Carey RACE 1: SKY THOROUGHGRED CENTRAL MAIDEN PLATE - 2237M ALBERT PERCHOOKIE – Stood flatfooted at the start and lost significant ground. Trainer K. Devine was advised that the horse must compete in an official barrier trial prior to racing again. ZARABEEL – Pulled hard in the middle stages and when being restrained near the 1000m threw its head in the air and lost ground. SIR RATHEWAY – Shifted out under pressure over the final 250m. After the winning post jockey G. Colless was dislodged. The horse was recaptured and jockey Colless was able to weigh in for second placing. RACE 2: NEW YEARS RACEDAY QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M CINZIA – As jockey B. Pengelly was to be overweight, jockey J. Lloyd was substituted as the rider of the horse. Jockey Pengelly was fined $200. Jumped away awkwardly. Raced greenly in the early stages and was inclined to shift out. ANDRUM – Jumped away awkwardly. ARCHIE BOY – Trainer C. Munce indicated that the colt will now be sent for a spell. RACE 3: HAMILTON HOTEL F&M CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1000M LOVE A ROSE – Overraced in the early and middle stages and then had difficulty securing clear running in the home straight until approaching the 200m. A post race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the near fore fetlock and off fore pastern. Trainer K. Schweida was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to its next race start. DAVE’S VALOR – Trainer S. Lawlor was questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of the horse today as compared to its last start at Murwillumbah on 16 December. Miss Lawlor explained that DAVE’S VALOUR was not suited when it was unable to lead in that race and does not race well when racing inside of horses in the home straight. She added that the filly had always raced well when able to lead and dictate the tempo of the race. A post race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the off foreleg and a laceration to the near fore fetlock and off fore pastern. Miss Lawlor indicated that DAVE’S VALOUR will now be sent for a spell. RACE 4: GA SEASON PASS CG&E CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1000M KAPGUN – Attempted to shift out from the heels of SI SI SEQUALO and bumped THE MECHANIC passing the 800m. THE MECHANIC – Bumped passing the 800m. KAPSTAR – Restrained from heels near the 700m. Over the final stages had to be eased when tightened for room. COURTZA KING – Restrained from heels near the 700m and shifted out and bumped another runner. ZUMIKON – Bumped by COURTZA KING approaching the 600m. OLD TRIESTE – Raced 3 wide without cover. RACE 5: GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1000M CAPTAIN TANGO – Had difficulty securing clear running in the home straight until approaching the 100m. RACE 6: WWW.BRC.COM.AU MAIDEN PLATE - 1400M GRAND WHISPER – Severely hampered at the start. LUNA FIORE – Severely hampered at the start. EUNGAI – Severely hampered at the start. RACE 7: BRC MEMBERSHIPS CLASS 3 PLATE - 1600M KULABA – Trainer S. Laxon was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for the horse by the prescribed time. ZAPATA FALLS – Had to be steadied from heels at the 1300m. Jockey J. Byrne, rider of LADY NO MORE, was advised to provide greater clearance to his fellow riders in similar circumstances. LOVE TO LIVE – Raced very fiercely in the early stages and as a result was allowed to stride forward from the 1000m to obtain the lead near the 700m. REALLY REILLY - Was held up for clear running in the home straight until approaching the 200m. LADY NO MORE – Had difficulty securing clear running in the home straight and as a result went to the line not fully tested by its rider. PRINCESS IS READY – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. EL GRECO – When asked to explain the disappointing performance, jockey D. Browne stated that rather than be caught wide in the early stages he elected to restrain towards the rear of the field and when the tempo was slow in the middle stages, in his opinion, that did not suit the gelding, however over the final 200m he was disappointed in its finishing effort. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. RACE 8: GIDDY UP CLUB BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1200M Apprentice M. Murphy, rider of SMOOTH TALKER, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that approaching the 1100m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of NAKANAI, which was taken in on to TISANI TOMSO and MOMENT OF IMPACT, resulting in MOMENT OF IMPACT and TISANI TOMSO having to be checked. Apprentice Murphy was suspended from riding in races for a period of 8 days, to commence at midnight, 1 January and to expire at midnight, 9 January 2017.
