RACE 1: SKY THOROUGHGRED CENTRAL MAIDEN PLATE - 2237M

RACE 2: NEW YEARS RACEDAY QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

CINZIA – As jockey B. Pengelly was to be overweight, jockey J. Lloyd was substituted as the rider of the horse. Jockey Pengelly was fined $200.  Jumped away awkwardly. Raced greenly in the early stages and was inclined to shift out.

ANDRUM – Jumped away awkwardly.

ARCHIE BOY – Trainer C. Munce indicated that the colt will now be sent for a spell.

RACE 3:  HAMILTON HOTEL F&M CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1000M

LOVE A ROSE – Overraced in the early and middle stages and then had difficulty securing clear running in the home straight until approaching the 200m.  A post race veterinary examination  revealed a laceration to the near fore fetlock and off fore pastern.  Trainer K. Schweida was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to its next race start.

DAVE’S VALOR – Trainer S. Lawlor was questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of the horse today as compared to its last start at Murwillumbah on 16 December.   Miss Lawlor explained that DAVE’S VALOUR was not suited when it was unable to lead in that race and does not race well when racing inside of horses in the home straight. She added that the filly had always raced well when able to lead and dictate the tempo of the race.  A post race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the off foreleg and a laceration to the near fore fetlock and off fore pastern.  Miss Lawlor indicated that DAVE’S VALOUR will now be sent for a spell.

REALLY REILLY -  Was held up for clear running in the home straight until approaching the 200m.

LADY NO MORE – Had difficulty securing clear running in the home straight and as a result went to the line not fully tested by its rider.

PRINCESS IS READY – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

EL GRECO – When asked to explain the disappointing performance, jockey D. Browne stated that rather than be caught wide in the early stages he elected to restrain towards the rear of the field and when the tempo was slow in the middle stages, in his opinion,  that did not suit the gelding, however over the final 200m he was disappointed in its finishing effort.     A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

RACE 8: GIDDY UP CLUB BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1200M

Apprentice M. Murphy, rider of SMOOTH TALKER, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that approaching the 1100m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of NAKANAI, which was taken in on to TISANI TOMSO and MOMENT OF IMPACT, resulting in MOMENT OF IMPACT and TISANI TOMSO having to be checked.
