OUR RACKETEER – When asked to comment on the performance of the horse, jockey D. Browne indicated his mount did not begin with its customary speed and did not travel at any stage of the event. He added he was disappointed with the performance as he had trialled the horse and had been happy with that performance. Trainer Mr S. Kendrick indicated he was extremely disappointed with the performance and would have the horse undergo an endoscopic examination, have blood samples taken and would report the findings back to stewards. RACE 2: BRC CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL MAIDEN PLATE – 2225M THE GRINGO – After casting a plate during the week, underwent a veterinary examination today and was cleared to start. ZARABEEL – Connections advised that from the wide barrier gate it would be ridden in a more forward position. After being slow into stride was ridden in a rearward position. Had to be steadied after improving onto heels near the 1100m. SIR EARLSTOUN – Bounded at the start and lost ground. SIR RATHEWAY – Overraced in the early and middle stages and allowed to stride forward by its rider. When afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance, jockey J. Lloyd stated that the gelding had blinkers on for the first time today and as a result overraced and was inclined to hang out throughout. He attributed this to the gelding having blinkers on for the first time and recommended to connections to remove this gear for its next race start DUBBLEO’S LAD – Hung out badly in the straight and proved difficult to ride. RACE 3: GIDDY UP CLUB QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1300M On return to scale a protest was lodged by jockey R. Fradd, rider of the 2nd placegetter, MARK MY WORD, against TEMPETE ROUGE being declared the winner, alleging interference over the final stages. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the stewards’ patrol video, stewards were of the view that inside the 100m MARK MY WORD, which was hanging, initially shifted in, bumping the hind quarters of TEMPETE ROUGE, which then shifted out in the run to the finish line. Stewards were of the view that the initial contact was as a result MARK MY WORD shifting in, and bearing in mind the long head margin at the finish, they were unable to satisfy themselves that the result should be altered and therefore dismissed the protest and correct weight semaphored on the Judge’s placings. ROYAL ATOM – Began awkwardly. PERILOUS LOVE – Slow into stride. FAST SUN – Bumped on straightening. Had to be steadied near the 300m whilst weakening to avoid the heels of ROCKSAY, which shifted in marginally. G. Colless, rider of ROCKSAY, was reprimanded. SON OF JUSTICE – Hung out on the bends. PLAN RED – Began awkwardly. Jockey R. Fradd explained that his mount, which can be fractious in the stalls, was again today standing awkwardly when the gates were released. He said his intention had been to ride in a forward position however tried to obtain cover but because of the way it began, he was reluctant to ride it forward as the horse can overrace. Jockey Fradd added that after being crossed with the slow tempo, he ended up racing further back in the field than anticipated. BEAT STREET – Hung out badly on the home turn and then in the straight was unable to be fully tested due to it hanging. DEVIL’S FIRE – Inconvenienced near the 250m. LEGAL COUNSEL – Jockey J.
