Race 1: PRICELINE PHARMACY ASCOT QTIS 2YO H'CAP – 1300M
M. Du Plessis, the rider of 4th placegetter KIM ALICIA, exercised his right to view the stewards’ patrol footage to ascertain whether he had grounds on which to lodge an objection against SIZZLING BABE (3rd) and MAGIC BEANS (1st) in the home straight. Stewards also reviewed the footage before being satisfied and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.
LESHRAC – R. Fradd reported at scale that his mount travelled well in the lead and did not quicken as expected when placed under pressure in the home straight.
KIM ALICIA – Bumped heavily and forced wider over the final stages.
MAGIC BEANS – Shifted out over the final stages.
SIZZLING BABE – Began awkwardly. Held up in the early part of the home straight and near the 300m was disappointed for run to the inside of LESHRAC and then had to alter course wider to improve and near the 100m attempted a narrow run between MAGIC BEANS and KIM ALICIA and soon afterwards made contact with the hind quarters of KIM ALICIA. Further hampered over the final stages by MAGIC BEANS, which shifted out under pressure. A. Allen, the rider of MAGIC BEANS, was cautioned and advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in the future.
Race 2: PRICELINE PHARMACY ASCOT CLASS 2 PLATE – 1300M
AJANI – Bumped on jumping. Raced three wide without cover throughout.
BEAT THE BEAST – Reared slightly as the start was effected and lost considerable ground.
BEZZINA – Tightened for room between runners on jumping.
DAISY’S APART – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start being effected.
SORNJA – Bumped on jumping.
BELLE ROC – Had to be steadied approaching the 200m when awkwardly placed at the heels of ERRINGHI SPRING, which shifted in.
ZOUCARA – After beginning moderately was restrained to a rearward position to obtain a position closer to the running rail.
EXCELEBRAZIONE – Commenced to overrace after passing the 900m and got its head up on a number of occasions.
MYSTIC EYES – Raced three wide in the early stages before being allowed to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader passing the 800m. T. Harrison reported that her mount is best suited when able to lead and control the tempo of the race and today it was unable to do this and hung in badly in the straight and proved difficult to ride and weakened.
ELLA DIVINE – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
Race 3: MIDORI OPEN H'CAP – 1400M
MALVERN ESTATE – Began awkwardly, blundered and then shifted in.
OINK – After being caught wide in the early stages rider J. Orman attempted to restrain to obtain cover but was unable to do so, and after passing the 1100m the gelding was allowed to stride forward to obtain the position outside the leader passing the 1000m.
BRAINS – Hampered between runners on jumping.
ECKER ROAD – Slow to begin.
Race 4: PRICELINE PHARMACY ASCOT CLASS 4 PLATE – 2200M
FIGHTING TEO – Bumped on jumping. Apprentice B. Nothdurft dropped his whip near the 1200m. Had to steady from the heels of the tiring SHE’S RELIABLE near the 800m and made heavy contact with RED PHANTOM.
GLEN ORD – Bumped on jumping. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
CORMAC – Underwent a veterinary examination after being fractious in the float en route to the course and was passed fit to start. A further veterinary examination prior to the race also passed the gelding fit to start.
RED PHANTOM – Bumped on jumping.
WU GOK – After being caught three wide without cover in the early stages the gelding was allowed to stride forward before obtaining the lead approaching the 1600m.
MISS SARA – Stewards questioned apprentice C. Gallagher regarding the reaon for him leaving a trailing position behind WU GOK when the tempo of the race was reasonable and shifting out around the heels of KUBIS to a three wide position near the 1200m and allowing his mount to stride forward to race outside WU GOK. Apprentice Gallagher stated that he has ridden the horse consistently in the past and he was instructed to apply pressure to the leaders from the 800m. He added that the filly weakened in the home straight and in his view has come to the end of its current preparation. Trainer L. Ross confirmed the instructions, adding that the filly has been disappointing previously on this track. He agreed with apprentice Gallagher’s assessment that the filly had come to the end of its preparation and advised that it would now be his recommendation that the filly be sent for a spell.
TEODORA – Began awkwardly. Held up when awkwardly placed at the heels of SHE’S RELIABLE between the 600m and the 500m and then was unable to improve when awkwardly placed at the heels of PERFECT WITNESS.
SHE’S RELIABLE – Weakened badly from the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Subsequently trainer K. Schweida reported that upon return to the stable the horse underwent an endoscopic examination with a clear result, however the veterinary surgeon explained that the mare had the thumps.
Race 5: PADDYFEST 2019 NO METRO WINS H'CAP – 1000M
As a stablehand required medical attention by the paramedics after sustaining an injury in the race day stalls, the start times of Races 5 and 6 were rescheduled to 3:15 pm and 3:45 pm respectively.
Trainer G. Duncan was fined $200 for failing to declare riders for TRUCULENT (Race 5 – J. Guthmann-Chester), LORD BARRINGTON (Race 8 – B. Nothdurft) and RISING STOCK (Race 9 – M. McGillivray) by the prescribed time.
THE MECHANIC – Began awkwardly. Had to be steadied near the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in both front feet. Trainer D. Vandyke was advised that the gelding will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
BERAHT – Had to be steadied near the 400m.
REDEX – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Hung in near the 500m and momentarily placed CAPITAL CONNECTION in restricted room.
TRUCULENT – Raced three wide with cover. Hung in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
CAPITAL CONNECTION – Began awkwardly and bumped with ONE STRYKE. Momentarily placed in restricted room near the 500m.
ONE STRYKE – Bumped on jumping.
ZOUZOUKAKIA – Raced three wide with cover.
DOMINANT CROWN – Hampered between runners shortly after the start. Held up and unable to secure clear running in the early part of the home straight and near the 200m became awkward at the heels of THE MECHANIC. Disappointed for clear running over the final stages.
Race 6: PRICELINE PHARMACY ASCOT QTIS 3YO H'CAP – 1600M
Trainer L. Birchley was fined $100 for failing to declare B. Stewart as the rider of PEPPI LA FEW by the prescribed time.
ALPINE DANCER – Began awkwardly. Overraced in the early stages. Raced three wide with cover.
BOOMTOWN LASS – Bumped shortly after the start. Held up rounding the home turn.
DAWSON DIVA – Became awkward at the heels of YAMAZAKI near the 800m and was obliged to shift out. Bumped with YAMAZAKI near the 200m.
PEPPI LA FEW – The veterinary surgeon reported that the gelding was exhibiting heat stress post-race.
SPENDING MY TIME – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
MULLAGHMORE – Raced four wide without cover in the early stages before obtaining a position three wide with cover passing the 800m.
TATCEE – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
YAMAZAKI – Put in an awkward stride near the 800m and lost ground. Bumped with DAWSON DIVA near the 200m, became unbalanced and lost some ground.
FAT MAX – Apprentice B. Nothdurft reported at scale that in his view his mount did not run out a strong 1200m.
LOVE STRUCK – After being caught wide in the early stages the gelding was allowed to stride forward and obtain a position one wide with cover passing the 1000m.
THE GREAT BOOMBINO – Began awkwardly.
ROCKNAVAR – Had to be eased when tightened for room between DAWSON DIVA and ALPINE DANCER near the 800m.
TATALINA – Slow to begin.
STEELZ TIME – Inconvenienced near the 150m.
Race 7: TAB CLASS 6 PLATE – 1600M
ENDLESS DAYS – Shifted wider on the track by LE JUGE passing the 800m when that runner shifted out to improve.
MR BELLAGIO – Hampered on jumping. Bumped on the hind quarters by RECKLESS CHOICE after travelling a short distance and became unbalanced. Raced three wide without cover throughout. Lost the near fore plate in running.
DEEP IMAGE – When questioned, J. Lloyd explained that DEEP IMAGE went keenly in the early stages, which had a bearing on its ability to finish the race off strongly. He added that he is of the opinion that DEEP IMAGE is better suited to races of a lesser distance than that of today’s event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
HALLELUJAH BOY – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
MAGSTOCK – Tightened for room on jumping. Had difficulty securing clear running in the early part of the home straight.
RECKLESS CHOICE – Hampered on jumping.
SURPRISE BULLET – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
Race 8: MIDORI CLASS 6 PLATE – 1200M
DRUMBEAT’S CHOICE – Slow to begin. Commenced to overrace whilst racing in a rearward position when the pace slackened after passing the 800m, became awkwardly placed at the heels of MANAYA and had to shift out abruptly.
KOOL VINNIE – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
QUICK KETCH – Blundered on jumping, almost dislodging its rider. Had to be restrained from the heels of BACCARAT BABY when the pace slackened passing the 900m.
MANAYA – Began awkwardly. Had to be checked from the heels of RIVER RACER when overracing passing the 900m. Had to be restrained approaching and rounding the home turn when awkwardly placed at the heels of RIVER RACER.
RIVER RACER – Got its head up and refused to settle after passing the 900m when being restrained in a trailing position.
Race 9: WWW.BRC.COM.AU BENCHMARK 75 H'CAP – 1400M
CORNROW – Improved onto the heels of ALASSAK near the 600m and shifted out, resulting in FRANCISCA being taken wider.
HONOUR’N’STRENGTH – Had to be checked near the 1000m as a result of interference to other runners near the 1100m.
BARACHIEL – Severely checked when tightened for room near the 1100m. At a subsequent inquiry it was established that CRYSTAL AMOR, after being crossed by CORNROW near the 1200m, began to race very fiercely and despite the efforts of its rider to restrain that horse it continued to improve to the inside of CORNROW where there was insufficient room, which resulted in CORAL BAY, near the 1100m, being taken across the rightful running of BARACHIEL and that runner being checked. As stewards were of the view that the racing manners of CRYSTAL AMOR were a major contributor to this incident, no further action was taken. Had to be checked severely after improving onto the heels of CORAL BAY passing the 200m and then shifted out and made contact with ROYAL ATOM.
PRESSWAY – Lost the off fore plate in running.
RISING STOCK – Hung in near the 200m and became awkward at the heels of PRESSWAY, which shifted out under pressure.
ROYAL ATOM – Slow to begin. Had to be checked near the 1000m as a result of interference to other runners near the 1100m. Bumped inside the 200m.
CHAMP ELECT – Raced three wide with cover throughout.
CRYSTAL AMOR – Bumped on jumping. Had to be checked near the 100m when awkwardly placed at the heels of RISING STOCK when that runner lost ground. The veterinary surgeon reported that the mare had been galloped on on the near foreleg, had pain over the pelvis and muscle swelling on the offside rump and was lame behind. Trainer R. Heathcote was advised that the mare will require a veterinary clearance prior to its next start.
BENFICA PRINCESS – Slow into stride. Had to be checked near the 1000m as a result of interference to other runners near the 1100m.
FRANCISCA – Began awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with CRYSTAL AMOR. Raced three wide without cover throughout.
SPRING CREEK – Began awkwardly and was hampered shortly after the start.
ROTHABYE – Had to be checked near the 1000m as a result of interference to other runners near the 1100m.
