QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT BRISBANE RACING CLUB EAGLE FARM – WEDNESDAY 1 MAY 2019 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD 4 RAIL – 10MPENETROMETER – 4.32 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – N. ChallenStarter – P. Cousins, S. ListerStewards Secretary – W. Ostrofski GENERAL As P. Hammersley was not riding due to illness, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Race 1: WWW.BRC.COM.AU MAIDEN H'CAP – 1600M MUFASTA – Tightened on jumping. Settled in a trailing position one wide in the early stages and after passing the 1200m, when the pace steadied, commenced to overrace and was shifted wider on the track to avoid heels and then continued to overrace for a considerable distance thereafter. Bumped on the hind quarters approaching the 800m. LEBRON – Tightened on jumping. Overraced in the early stages. Raced keenly due to the slow tempo passing the 800m and had to be restrained from heels. CONSTRUE – Unable to obtain cover passing the 1200m due to the slow speed and when being restrained got its head up for a short distance before obtaining cover after passing the 900m. When asked to explain the performance, jockey B. Shinn stated that the filly raced keenly in the early stages due to the slow tempo which in his opinion may have been to its disadvantage, and when asked to finish the race off, let down for a short distance, however may have peaked on its run prior to the line. He added that in his opinion the filly, which was first up today, would benefit from the run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. TANTALUS – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages. Due to the slow tempo approaching the 800m, was inclined to lay out when being restrained and had to be steadied away from heels and in doing so bumped MUFASTA on the hind quarters. AUSFALL – Had to steady away from heels passing the 1100m. Race 2: DOOMBEN 10,000 DAY 11TH MAY QTIS 3YO H'CAP – 2225M PARTNERSHIP – J. Taylor was fined $200 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. In determining penalty, stewards took into account the totality of jockey Taylor’s whip use. CRAIGLEA VIRTUE – Faltered passing the 300m and was retired from the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have sustained an injury to the near fore sesamoid and was treated by the on-course veterinarian and bandaged prior to leaving the track. Trainer K. Johnston was advised that the filly will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. SEARING SPEED – Laid out slightly under pressure in the home straight. M. Cahill was fined $300 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. Race 3: MEMBERSHIPS AT BRC CLASS 3 H'CAP – 2225M GUN BOLT – Raced wide rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. LOOKIN’ AT YOU – Shifted three wide to improve passing the 800m and raced three wide with cover from that point onwards. GOLDEN VALLEY – After being caught wide passing the 1800m, was allowed to stride forward to obtain the position outside the leader passing the 1600m. FENCOURT – Disappointed for run approaching the 300m and had to alter course to the outside to obtain clear running. SLAUGHTER BAY – Shifted three wide to improve passing the 800m. ANGELA’S BEAUTY – Had to be steadied passing the winning post on the first occasion when cramped for room between runners. WENDOUREE RED – Had to be steadied passing the winning post on the first occasion when awkwardly placed inside the heels of GUN BOLT. Both N. Day and B. Shinn, the rider of GUN BOLT, were advised to show greater care when their mounts are racing in restricted room. Race 4: ARTISAN CARNIVAL HIGH TEA MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M BENETEAU BUOY – Began awkwardly. Held up from the 400m until approaching the 200m. ELEMENTAE – Raced keenly when positioned outside the leader in the early and middle stages. ADDOCARR – Slow into stride. BULLET SPEED – Bumped on jumping. KOOKY – Held up from the 400m until approaching the 250m. MISAKA – Began awkwardly and was bumped shortly after. Raced three wide without cover throughout. ZOULOU DANCER – Bumped on jumping. Raced three wide without cover throughout. SHINING BLUE – Slow into stride. LADY CORDAY – Slow into stride. Race 5: HAMILTON HOTEL F&M BENCHMARK 65 H'CAP – 1300M KEMSREY – Bumped on jumping. Had some difficulty securing clear running between the 300m and the 200m. PORTUGUESE TART – Slow to begin. LADY I AM – Had to be steadied away from heels when racing keenly passing the 1200m. PONY POWER – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Raced keenly in the position outside the leader in the early stages. TEQUILA BOOM – Began awkwardly. Race 6: DOOMBEN CUP DAY 18TH MAY C,G&E BENCHMARK 65 H'CAP – 1300M TOTALLY CHARMED – Began awkwardly. PAPER TRADE – Began awkwardly. LIKE A RULER – After beginning from a wide barrier was restrained to a rearward position to obtain a position closer to the rail. MR STORM – Bumped the hind quarters of BEIDI approaching the winning post. BEIDI – Became unbalanced when bumped on the hind quarters by MR STORM approaching the winning post. HARDLY TOUCHED – Raced three wide throughout. COASTAL PRINCE – Began awkwardly and then was tightened between runners. TYCOON FLUTTER – After being caught wide in the early stages was restrained to the rear of the field after passing the 1000m to obtain a position closer to the rail. Race 7: JIM BEAM BLACK CLASS 3 PLATE – 1200M The start of this race was delayed to hold for an interstate event. JOHNNY WHITESOX – Began awkwardly and made contact with the barrier partition. Raced three wide without cover throughout. TISANI MAGIC – After beginning from a wide barrier and being caught wide, was allowed to stride forward to obtain the position outside the leader passing the 800m. DISSOLUTION – Slow into stride and then had to be steadied when cramped for room shortly after the start. Had to alter course on a number of occasions between the 300m and the 100m to secure clear running. DON’T YOU KNOW HIM – When asked to comment on the horse’s performance, B. Shinn explained that the gelding travelled reasonably well throughout in a favourable position and when asked for an effort in the home straight proved disappointing. Trainer T. Gollan advised that in light of today’s performance he will consider starting the gelding in races of easier class than that of today’s event and have it ridden in a more positive manner. SOFIE’S GOLD CLASS – Rider M. Cahill was accidentally struck by the whip of J. Orman (TARDIS) passing the 150m. TARDIS – Bumped on jumping. PIZONIE – Began awkwardly and shifted out. I’M SO SWEET – Slow to begin and then was checked when tightened for room between TARDIS and SOFIE’S GOLD CLASS and lost ground. SUNDARBANS – Connections advised that from the wide barrier it would be the intention to have the filly ridden in the second half of the field. After beginning awkwardly, the horse raced worse than midfield in a three wide position with cover throughout. Race 8: TAB CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1600M The start of this race was delayed significantly when SURPRISE BULLET proved very difficult to load. SURPRISE BULLET – Trainer B. Lockwood advised that the gelding would be ridden in a forward position if circumstances permit. Proved very difficult to load. Trainer B. Lockwood was advised that the gelding would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again. After being moderately away from the wide barrier the horse raced in a rearward position. Inclined to lay in when attempting to shift wider on the track passing the 300m and became awkwardly placed at the heels of SAWTELL. B. Stewart was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. DIAMONDS ARE – Trainer M. Costa advised that from the good barrier it would be the intention to have the gelding ridden in a forward position. Jockey M. McGillivray explained that it was his intention to ride the gelding forward as instructed but was unable to muster sufficient speed to do so and after being crossed by runners drawn to his outside, the gelding settled further back than he would have preferred. He added that when placed under pressure after passing the 600m the gelding failed to respond and proved disappointing. LADY BING – Began awkwardly and shifted out. After racing in a prominent positon prior to the home turn the mare commenced to weaken passing the 400m and finished a distant last. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. TOAN THANG – Slow to begin. ELRAAZY – After being caught wide in the early stages the mare was ridden forward to obtain the position outside the leader passing the 800m. Bumped by DOWNLOADING passing the 100m. BERNIE’S TIGER – Raced keenly in the early stages and was caught three wide in a forward position with cover throughout. Apprentice J. Murphy advised that he had recommended to connections that the blinkers be removed for the gelding’s next start. CURRUMBIN CRAFT – Laid in in the early part of the home straight. Bumped with SAWTELL passing the 400m when attempting to shift out to obtain clear running. HUSSON’S PRIDE – Began awkwardly. Slightly inconvenienced passing the 100m. SAWTELL – Bumped by CURRUMBIN CRAFT passing the 400m. Inclined to lay in passing the 300m despite the efforts of its rider. DOWNLOADING – Laid out under pressure approaching the 100m, making heavy contact with ELRAAZY and inconveniencing HUSSON’S PRIDE, which was racing to the outside of ELRAAZY.
