McMahon did not apply for a stay when lodging his appeal, he was unable to fulfil the engagement on DARK ELEMENT due to having commenced a term of suspension and was subsequently replaced by P. Hammersley. As apprentice R. Williams was ill, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Race 1: CHANNEL 7 BRISBANE RACING CARNIVAL 2017 C,G&E MAIDEN PLATE – 1400M DARK ELEMENT – Approaching the 100m, when tightened for room, was accidentally struck over the head by the whip of jockey L. Cassidy (KUTTAMURRA AL). KUTTAMURRA AL – Held up near the 300m and then altered course to obtain clear running. MONACO SNOB – Slow to begin. REAL GANADOR – Jumped away awkwardly and was bumped shortly after the start by another runner. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. RIPPIN ‘N’ TEARIN – J. Orman was reprimanded for using the whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. SYD – Trainer G. Taylor reported that in his opinion the gelding did not handle the track conditions today and advised of his intention to add blinkers to the horse’s gear at its next start. Race 2: JAMES BOAG’S PREMIUM DOOMBEN 10,000 DAY F&M MAIDEN PLATE – 1400M CHAMPAGNE CHARLEE – G. Colless reported at scale that his mount was inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the straight. G. Colless was reprimanded for using the whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. IRISH VICE – Jumped away awkwardly. When questioned, J. Lloyd stated that his instructions were to have the filly positioned in the first three, however after beginning awkwardly he was further back in the field than intended. He added that he was then forced to race three wide without cover, however the filly was under pressure from the 600m and did not respond to his riding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings and a swab sample was taken. KYLIE’S KISSES – Slow to begin. Race 3: NOVOTEL BRISBANE AIRPORT QTIS 3YO H'CAP – 2237M The front barrier gates of TISANI GREY were slow to open. This was brought to the attention of the starter. ISN’T SHE ELEGANT – Pulled hard in the middle stages. TISANI GREY – Slow to begin. FAIRY DANCER – Bumped on jumping. FLIGHT PRINCE – Jumped awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have mild heat stress. SAINT ELEMENT – Checked shortly after the start when tightened for room. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have mild heat stress. R. Stewart was fined $200 for using the whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. Race 4: HARDY BROTHERS DOOMBEN CUP DAY F&M CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1200M OVERSTATEMENT – Slow to begin. Blundered after leaving the 1000m. Finished a distant last. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. ROUND MOUNTAIN GEM – The veterinary surgeon reported that the mare sustained a small speedy cut to the off hind leg. Stewards inspected the section of the track from the 1000m to the 800m and were satisfied that it was suitable for racing, however were concerned with the deterioration of the track surface at that section and downgraded it to a HEAVY 8 at 2:12 pm. Race 5: BRC MEMBERSHIP QTIS 2YO H'CAP – 1000M ZUKAZ – Raced wide without cover. SIR CASS – Slow to begin. LAURA’S STAR – Slow to begin. Had to steady off heels near the 600m. AITHNE – Raced wide without cover. ASTROBABY – R. Stewart dropped his whip near the 400m. R. Stewart reported at scale that his mount failed to handle the track conditions today. Race 6: DARLEY KINGSFORD-SMITH CUP CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1000M Following a call from trainer L. Gough that he was concerned with the demeanour of SECRET MO due to the demolition of several buildings in the nearby vicinity of his stables yesterday, he had his veterinary surgeon examine the colt after scratching time this morning. Mr Gough advised that he would further monitor the horse during the morning. Stewards confirmed with Mr Gough’s veterinary practitioner that he was satisfied the colt was clinically fine. The horse will be further examined by the race day veterinarian after its arrival on course. The horse underwent a veterinary examination after arriving on course and was passed fit to run. SECRET MO – Raced three wide without cover. AMERICAN HERO – Raced four wide without cover. ALKIPPE – Finished a distant last. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Race 7: TREASURY BRISBANE LADIES OAKS DAY C,G&E CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1200M The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to consider whether COBRA QUICK should be declared a non-runner. ALL SUMMER LONG – Late scratching at 2:32 pm due to the track downgrade. GO THE GANTRY – Late scratching at 2:10 pm on veterinary advice. ZENDAYE – Slow to begin. REVALDOR – Raced in restricted room after leaving the 1000m. WHO’S YOUR DADDY – Raced in restricted room after leaving the 1000m. HONOUR’N’STRENGTH – Late scratching at 3:22 pm due to the track downgrade. COBRA QUICK – Restless in the barriers, reared as the gates opened and lost considerable ground. Race 8: UBET STRADBROKE DAY BENCHMARK 70 H'CAP – 1500M HARADIFY – Bumped on jumping. HONEY HOLT – Jumped awkwardly. ALL THAT IS – Raced wide without cover. AWAKENINGS – Had to be continually restrained to avoid heels approaching the 1000m. Brushed by another runner approaching the finishing line. ON DEMAND – Raced wide without cover. TELMEMORE – Slow to begin. LET ME SAY THIS – Had to steady when briefly tightened for room approaching the 200m. GROBBELAAR – Slow to begin. Shifted in under pressure approaching the finishing line and brushed another runner. Apprentice M. Murphy was fined $200 for using the whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m.
