CELLARMAID – Slow to begin and was then shifted across heels in the early stages to obtain a position at the rear of the field. ANGELS OF FENWAY – Began awkwardly. Raced wide with cover.

Race 2: TEDDY BEARS PICNIC RACEDAY QTIS 2YO H'CAP – 1400M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed when J. Zielke, the trainer of 4th placegetter CLASS OF ROYALTY, made an application for the gelding to be declared a non-runner as stewards had not permitted the horse to wear a compression hood. Stewards pointed out to Mr Zielke that prior to the event he was advised the horse would not be permitted to race in the hood as it was non-approved gear and was not on the National Equipment Register. In addition, as Mr Zielke’s application did not fall within the scope of AR204, stewards did not accede to his application and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.

Race 3: WWW.BRC.COM.AU MAIDEN PLATE – 1400M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow stewards and T. Gollan, the trainer of both 2nd placegetter TRICKY MIX and 3rd placegetter COMBATIVITE, to review the patrol footage in the home straight. After viewing the videos Mr Gollan lodged an objection against TRICKY MIX being declared 2nd, alleging interference inside the final 100m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos it was established that shortly after passing the 100m TRICKY MIX laid outwards under pressure and in so doing shifted into the line of COMBATIVITE, resulting in COMBATIVITE having to be eased and losing momentum. After taking into account the way the race finished off, the degree of interference and the margin of a short half head separating both runners at the finish, stewards upheld the objection and declared correct weight on the amended placings of 12, 8, 7 and 11.
