Race 1: AMBASSADOR TRAVEL HAMPDEN STAKES - 1200m

Trainer K. Wood was fined $200 for failing to declare C. Munce as the rider of MY BOY BRANDO by the prescribed time.

MY BOY BRANDO (C. Munce), JOLIE MADELEINE (M. Walker) and CHILWERO (K. McEvoy) were slow to begin.

ONE GREY (M. Rodd) jumped away awkwardly, shifted in and made heavy contact with COSMIC ENDEAVOUR (J. Cassidy), which was taken in on to REGISTER (L. Nolen).

MISSY LONGSTOCKING (D. Browne) overraced in the early stages.

After passing the 600m MY BOY BRANDO shifted in and brushed ONE GREY and became unbalanced.

Near the 300m MOROCCAN ROSE (D. Dunn) became awkward on the heels of ONE GREY and had to alter course to the inside of that runner.

J. Cassidy reported that COSMIC ENDEAVOUR had to work hard in the early stages to obtain the lead near the 900m and soon after straightening was under pressure and was disappointing in its finishing effort. He added that the manner in which the horse raced led him to believe that it had come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination of COSMIC ENDEAVOUR revealed that the filly was restricted in its action behind. A swab sample was taken from COSMIC ENDEAVOUR. Trainer G. Waterhouse will be advised that a veterinary clearance, including the results of blood tests, must be provided to stewards before the horse races again.

M. Cahill reported that after having to pressure VIENNA QUEEN to cross MISSY LONGSTOCKING in the middle stages, the filly did not feel entirely comfortable in its action from that point onwards. Trainer T. Gollan reported that the horse would now be sent for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination of VIENNA QUEEN revealed no significant findings.

Race 2: XXXX GOLD STRAWBERRY ROAD H’CAP - 1600m

VENTURE ON (T. Bell), IBICENCO (L. Nolen), TRANSPORTER (M. Cahill) and THUMBTACKS (J. Cassidy) were slow to begin.

THUMBTACKS overraced in the early stages.

WHITESAILS (M. Bennett) and SOMEDAY (C. Munce) raced wide throughout.

After passing the 400m SOMEDAY shifted out to improve and brushed THUMBTACKS.

GREEN BIRDIE (P. Holmes) lost its off fore plate in running.

As G. Colless was stood down from his remaining engagements by the Club doctor following this event, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 3: MCGRATH DAYBREAK LOVER - 1600m

Connections advised that from the wide barrier LILLIBURLERO (M. Rodd) would be ridden quieter. LILLIBURLERO was caught wide after the start and obliged to work forward to a position outside the leader down the back straight.

The start of this race was delayed as PLATINUM KINGDOM (J. Riddell) cast its off hind plate on the way to the barriers and the farrier attempted to refit this plate but was unable to do so due to the fractious behaviour of PLATINUM KINGDOM. An attempt was then made to remove the near hind plate, which was also unsuccessful, and after consulting with the veterinary surgeon regarding the condition of PLATINUM KINGDOM's feet, stewards permitted the gelding to race without its off hind plate. Trainer L. Latta was issued with a reprimand for the condition of the race plates that PLATINUM KINGDOM was presented to compete in today.

HOLY TOLEDO (G. Cooksley) was slow to begin.

OASIS ROSE (M. Walker) jumped away awkwardly, shifted in and bumped LILLIBURLERO, and then shifted out resulting in LADY ECHELON (D. Browne) being hampered.

SAINT OR SINNER (E. Wilkinson) was checked shortly after the start when tightened for room between LIMES (H. Bowman), which shifted in, and MEDUSA'S MISS (C. Reith), which was taken out by EXIMIUS (C. Newitt).

LUCKY HUSSLER (J. Cassidy) pulled hard when racing wide without cover.

MEDUSA'S MISS and PLATINUM STATE (J. Byrne) raced wide throughout.

HOLY TOLEDO raced ungenerously when being restrained in the early stages.

Rounding the home turn CHEAPSKATER (L. Nolen), when weakening, shifted out away from IMPETUOUS (B. Avdulla) and bumped the hind quarters of SWEET AS BRO (M. Cahill).

Jockey C. Reith reported that despite travelling comfortably throughout, MEDUSA'S MISS failed to respond to his riding in the home straight and proved disappointing. Jockey Reith noted that MEDUSA'S MISS had a tough run at its previous start and in his opinion had come to the end of its preparation. Trainer K. Moses confirmed that MEDUSA'S MISS would now be sent for a spell.

Race 4: EVERGREEN TURF LIGHTNING H’CAP - 1000m

RIVER LAD (E. Wilkinson) blundered at the start.

FALVELINA (T. Bell) was hampered shortly after the start when tightened for room between RIVER LAD and EXCELLANTES (D. Browne), which shifted in and away from ERVBEFEL (P. Hammersley).

B. Avdulla, the rider of HOWMUCHDOYOULOVEME, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 300m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of PENTASIA (C. Reith), resulting in that horse being taken in on to SATIN SHOES (C. Munce), which in turn was taken in on to FALVELINA, which had to be checked severely when tightened for room. Jockey Avdulla's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 meetings, to commence at midnight on Saturday, 15 June, and expire at midnight on Saturday, 29 June 2013.

In the early part of the home straight G'DAY OLD MATE (D. Gauci) had to alter course to the outside of DIAMOND EARTH (P. Robl) in order to improve.

Trainer R. Heathcote was advised that EXCELLANTES, which bled from both nostrils, would now be ineligible to start for a period of three months, and before resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a gallop over 1000m in the presence of a steward.

A post-race veterinary examination SATIN SHOES revealed the mare to have sustained lacerations to the off hind pastern, consistent with being galloped on.

Race 5: PATINACK FARM DANE RIPPER STAKES - 1400m

Correct weight was delayed to afford P. Robl, the rider of 3rd placegetter ARCTIC FLIGHT, the opportunity of viewing the stewards' patrol footage in the home straight to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge an objection against the winner RED TRACER (N. Rawiller). After viewing the video, jockey Robl declined to lodge an objection and correct weight was declared on the Judge's placings.

PERFECTLY STUNNING (C. Newitt) and DISCREET (N. Hall) were slow to begin.

BABEL (D. Browne) overraced in the early stages.

Near the 1000m FLORIA (L. Nolen), when overracing, had to be steadied from the heels of BABEL. SOFT SAND (B. Avdulla) and PERFECTLY STUNNING, which were following, also had to be steadied as a consequence.

PUNCH ON (P. Hammersley) pulled hard in the early stages.

Passing the 700m PANE IN THE GLASS (J. Byrne) shifted away from the heels of PUNCH ON and had to be restrained from the heels of DISCREET.

FIRE UP FIFI (B. Boss), POSTE RESTANTE (M. Cahill) and QUIDNUNC (K. McEvoy) raced wide throughout.

In the early part of the home straight SOFT SAND had difficulty obtaining clear running.

An explanation was sought from C. Munce regarding the vigour he exhibited on RISK AVERSION in the home straight. C. Munce stated that in the early part of the home straight he had difficulty obtaining clear running and passing the 300m he was able to improve to the outside and test the mare with the whip. He further added that RISK AVERSION did not respond to the whip so he elected to apply hands and heels pressure over the final 200m and RISK AVERSION worked to the line well. His explanation was noted.

Race 6: PATINACK FARM J.J. ATKINS - 1600m

HOOKED (R. Wiggins) overraced in the early and middle stages.

VILANOVA (H. Bowman) and OCTANE FLYER (T. Bell) raced wide throughout.

Rounding the home turn GLOBAL DREAM (M. Rodd) was tightened for room between VILANOVA and LOCOMOTION (L. Cassidy), which shifted out.

ZOUSTAR (J. Cassidy) was held up in the early part of the home straight and near the 300m had to angle to the outside of PAXIMADIA (K. McEvoy) in order to improve.

Race 7: CHANNEL SEVEN QUEENSLAND DERBY - 2400m

ELECTRIC FUSION (D. Dunn) was slow to begin.

A short distance after the start LUCKY LUCKY LUCKY (G. Cooksley) was tightened for room between SURVIVED (J. Riddell), which shifted in, and KENTAUR (T. Bell), which shifted in. This resulted in LUCKY LUCKY LUCKY clipping the heels of SURVIVED blundering badly, almost dislodging rider G. Cooksley.

USAINITY (H. Bowman) raced three wide in the early and middle stages and as a result was ridden forward to obtain the lead near the 800m.

Near the 1100m HEATER (M. Cahill) commenced to overrace and had to be steadied from the heels of HONORIUS (M. Rodd). RHYTHM TO SPARE (B. Boss), which was following, also had to be steadied and shifted out abruptly, resulting in SIR DENZEL (C. Newitt) being inconvenienced and taken wider on the track. SIR DENZEL raced wide for the remainder of the event.

Approaching and passing the 1000m CELTIC PRINCE (N. Rawiller), when overracing, had to be steadied from the heels of TRAKSTAR (L. Cassidy). ZAGAMI (K. McEvoy), which was following, momentarily improved to the inside of the heels of CELTIC PRINCE where there was insufficient room and as a result had to be checked.

Near the 500m CELTIC PRINCE attempted to take a narrow run between KENTAUR, which had commenced to weaken, and FAUST (P. Robl). CELTIC PRINCE made contact with the hind quarters of FAUST, which resulted in that runner shifting in slightly and CELTIC PRINCE having to be severely checked. LUCKY LUCKY LUCKY and ZAGAMI, which were following, also had to be checked as a consequence. After being checked, CELTIC PRINCE shifted out, resulting in ELECTRIC FUSION (D. Dunn) being taken out on to the hind quarters of TRAKSTAR. Stewards were of the opinion that this incident was not the result of carelessness by any one rider and no further action was taken. N. Rawiller (CELTIC PRINCE) reported that following this incident he was reluctant to apply pressure as he was of the view that the gelding may have sustained an injury when it had to be severely checked. He added that once balanced, he pressured the horse over the final 250m and it made some ground to the line.

Near the 300m RHYTHM TO SPARE shifted out away from HONORIUS, making contact with SURVIVED.

J. Riddell was questioned regarding the reason he elected to move SURVIVED from a trailing position wider on the track after passing the 1500m. Jockey Riddell stated that SURVIVED overraced in the early stages and when USAINITY was racing three wide he elected to trail that runner and improve around the field in the middle stages. J. Riddell further added that SURVIVED was disappointing in its finishing effort when placed under pressure in the early part of the home straight. Stewards noted the explanation of J. Riddell regarding his tactics.

A post-race veterinary examination of FAUST revealed the gelding to have the thumps.

A post-race veterinary examination of CELTIC PRINCE revealed blood in the nearside nostril. Trainer B. Baker was advised that CELTIC PRINCE must gallop to the satisfaction of stewards over 1000m prior to racing again

Subject to any submissions from J. Cassidy, the rider of HAWKSPUR, a fine of $300 will be imposed for making a celebratory gesture prior to his mount passing the winning post.

Race 8: AAMI STRADBROKE H’CAP - 1400m

EPAULETTE (K. McEvoy) was slow to begin.

YOUR SONG (P. Robl) shifted in soon after the start , resulting in YOSEI (M. Payne) having to be steadied.

DECISION TIME (H. Bowman), STREAMA (B. Boss), SOLZHENITSYN (M. Rodd), FAMOUS SEAMUS (R. Wiggins) and BETTER THAN READY (C. Newitt) raced wide throughout.

Approaching the 400m SIZZLING (C. Munce) shifted out and bumped HAPPY ZERO (D. Dunn).

Near the 250m FONTELINA (J. Cassidy) was steadied when racing tight between DECISION TIME (H. Bowman) and STREAMA, which shifted in.

Approaching and passing the 200m HAPPY ZERO (D. Dunn) had to be steadied when SIZZLING (C. Munce) shifted out when not quite clear.

Approaching the 50m SPIRIT SONG (M. Walker) shifted out to obtain running to the outside of HOT SNITZEL (B. Avdulla) and in doing so YOUR SONG had to be steadied. At the same stage, STREAMA, which was laying in, shifted in taking YOSEI inwards. A short distance later HOT SNITZEL shifted out resulting in SPIRIT SONG becoming awkwardly placed at that horse's heels and shifting out resulting in both SPIRIT SONG and YOSEI having to be severely checked. In the circumstances stewards could not attribute blame for the incident to any particular rider. Stewards nevertheless reprimanded both M. Walker and G. Boss (STREAMA) and advised them both to exercise more care in similar circumstances. FONTELINA (J. Cassidy), which was trailing, was unable to be fully tested as a result of this incident.

FAMOUS SEAMUS cast its near fore plate in running.

When questioned as to the performance of BETTER THAN READY, trainer K. Schweida noted that the colt had pulled up distressed following the event. Mr Schweida was of the opinion that being obliged to race wide throughout the event may have contributed to the disappointing performance and undertook to advise stewards should anything come to light in the days subsequent that may have had a bearing on the performance. Mr Schweida advised that BETTER THAN READY would now be sent for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination of BETTER THAN READY revealed the colt to have a slower than average post-race recovery rate.

A post-race veterinary examination of YOUR SONG (P. Robl) revealed blood in the horse's offside nostril. Trainer A. Cummings will be advised that YOUR SONG must gallop to the satisfaction of stewards over 1000m prior to racing again.

Race 9: CROSER BRISBANE CUP - 2400m

Connections advised that MIDSUMMER SUN (C. Reith) would be ridden more quietly today. The horse was ridden accordingly.

SHAMARDASHING (C. Munce) and LIGHTINTHENITE (B. Boss) raced wide throughout.

Approaching the 600m ROTHERA (R. Wiggins) improved on to the heels of SAVANAH RUSH (M. Du Plessis) and had to be steadied.

VERDANT (M. Walker) lost its off fore plate in running.

Trainer S. Kavanagh reported following the event that MIDSUMMER SUN had pulled up shin sore in both forelegs.
