Race 1: BRC GIRLS DAY OUT 20 MARCH QTIS 2-Y-O Maiden Plate 1300 metres

On return to scale a protest was lodged by J Orman, rider of second placegetter KENNY BOY against first past the post MISS GOT (L Tarrant), alleging interference near the 100 metres. After taking evidence from connections of both runners and viewing the patrol footage, Stewards found that at a point leaving the 100 metres MISS GO shifted out under pressure bumping KENNY BOY which resulted in that runner being taken off its line. Bearing in mind the short half head margin and the manner which KENNY BOY was finishing the race off the protest was upheld. L Tarrant, rider of MISS GOT, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

SUNRISE DANCER – Raced three wide for the majority of the event.

PULL ANCHOR – Apprentice M Wishart was questioned regarding her riding of the mare particularly in the early stages when PULL ANCHOR became detached from the main body of the field. Ms Wishart explained that she was instructed to settle in a rearward position as per the mares’ normal racing pattern but agreed she had erred in not maintaining a closer trailing position soon after the start until approaching the 600 metres.

She added that approaching the home turn she initially remained in a trailing position and when it became apparent she would not be able to improve to the inside she therefore elected to shift outside BOOM SPENDER to make her run to the outside before PULL ANCHOR finished the race off strongly.

Trainer T Gollan confirmed the instructions and agreed Ms Wishart would have been better served racing in a closer trailing position early which, particularly bearing in mind the slow tempo in the early stages, would have resulted in her not having to make up ground from the 600 metres. Mr Gollan also conceded App Wishart should have raced closer in the early stages particularly in view of the early slow tempo.

Stewards advised Ms Wishart she must at all times ride her mounts in a competitive manner, and although they agreed she had erred in the early stages were of the opinion her error was not as significant to be culpable under the rules.

BOOM SPENDER – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the middle stages.
