SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

Thursday 21 May 2020

Stewards concluded an inquiry into a report made by the QRIC Integrity Investigations Team (IIT) on Sunday 8 March 2020 at the stable of Jan Aitkenhead. It was established that Ms Aitkenhead had a number of non-prescribed S4 products when her registered stables were inspected. Subsequently, Ms Aitkenhead pleaded guilty to a charge under AR252(1), and after hearing submissions stewards fined her the sum of $500.

Stewards concluded an inquiry into a report from the QRIC IIT that on 22 February 2020 trainer Graham Banks rode track work at Oakey Race Club with an unapproved whip. Mr Banks pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(2)(a) and was fined the sum of $200.

FIRSTHAND – Apprentice J. Huxtable was fined $100 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100m. In determining penalty, stewards took into account apprentice Huxtable’s good record in relation to this rule.

RECKLESS CHOICE – Bumped on jumping.

ENTERPRISE PRINCE – Connections advised that if the horse began well and there was no pace in the race, the intention would be to go forward. The horse was ridden accordingly. After passing the 1200m, when racing outside the leader, commenced to overrace and proved difficult to restrain. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the horse had sustained lacerations to the lower off hind leg consistent with being galloped on. The veterinary surgeon also reported that the horse had bled from both nostrils. Trainer M. Lakey was advised that the horse will be ineligible to race for 3 months, and prior to starting again must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a steward.

THY KINGDOM COME – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Hampered passing the 1300m. Passing the 1000m had to be steadied out to avoid the heels of RED CHASE and raced three wide for a short distance before being allowed to stride forward by its rider to obtain the lead passing the 600m.

Race 3: CANADIAN CLUB CLASS 6 H'CAP – 1000M

Prior to the declaration of correct weight T. Marshall, the rider of 2nd placegetter TRUCULENT, viewed the stewards’ footage, following which he advised that he did not wish to lodge an objection against the winner WIRNPA.

In the circumstances stewards did not believe there was sufficient evidence to warrant a careless riding charge, however, jockey A. Chau, the rider of SUPERGIANT, was advised to take more care when shifting ground in future. The veterinary surgeon reported that the gelding had a slow post-race recovery.
