Thornton 54kg +0.5kg Race 1: MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM BRC Colts, Geldings & Entires No Metro Wins Handicap 1200 metres FANAAR (NZ) – Got its head up when being restrained and proved difficult to settle near the 1000m. Raced three wide without cover throughout. Laid out under pressure in the straight. VILLA VILLEKULLA – Had to be steadied shortly after the start when awkwardly placed at the heels of MOSCINI. At the 1000m when racing keenly had to be restrained off the heels of MOSCINI, which lost ground. MOSCINI – Approaching the 1000m, commenced to race keenly and had to be restrained when racing between FANAAR and EXCEED ROCK. Raced keenly in the middle stages. BELTARIA – Raced wide throughout. Race 2: ROKU GIN Fillies & Mares No Metro Wins Handicap 1200 metres MOTOMISS – Bumped on jumping with SOUBRETTE. Caught three wide without cover throughout. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. SUNRISE DANCER – Jumped away awkwardly. Momentarily held up for clear running approaching the 200m. Laid inwards over the final 100m. SOUBRETTE – Bumped on jumping with MOTOMISS. Overraced in the early stages. When jockey A. Spinks was questioned in regards to racing in a more forward position, he stated that there were no specific instructions from connections, and after jumping well, and with the lack of early speed in the race, he elected to push forward and as a result found himself racing outside the leader. ZOUKINA – Held up from the 450m to the 250m. Race 3: MOUNT FRANKLIN Class 3 Plate 1400 metres AWESOME LAD – Bumped on jumping with TAMILAIDE. Held up and unable to improve between the 600m and 400m. SAVVY OAK (NZ) – Raced three wide without cover throughout. TAMILAIDE – Slow to begin after being bumped by AWESOME LAD on jumping. Held up and unable to improve between the 600m and the 450m. BAD BARISTA – Jumped away awkwardly. Race 4: SLIPPER WINNERS @ MAGIC MILLIONS OPEN QUALITY HANDICAP2200 metres HAPPY GO PLUCKY – Underwent a post race veterinary examination which revealed the gelding to be stiff in both fore fetlocks and short striding in front. HUMBOLT CURRENT (GB) – Wanted to lay in in the straight. OCTOBER JOY – Jumped away awkwardly. Pulled hard in the early and middle stages. TEARS OF LOVE – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. Race 5: ASCOT GREEN GRAND PRIX STAKES 2100 metres CABOCHE (NZ) – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced three wide from the 1000m. SERGEANT SILVA – Shortly after passing the 1400m was bumped and crowded when POOL PONY shifted in. BALMAURICE – Bumped with STAR TWINKLE on jumping. POOL PONY – Momentarily became awkward on the heels of CABOCHE near the 450m. IRONIC MISS – Approaching the 1900m, had to be restrained when awkwardly placed to the inside of POOL PONY. STAR TWINKLE – Bumped with BALMAURICE on jumping. Race 6: TAB BENCHMARK 85 Handicap 1000 metres ARCHER’S PARADOX – Jumped away awkwardly inward. Checked at the 900m. On returning to scale, apprentice A. Patis lodged an objection against ALEYSA’S DREAM being declared the winner for alleged interference in the first 200m, and in the home straight. After taking evidence from the riders and trainers of the respective runners, and in considering the nature of the interference along with the manner in which the horses’ finished off the race, Stewards dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the semaphored numbers. Checked at the 900m. I DID IT AGAIN – Hampered on jumping. On inquiry, apprentice K. Wilson-Taylor was found guilty to a charge of careless riding (AR131(a)), in that near the 900m, he allowed his mount to shift in resulting in I DID IT AGAIN and ARCHER’S PARADOX being crowded and having to check. Apprentice K. Wilson-Taylor was subsequently suspended from riding in races for 9 days from midnight 27/12/21 to midnight 5/1/22).He was advised of his rights to an internal review. ALEYSA’S DREAM – Jumped awkwardly outwards. QUEEN SWEEPER – Raced three deep without cover throughout. XERRI – Crowded on jumping. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Race 7: XXXX GOLD EDITION PLATE 1200 metres FAR TOO EASY – Jumped away awkwardly. TIGER HEART – Jumped away awkwardly. Near the 1000m, got its head up when being steadied when racing in restricted room on the inside of FAR TOO EASY. JACKSON ON TIME – When giving ground, momentarily steadied off the heels of ME ME LAGARDE near the 200m RHAPSODY ROSE – Jumped away awkwardly. Rider R. Maloney stated that the filly never travelled comfortably throughout and he was disappointed in its effort. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. GLORIOUS RUBY – Trainer B. Dais advised of a change of tactics for the filly to be ridden more conservatively. Ridden accordingly. Disappointed for a run near the 300m and had to be taken inwards to obtain clear running. SONNET STAR – Slow to begin. BARISTASISTA – Near the 1000m, was inclined to lay outwards when placed at the heels of RHAPSODY ROSE, which rolled in. Race 8: TAB LOUGH NEAGH STAKES 1400 metres COUNTOFMONTECRISTO (NZ) – Approaching the 1200m, was buffeted when racing tight to the inside of CHAPTER AND VERSE. Had difficulty obtaining clear running and made contact with SAMBRO inside the 200m. TRICKY GAL – Approaching the 1200m, was buffeted when racing tight to the inside of COUNTOFMONTECRISTO (NZ). CHAPTER AND VERSE – Raced three wide without cover throughout. RED CHASE – A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. PROFIT – Slow into stride. Race 9: BRC MEMBERSHIP PLUS BENCHMARK 72 Handicap 1600 metres TESARC – Jumped away awkwardly. Near the 100m, was crowded for racing room between DUNE FORTY FIVE, which laid in and SPOKESMAN, which shifted out on making contact with SMOKEY DIAMOND. BRYNEICH – Bumped with LETHAL WARNING on jumping. SPOKESMAN – Raced keenly in the early stages and near the 1100m was steadied off the heels of LETHAL WARNING which shifted in. SMOKEY DIAMOND – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages. LETHAL WARNING (NZ) – Bumped with BRYNEICH on jumping. Raced three wide in the early stages.
