SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

12TH JUNE 2021 - GOLD COAST – RACE 5 – GDANSK

Stewards today concluded an enquiry into the running and handling of GDANSK which competed in Race 5 at Aquis Park Gold Coast on Saturday 12th June 2021.

Stewards reviewed the official films and considered evidence tendered by jockey Matthew McGillivray rider of GDANSK, Co-Trainer Toby Edmonds, a review of wagering on the event and a forensic examination of jockey McGillivray’s mobile phone. Stewards noted that whilst GDANSK was hampered on jumping and as a result settled further back in the field than anticipated. Jockey McGillivray’s ride on the gelding over the last 400m appeared to lack sufficient vigour. Jockey McGillivray explained that GDANSK is a difficult horse to ride and as it wanted to lay out, this prevented him from riding it in his usual manner as each time he went to apply pressure to GDANSK it was inclined to shift off its racing line. Stewards when considering McGillivray’s ride on GDANSK relied heavily on the fact, which was evident on the official film that GDANSK had its head turned inwards at various stages in the home straight and was inclined to shift outwards when McGillivray attempted to ride it with more vigour. Stewards were also mindful of the previous racing manners on GDANSK with a warning for hanging issued in Victoria and a bar imposed for hanging out at Aquis Park Gold Coast on the 27th of February 2021. Stewards also noted at its subsequent start it also laid out and proved difficult to ride in the home straight at the Aquis Park Gold Coast 26th June 2021. Stewards when considering jockey McGillivray’s ride and the evidence in its totality noted the circumstances regarding his ride and reminded jockey McGillivray of his obligations to ride his mounts in a manner which does not leave him open to questioning.

Stewards however issued a charge to Jockey McGillivray pursuant to AR114(2) for failing to report to Stewards anything which might have affected the running of a rider’s horse in a race and was fined $500.

26TH MAY 2021 – DOOMBEN – RACE 2 – 1350M

Stewards concluded an inquiry into the reason for J Huxtable falling from SYTHAERO at the 350m. After taking evidence from M Wishart (CHARM BRACELET), A Allen (AMENADIEL), J Orman (VITESSE FRANCAIS) and J Huxtable (SYTHAERO), it was established that J Huxtable’s mount SYTHAERO was inclined to lay in throughout the event and when the incident occurred, SYTHAERO was proving difficult to ride and VITESSE FRANCAIS was racing greenly and shifted out and away from AMENADIEL and as a result, SYTHAERO clipped that runners heels and fell. As Stewards could not attribute blame to any one rider and that the racing manners of both horses were the major contributor to the incident, Stewards took the matter no further.
