SALUTER – Late scratching at 1.10 pm for veterinary reasons.

ROCKY KING – Trainer T. Bourke was questioned regarding the horse's improved performance. He stated that he was disappointed with the rider's efforts at the horse's previous start on 13 August as the gelding tended to overrace when being restrained behind the leader. He added that ROCKY KING, prior to that start, had won a trial over 1270m at the Sunshine Coast in good fashion. The explanation was noted.

EL SASSO – M. Cahill was questioned regarding his riding of EL SASSO in the early stages. He stated that he was instructed by the Snowdens to attempt to get cover and he did that immediately after leaving the barriers. He added that EL SASSO, when being steadied, was inclined to overrace and after leaving the 1000m was inconvenienced by ELLAWISDOM, which shifted out to his inside, resulting in his mount being forced wider. He further added that he believed that in the early stages of the straight he felt his mount was better suited improving to the inside as he was of the opinion that today's racing suited horses racing between 2 and 6 wide, however, in his opinion EL SASSO only finished the race off moderately. Trainer Paul Snowdon, when contacted, confirmed the instructions and indicated that EL SASSO, when exposed early, pulls very hard and does not finish races off and the stable had given instructions to jockey Cahill to find cover. He added that the tempo of today's race, when it developed into a sprint home, did not suit the horse and added that he was satisfied with jockey Cahill's riding of the horse in the straight, particularly saving ground to the inside.

Race 7: PROGRAMMED PROPERTY SERVICES OPEN H’CAP – 1600M

AMEXED – Lost the off fore plate in running.

SPURTONIC – Finished a distant last. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer S. O'Dea advised stewards that the gelding would now be retired.

ALPHA BEAT – Connections advised that the horse would be ridden in a forward position, possibly in the lead, if circumstances permit. The horse led early and then settled behind the leaders passing the 1000m.

MR EPIC – Raced wide in the early stages until allowed to stride forward to take up the lead approaching the 1000m.

ANGEL DANCER – Raced wide without cover after leaving the 1000m. J. Lloyd reported at scale that his mount was bumped on several occasions leaving the 1000m by BODEGA NEGRA to his inside. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery.

DESERT GENERAL – Raced wide without cover in the early stages and was then ridden forward passing the 1000m and obtained the position outside the leader near the 900m.

RETUNE – As apprentice M. McGillivray was unable to claim any of his allowance, S. Fawke was substituted as rider. M. McGillivray was fined $100.
