GENERAL

As J. Byrne was not riding due to injury, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Due to restrictions imposed by the government as a result of the COVID-19 virus, stewards accepted the explanations of trainers who failed to declare riders by the prescribed time.

Race 1: XXXX DRY MAIDEN H'CAP – 1200M

DIVINE ELEVEN – Began awkwardly and was bumped. Raced four wide passing the 1000m before racing three wide without cover from the 800m. Bumped near the 300m. When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, R. Maloney stated that his intention was to go forward, which he attempted to do, but was unable to cross runners to his inside approaching the first turn and shortly after was unable to restrain his mount to obtain cover and therefore was caught wide from that point. Jockey Maloney added that the gelding was slightly disappointing in the run to the finish even though it had a wide run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a small laceration and localised swelling to the gelding’s off fore cannon. R. Maloney was reminded of his obligation to test his mount to the line.

VALET – Began awkwardly. Raced three wide with cover.

YOUPE – Began awkwardly.

MUSIC AWARD – Raced in restricted room passing the 800m and had to be steadied.

RONNIE – Bumped on jumping. Raced in restricted room approaching the 1000m and was steadied. Had to be steadied approaching the 300m when crowded for room by DEBONAIR DES, which laid in.

DEBONAIR DES – After arriving on course, underwent a veterinary examination at the request of the trainer and was cleared to start. Bumped on jumping. Laid in approaching the 300m, crowding RONNIE, and when corrected by its rider shifted out and bumped DIVINE ELEVEN.

UELEILAH – Began awkwardly and shifted out. A. Allen was reminded of his obligation to test his mount to the line.

Race 2: EVA AIR QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1300M

ACCARDO – Commenced to overrace when the pace steadied approaching the 1000m and had to be restrained from the heels of GO FACTOR.

DOCTOR COSTELLO – Commenced to overrace after being crossed by PAPAYA approaching the 1100m and had to be restrained from the heels of that runner.

EXPOSED SECRET – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

MISHANI UNSPOKEN – Raced keenly in the early stages when three wide with cover. Had to be steadied out away from the heels of EXPOSED SECRET passing the 700m and raced four wide from that point. Laid out under pressure over the final 200m, causing its rider to stop riding on a number of occasions.

Race 3: KIRIN QTIS 3YO FILLIES MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

The start of this race was delayed by 2 minutes when CITRUS BURST proved difficult to load.

ADELITA ROSE – Raced keenly passing the 800m and had to be steadied from the heels of LADY MELBA.

CITRUS BURST – Made contact with the outside running rail after arriving at the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Proved difficult to load. Raced three wide without cover before weakening over the final 300m. Trainer B. Smith advised stewards it would now be his intention to send the filly for a spell. However, stewards advised Mr Smith that the horse would need to perform to the satisfaction of stewards in an official barrier trial prior to resuming racing.

I AM A ROCKER – Began awkwardly.

ISABELLA’S SPRING – Began awkwardly. Had to be steadied passing the 800m when crowded for room whilst awkwardly placed at the heels of VIVID FORTRESS and then lost ground.

KUSAMA – Had to be steadied away from the heels of LA TRIOLI approaching the 800m.

LADY MELBA – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be exhibiting signs of the thumps. Trainer T. Gollan advised stewards that in light of today’s performance it would now be his intention to send the filly for a spell.

MITHU – Raced three wide in the early stages before striding forward and obtaining the lead passing the 700m.

Race 4: GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB CLASS 6 H'CAP – 1400M

SHALWA – Raced keenly whilst leading in the early stages.

PARK CHINOIS – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

VENI VIDI VICI – Bumped on jumping.

Race 5: SOUTHS SPORTS CLUB QTIS 3YO C&G MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

ANGUS THE BLACK – Bumped shortly after the start, unbalancing its rider.

DEGAS – Began awkwardly. Commenced to overrace when attempting to obtain cover passing the 1000m, was unable to do so and was caught wide before the rider elected to allow his mount to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader passing the 700m. Bumped by HEARTS DENIED approaching the 200m.

FINAL WARNING – Bumped on jumping.

FIORENTE STAR – Had to be restrained from the heels of ANGUS THE BLACK when the pace steadied approaching the 800m.

HEARTS DENIED – Laid out approaching the 200m and bumped DEGAS.

PERFECT QUALITY – Laid out under pressure over the final 100m.

Race 6: TREASURY BRISBANE CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1600M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to view footage of the final stages of the event to ascertain whether B. Thornton, the rider of 3rd placegetter NICHOLAS, had grounds on which to lodge an objection against the winner. After viewing the footage, stewards declined to proceed.

FAIRY ME HOME – Crowded shortly after the start and lost ground.

NICHOLAS – Hampered and had to alter course approaching the 100m when BACK THE ROCK laid out.

ROCK ‘N’ SOL – Fractious leaving the mounting enclosure and made contact with the running rail, underwent a veterinary examination at the barriers and was cleared to start.

CALABRIA – Slow to begin. Improved on to the heels of REXX approaching the 250m and had to be checked and was obliged to alter course to the inside to secure clear running.

DUCHESS OF ROSE – Crowded on jumping and lost ground. Improved on to the heels of OBELOS approaching the 200m and had to be steadied.

BACK THE ROCK – Reared just prior to the start being effected, getting its off fore leg momentarily up on the barrier partition, removed from the barriers, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. Overraced passing the 1200m, shifted three wide and remained racing three wide from that point. Laid out under pressure over the final 100m. When asked to comment on the seemingly improved performance, trainer D. Bougoure advised stewards that the gelding has had some minor ailments that have caused it some concern in the past, however, the horse had worked well leading into today’s event and he expected a reasonable showing today. He added that the gelding, having its third start back from a spell, was fitter for today’s event and had had an untroubled run and was suited by the tempo today, however, he was surprised by the win. Stewards noted the explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting moderate heat stress.

Race 7: LEXUS RATINGS BAND 0 – 70 H'CAP – 1200M

SNIPONET – Began awkwardly. Had to be steadied off the heels of I AM THE GENERAL approaching the 800m.

FASANO – Slow to begin. Had to be steadied from the heels of SNIPONET approaching the 800m.

MISHANI ISTANA – Began awkwardly.

MISHANI EL LOBO – After leading for the majority of the event, commenced to weaken when placed under pressure passing the 300m and finished at the rear of the field. Apprentice A. Thompson explained that the gelding travelled well until straightening and when placed under pressure failed to respond. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

TOP STRIKER – Hampered on jumping and lost ground.

INVINCIBLE AL – Raced three wide with cover throughout.

BOLD CHANCE – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
