At a subsequent inquiry, S. Seamer advised stewards that CRAFTY LADY was the major contributor to this incident by hanging in across the heels of HEIDILICIOUS at that point. Bearing in mind this evidence, stewards did not proceed with the matter although they issued J. Winks, rider of HEIDILICIOUS, with a reprimand for shifting out when not fully clear.
FILLYDELPHIA raced 3 wide throughout.
A post race veterinary examination of BLACK SPARTAN revealed the horse had been galloped on on the off hock.

Leaving the 1100m, AUDACIOUS SPIRIT (D. Dunn), when overracing, got its head up when tightened for room by MISS IMAGICA (B. Avdulla), which was also tightened when CELTIC DANCER (J. Bowditch) shifted in when not clear.
Approaching the 800m, UNDER THE EIFFEL hung out and tightened the running of DOMINI (R. Wiggins).
Jockey G. Colless, rider of STEEL ZIP, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 100m he permitted his mount to shift out and contribute to tightening to SKATING ON ICE and also FASHION, resulting in both of those runners having to be steadied by their riders. G. Colless was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 13 June and to expire at midnight, 22 June 2011.
Jockey H. Bowman, rider of SPIRIT OF BOOM, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that her permitted his mount to shift in near the 100m when not sufficiently clear of FASHION, thereby contributing to interference suffered by FASHION and SKATING ON ICE, which had to be steadied by their respective riders. H. Bowman was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 4 meetings, to commence at midnight, 11 June and to expire at midnight, 16 June 2011.
In the early part of the straight until after passing the 300m, UNDER THE EIFFEL was held up and unable to improve.
