SUPPLEMENTARY

From Doomben Race Meeting 21 May 2016 - Race 8

An inquiry was conducted into the reasons for RAGEESE having to be checked near 100m when tightened for room between SIR BACHUS and SOLD FOR SONG. After taking evidence from riders B. Stewart (HAVASAY), App L. Dittman (SOLD FOR SONG) and K. McEvoy (RAGEESE) and viewing the relevant footage stewards were of the view that HAVASAY shifted out to improve taking SOLD FOR SONG out onto RAGEESE, which was weakening. B. Stewart was issued with a reprimand and advised to show greater care when shifting ground in future.

GENERAL

A complaint was lodged today by trainer J. Zielke against jockey D. Browne alleging that the rider hit his horse ROYAL TITHE on 2 occasions with the whip in the early stages of the home straight during the running of Race 7. The matter will be heard at a later date.

RACE 1: SINGAPORE AIRLINES 2YO FILLIES PLATE (QTIS 2YO) - 1200m

SAVANNA AMOUR – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced greenly in the early and middle stages.

SHE'S FAST – Slow to begin.

VENETIAN BEAUTY – Near the 300m had to be steadied from the heels of the tiring TREASURE GALLERY and altered course to the outside of that runner in order to improve.
TREASURE GALLERY – When weakening approaching the 200m shifted in abruptly and bumped heavily with SET WAIT. A post race veterinary examination of the filly, which weakened badly in the home straight, revealed it to be suffering from atrial fibrillation.

SET WAIT – Bumped heavily passing the 200m.

RARE OCCURRENCE – Raced wide without cover throughout.

REWARD FOR RICHES – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

Race 2: CARLTON DRAUGHT CLASS 6 PLATE - 1400m

I AM THE SCULPTOR – Slow to begin. Jockey J. Lloyd reported at scale that the gelding was disappointing in its efforts and he was of the belief that maybe the gelding had come to the end of its preparation.

SPUR LE JOUER – Jumped awkwardly and was then checked soon after the start when tightened for room. Jockey D. Browne reported at scale that the gelding never travelled comfortably at any stage and was disappointing.

LUCKY LUCRE – Hampered soon after the start.

KAZOOM – Jumped away awkwardly.

GAMBLESTOWN – Jockey Z. Purton reported that the gelding never travelled comfortably at any stage and was inclined to hang in for a major part of the race. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer J. Pride will be interviewed in relation to the horse's performance.

RACE 3: FKG GROUP SPEAR CHIEF (LISTED) H’CAP - 1500m

HOPFGARTEN – Bumped on jumping away. Jockey D. Browne reported at scale that the gelding could not quicken when placed under pressure soon after straightening, which he attributed to the 60.5 kilos today. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.

AMOVATIO – Soon after straightening was disappointed for a run between HOPFGARTEN and ALDINI.

RACE 4: A M GILES & CO CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS OPEN (LISTED) H'CAP - 1830m

TELEPATHIC – Jockey K. McEvoy reported that the mare did not feel comfortable in today's track conditions. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer C. Waller was advised that a veterinary clearance including the results of an ECG must be produced and the horse must trial satisfactorily prior to its next start.

FELTRE - When asked to explain the improved performance of the gelding trainer B. Smith explained that the horse has drawn bad barriers at its most recent starts and as a result has been forced to race wide. Mr Smith was confident of a forward showing as the horse had drawn barrier 3 today with the addition of blinkers.

RACE 5: WINNING EDGE PRESENTATIONS QTIS 3YO H'CAP - 1200m

TARZAN – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground. Raced fiercely in the early stages and near the 900m shifted out and made heavy contact with HARDLINE. Continued to overrace during the middle stages. Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.

HARDLINE – App L. Dittman reported that after receiving slight interference at the entrance to the straight the gelding did not respond to his riding from that point. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had sustained a small laceration to the near fore leg.

MOST IMPORTANT – Raced wide without cover throughout.

Following the running of Race 5 a request was made by trainer J. O'Shea to withdraw MOGADOR in Race 9 on the grounds that he believed the colt would be disadvantaged from its inside barrier draw in that event when the racing pattern thus far appeared conducive to horses racing wider on the track. Stewards denied the request.

RACE 6: CARLTON MID TATTERSALL'S CUP (GROUP 3) H’CAP - 2200m

No racing incidents.

RACE 7: WINTERGARDEN STAKES (QTIS 2YO) (Listed) - 1400m

Prior to correct weight stewards considered an objection lodged by J. Byrne the rider of BRULEE against CELLARMAN (H. Bowman) being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference near the 300m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the available footage stewards were of the view that CELLARMAN did shift in slightly to obtain a run to the inside of BALABINA and in doing so inconvenienced BRULEE. Stewards could not be satisfied that this interference, bearing in mind the manner in which both horses finished the race off, had a material affect on the placings and dismissed the objection declaring correct weight on the numbers semaphored.

SUGARPARMA – Trainer P. Robi advised the horse would be ridden more forward today if circumstances permit. The filly settled midfield and was briefly tightened for room near the 1000m. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

BALABINA – Inside the 100m when weakening shifted ground inwards and had to be restrained from the heels of CELLARMAN, when that runner shifted out slightly.

AQUAJEWEL – Approaching the 100m had to be checked when tightened for room between IRISH SEA and BALABINA, which shifted out and away from CELLARMAN. Jockey K. McEvoy (IRISH SEA), was cautioned and advised to stop riding and straighten his mounts sooner than he had on this occasion.

PEGAPUS – Raced wide throughout.

EMPHATICALLY – Raced wide throughout.

BRULEE - Lost a near hind plate in running.

RACE 8: SKY RACING TATTERSALL'S CLUB TIARA (GROUP 1) - 1400m

Prior to the 7.30 a.m. scratching deadline the Gai Waterhouse stable requested that ECHO GAL be scratched from its engagement in the Group 1 Club Tiara. Based on the reasons given stewards denied their request.

AZKADELLIA - Slow to begin.

ARTISTRY - Checked near the 1000m.

SCARLET BILLOWS – Near the 900m had to be checked when tightened for room.

BLUEBERRY HILL – Near the 900m made contact with another runner when overracing.

N. Hall the rider of AZKADELLIA pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that near the 700m he allowed his mount to shift out when not clear of ARTISTRY, resulting in ARTISTRY being tightened between that runner and ONEMOREZETA and having to be checked. Jockey Hall's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of thirteen (13) days to commence midnight 2 July 2016 and expire midnight 15 July 2016.

B. Shinn the rider of PRECIOUS GEM pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that he allowed his mount to shift out under pressure near the 200m when not fully clear of ECHO GAL. As a result ECHO GAL had to be checked to avoid that runner's heels. Jockey Shinn's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of twelve (12) days to commence midnight 2 July 2016 and expire midnight 14 July 2016.

RACE 9: W.J. HEALY STAKES (Group 3) – 1200m

The start of this race was delayed when TINA MELINA (J. Byrne) refused to load. TINA MELINA was subsequently withdrawn by order of stewards at 4.02 p.m. All monies invested on TINA MELINA were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 4.02 p.m.:-

13 cents in the dollar for the win - #2 (INTO THE RED)
11 cents in the dollar for the place of winner - #2 (INTO THE RED)
12 cents in the dollar for the 2nd place - #3 (SALUTER)
11 cents in the dollar for the 3rd place - #11 (MOGADOR)

Trainer T. Gollan was advised that TINA MELINA must trial satisfactorily prior to racing again.

BLACKBOARD SPECIAL – Tightened for room after travelling a short distance soon after the start.

ROCK ROYALTY – Held up in the early part of the home straight.

MANA MANU – Approaching the 200m had to be checked when tightened for room between DREAM CHOICE and ROCK ROYALTY, which had improved into a narrow run between MANA MANU and SHAMALIA. At the same stage SHAMALIA shifted out under pressure. K. McEvoy (SHAMALIA) was advised to stop riding and straighten his mounts sooner than he did. App J. Orman (ROCK ROYALTY) was advised when attempting to improve he must ensure that he has sufficient room to do so.

RACE 10: LANDFILL LOGISTICS DAYBREAK LOVER (QTIS 3YO) (Listed) – 1400m

FLIRTATIOUS FEMME dislodged its rider M. Cahill going out onto the track and galloped for a short distance before being recaptured. FLIRTATIOUS FEMME then paraded to the barriers, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to race.

SAGARONNE – Near the 200m was tightened for room between SOLD FOR SONG, which shifted in under pressure and SHOTACROSS THE BOW, which was taken out by FLIRTATIOUS FEMME, which in turn was taken out by TSARITSA. Both H. Bowman (TSARITSA) and App J. Orman (SOLD FOR SONG) were both issued with reprimands and advised to make a greater effort to stop and straighten their mounts.

INDARRA – Held up for clear running for a short distance near the 300m.

SALMANAZAR – Near the 300m shifted in and bumped BEAT STREET.

BEAT STREET – Became unbalanced when bumped heavily near the 300m.

DEVIL'S FIRE – Bumped heavily near the 300m by BEAT STREET.
