KING RED – Shifted ground under pressure in the straight.

LIEDER – Bumped on jumping.

SLALOM – Slow to begin.

VAULTING AMBITION – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide without cover. L. Cassidy explained that he had a wide run throughout the event and when he asked the gelding for an effort in the home straight it did not pick up as expected and in his opinion may not have handled today’s going. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

PROLIFIC BELLE – Jumped out at the start and bumped another runner. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be striding short in both forelegs following the event.

Race 5: STAV, ABBY & MATT WITH OSHER'S OPEN H'CAP – 1200M

DIVINE SERVICE – Bumped shortly after the start.

DAPH ‘N’ ALF – J. Byrne was questioned regarding the tactics he adopted on the gelding. He explained that he had no specific instructions and after jumping well from his wide alley he elected to steady his mount to find cover as he believed he did not have the pace to race in a handy position. He added that the gelding laid out throughout the event and did not handle the track conditions today.

DREAM FINNISH – Underwent a veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and passed fit to start. Hampered shortly after the start when tightened for room between runners.

Race 8: CARLTON MID CLASS 6 H'CAP – 1400M

DEE NINE ELLE – J. Byrne was reprimanded for not providing full clearance to runners to his inside when shifting in approaching the 1200m. J. Byrne was questioned regarding the horse’ performance. He stated that after beginning well his intentions were always to find cover but race in a handy position and he was of the opinion that the tempo was far too quick in the early stages, which may have had an effect on the mare’s finishing performance. He added that he had ridden the mare in work leading up to today’s event and he had expected her to perform creditably. He further added that DEE NINE ELLE appreciates leading without being pressured and may not have handled today’s track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings apart from a laceration to the near hind pastern. A swab sample was taken from the horse.

BRAZEN MOSS – Raced wide without cover.

DECONSTRUCTED – Hampered when tightened for room shortly after the start.

BOUND FOR LOVE – Hampered when tightened for room shortly after the start. Bumped on the hind quarters and turned inwards approaching the 1200m. Stewards questioned J. Lloyd regarding the performance of the horse, which drifted noticeably in the betting, and the reason for his easing of the mare in the straight. J. Lloyd stated that the mare sweated up badly prior to the start and after receiving a bump soon after the start the mare was bumped again on the hind quarters and turned inwards and then shortly after had to be steadied away from heels approaching the 1200m. He added that from near the 1200m he was forced to race wide without cover and when he attempted to obtain cover at the rear of the field he was prevented from doing so by SILENTO improving to his inside. He further stated that the mare then, near the 700m, appeared not to be handling the track conditions today and in his opinion was racing on the worst section of the track and that he attempted to place some pressure on the mare approaching the home turn, however the mare lost ground quickly. Trainer T. Edmonds was also questioned regarding the performance of BOUND FOR LOVE. He stated that the jockey had reported that the mare had been bumped shortly after the start, which may have affected her performance. He added that the mare had pleased him leading up to today’s event and had been working well since its last win and he could not offer any excuse. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings apart from a laceration inside the off fore cannon. Mr Edmonds was advised that if there was anything amiss with the mare on return to his stables he should inform stewards, however if nothing significant comes to light the mare would be required to trial and a veterinary clearance will have to be provided prior to the horse’s next start. A swab sample was taken from the horse.

APPLE THIEF – As G. Colless was to be overweight, G. Goold was substituted as rider. G. Colless was fined $200. The veterinary surgeon reported that he was concerned with the horse’s action on leaving the enclosure, however on arrival at the barriers he passed the gelding fit to race. Had to be steadied away from heels near the 1300m.

PASSIONFLOWER – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.

MERCURIAN – Shifted in and brushed the running rail approaching the home turn when attempting a run where there was insufficient room.

SILENTO – Hampered when tightened for room shortly after the start.
