Race 1: CLUBS QUEENSLAND Fillies and Mares BENCHMARK 78
Handicap 1200 metres

COCO ROX – Apprentice K. Wilson-Taylor when asked to comment on the mare’s performance could offer no explanation other than the mare may not have appreciated todays’ racing surface. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings apart from mild dehydration.

RENOUF – Jumped away awkwardly. Approaching the 150m became awkwardly placed on the heels of MORI’S PRESS, and after shifting out was unable to obtain clear running when racing in restricted room between MORI’S PRESS and CHATTY LADY and as a result was unable to be fully tested in the run to the line.

CHATTY LADY – Stewards questioned jockey J. Orman in regards to his riding out of the mare over the concluding stages, in particular, his right arm being extended while riding out to the line. Jockey Orman stated that he was unaware that his arm was extended as far as it was and he could only attribute it to having a loose rain when trying to maintain a straight line over the concluding stages. Stewards noted Jockey Ormans explanation.

LOVE SENSATION – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.

SEDUCTION QUEEN – Overraced when being restrained in the early stages. Approaching the 1000m, raced in restricted room between RENOUF and COCO ROX, which shifted in. Apprentice K. Wilson-Taylor was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in future.

Race 2: SLATTERY AUCTIONS Colts, Geldings and Entires
BENCHMARK 78 Handicap 1200 metres

LUSKIN HERO – Rider M. Harley reported that his mount hung in throughout. Was held up for clear running on entering the home straight and as a result of the gelding hanging was unable to shift out around the heels of KAVAK, resulting in LUSKIN HERO being unable to be fully tested at any stage. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer Mr L. Mayfield-Smith was advised that a warning would be placed on the record of the gelding.

HAMLET VON SNITZEL – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Approaching the 200m was momentarily inconvenienced by PERSEIDS which shifted in whilst improving.

PERSEIDS – Slow to begin.

SPELLCATCHER – Passing the 300m, rider R. Maloney dropped his inside rein before quickly regathering. Laid in under pressure in the early part of the home straight. Jockey R. Maloney commented that the gelding was disappointing and may benefit with the addition of a tongue tie. A post race veterinary examination no significant findings. Trainer K. Lees reported that he will have the gelding scoped on returning to the stable and will report results to Stewards in the coming days. Jockey R. Maloney was charged pursuant to AR131(b) in that he did not fully ride his mount out over the concluding stages costing his mount fourth placing. Jockey Maloney had his license to ride in races suspended for seven (7) days commencing midnight 24th December 2022 and ending midnight the 31st December 2022. Jockey Maloney was advised of his right to internal review.

STAR GAMBLE – Slow into stride.

Race 3: NOVA 106.9 Class 3 Plate 1600 metres

AKIHIRO – Approaching the 1200m had to be restrained to avoid the heels of PIZZO, which rolled out when making the point of the turn awkwardly. Shortly thereafter became awkwardly placed on the heels of DECEMBER DIAMOND, which was carried in by HOLSTEIN which shifted in when insufficiently clear to do so. Apprentice K. Wilson-Taylor, rider of HOLSTEIN, was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in the future.

ALBURQ – Approaching the 1200m, was obliged to steady when taking evasive action to avoid heels. Laid in on entering the home straight.

He was also of the opinion that the colt may have choked down. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slow post race recovery. Trainer T. Gollan advised that the colt will undergo a further veterinary examination including an endoscopic examination on return to his stables.
