Race 2: Canadian Club QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate - 1200M

Correct weight was delayed to allow J. Byrne the rider of fourth placegetter PAGE ONE to view the photo finish.  After viewing the photo finish and stewards confirming with the Judge it was established that the near fore hoof of TEMPETE ROUGE (J. Lloyd) was super imposed near the nose of PAGE ONE.  After hearing this explanation stewards were satisfied with the Judge's explanation and declared correct weight.

RAINY DAY WOMAN – Near the 900m had to be steadied to avoid heels.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the near fore fetlock.  Trainer C. Anderson indicated that the filly would now be sent for a spell.  In the event the filly continues its current preparation it will require a veterinary certificate prior to racing again.

ATOUCHMORE – Near the 700m when overracing improved to the inside of RAINY DAY WOMAN where there was insufficient room and had to be steadied.

TEMPETE ROUGE – Taken wider from the 600m and approaching the 500m was bumped heavily by C'MOME PADDYREILLY.  Raced greenly during the event.

C'MOME PADDYREILLY – Hung out from the 600m and made the home turn awkwardly. Trainer J. Pritchard was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding's racing manners.

PARK CHINOIS – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

DUNN GREAT – A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the off hind leg.  Trainer S. Kendrick was advised a veterinary certificate must be provided prior to the filly racing again.

App J. Oliver (RAINY DAY WOMAN) was fined $200.00 for failing to claim his full allowance.

Race 8: James Boag's Premium Class 4 H'Cap - 1200M

Trainer S. O'Dea was fined $200.00 for the late declaration of R. Fradd as the rider of KOLONGA.

On arrival at the barriers jockey J. Lloyd advised staff that he was of the view that MR CHA CHA had displaced its tongue tie on the way to the gates and as a result requested a tongue tie be fitted.  After the race it was confirmed that the tongue tie was not part of the horse's current racing gear.

IMPULSIVE SPIRIT – Slow to begin.

MR CHA CHA – Blundered on jumping away.

MARTINELLI – Stewards questioned App J. Oliver in the presence of jockeys' advocate S. Scriven regarding the riding tactics adopted on MARTINELLI after leaving the 800m. App Oliver stated that he had been instructed by trainer C. Munce to either lead or race outside the leader and making the home turn to ensure he was in a challenging position.  Mr Munce confirmed the instructions but expressed some disappointment with App Oliver's riding in the middle stages whereby he exerted undue pressure on MARTINELLI.  Stewards advised App Oliver that in their opinion his ride lacked judgement and although he was instructed to apply pressure to the leader AUSSIE JACK upon straightening, he would be expected to ride his mounts more patiently in the middle stages so as to give them the opportunity to finish the race off strongly.

Race 9: Jim Beam Class 1 H'Cap - 1300M

LAREBIL – Overraced in the early and middle stages.  Approaching the 1000m had to steady off heels.

RED MAGIC – Overraced in the early stages.  Near the 1100m had to steady away from heels.  B. Stewart (DANE JESTER) was reprimanded for this incident and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground.

MAYBE EVEN YOU – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted jockey B. Pengelly stated that after the mare jumped awkwardly and got its head up he immediately steadied from the wide barrier and attempted to ride the mare quietly.

BACKSLAPPER - Jockey L. Cassidy reported that in his opinion the gelding would be better suited racing with cover, which would enable it to finish the race off better than it had today.
