SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
From SCTC meeting Friday 16th December Race 4 IT’S HELLS BELLS – Trainer P Jenkins advised Stewards the gelding had undergone an endoscopic examination on the days following the event with no abnormalities detected, adding that IT’S HELLS BELLS would undergo further testing prior to racing again.
 
From SCTC meeting Friday 16th December Race 3 TORQUE SENSATION – Trainer S Kendrick advised Stewards the horse has now been transferred out of the stable.
 
From BRC meeting Saturday 17th December Race 2 SPELLCATCHER – Mr M Eggleston, representative for trainer K Lees, advised the horse has been scoped with no abnormalities detected, adding SPELLCATCHER will now be sent for a spell.
 
From BRC meeting Saturday 17th December – Race 8 SPIRITUALISED - Trainer T Gollan reported the horse has been scoped and no abnormalities detected, adding that the horse has worked well this week and the stable will be continuing with its current preparation.
 
GENERAL
 
Stewards permitted the following weight variations at today’s meeting:
Race 2: ALBERTA THE FOX – Tegan Harrison – 54kg (+2kg) owing to T Harrison replacing T Marshall who was not riding at the meeting and the mare being declared to be ridden at the true weight.
Race 8: KOPANGI – James Orman – 56kg – (+1kg)
 
Trainer S Kendrick was fined $300 under LR36(6)(a) for failing to scratch BULLOO which was a dual acceptor at this meeting from its engagement in Race 6 by the prescribed time.
 
 
Race 1: BRC MEMBERSHIP PLUS QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 68 Handicap 1400 metres
 
COOL 'N' READY – Crowded at the start. Over-raced in the early and middle stages when being restrained to obtain cover. Bumped rounding the home turn and became unbalanced momentarily when EKATERINA shifted out to improve. Near the 350m brushed by EKATERINA. Rider M Harley reported despite being bumped at the start and settling further back in the field than anticipated, he was disappointed in the overall performance of COOL ‘N’ READY. A post-race veterinary examination revealed clinical symptoms of the thumps.
 
EKATERINA – Crowded at the start when TRES REDOUTE shifted out abruptly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Shifted out to improve rounding the home turn and bumped EKATERINA. Near the 350m brushed with COOL ‘N’ READY.
 
BETTER STRINGS – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
TRES REDOUTE – Jumped out abruptly at the start. Rider M Du Plessis reported he was disappointed in the filly’s performance when placed under pressure in the home straight. Trainer D Forster advised she would now drop TRES REDOUTE back in distance, adding she would also experiment with gear changes going forward.
 
 
Race 2: LADBROKES MATES MODE Fillies and Mares Maiden Handicap 1400 metres
 
FIRSTLUV – Bumped at the start.
 
KALENDS – Jumped out at the start.
 
GLIDE ON BY – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight. Near the 300m held up when racing tightly to the inside of ROYAL MAKEOVER which shifted inwards under pressure.
 
ROYAL MAKEOVER – Raced wide throughout the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BONNIE VALE – Approaching the 300m, when weakening, was taken outwards by VALIANT JOAN which shifted out to improve. O’CALLAGHAN, which was following, was hampered as a consequence.B Loy, rider of VALIANT JOAN, was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
 
VALIANT JOAN – Bumped approaching the winning post.
 
ANATINI – Over-raced in the middle stages. Raced in restricted approaching the winning post between ROYAL MAKEOVER and VALIANT JOAN.
 
O'CALLOGHAN – Jumped out at the start and bumped FIRSTLUV. Approaching the 1000m steadied from the heels of VALIANT JOAN which shifted back to the rail after having been shifted momentarily wider after being crossed by KALENDS. B Loy, rider of VALIANT JOAN, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.  Approaching the 300m was hampered when awkwardly placed at the heels of the weakening BONNIE VALE.
 
DAMIANI – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight. Approaching the winning post had to be steadied away from the heels of KALENDS which shifted out under pressure and as a result bumped VALIANT JOAN.S Thornton, rider of KALENDS, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
 
 
 
Race 3: MAGIC MILLIONS Colts, Geldings and Entires Maiden Handicap 1400 metres
 
GREYLANDER – Over-raced in the early stages of the event.
 
NEOCLASSICISM – Slow to begin.
 
RED HOT RUBIX – At the entrance to the home straight, when shifting out to improve, bumped with DARING DIEGO. Near the 350m again bumped with DARING DIEGO when both runners shifted ground.
 
DARING DIEGO – From the wide barrier restrained at the start to a rearward position closer to the rails. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Bumped by RED HOT RUBIX at the entrance to the home straight and again near the 350m when both runners shifted ground.
 
 
Race 4: 35 EUREKA STAKES GRADUATES IN 5 YEARS Class 1 Handicap 1000 metres
 
BOODUA ROMANCE – Shifted out under pressure over the final 50 metres. W Peel, rider of BOODUA ROMANCE, was fined $200 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on six occasions prior to the 100m prior to the 100m.
 
TELEGRAPH – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running from the entrance to the home straight until approaching 200m.
 
ARCARIUS – Jumped in at the start.Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
MISS TAMBO – Began awkwardly. Laid out under pressure over final 200m. Rider A Jones reported the horse settled back further in the field than anticipated today and going forward was of the opinion MISS TAMBO would benefit from a step up in distance.
 
NEVER BEEN BETTER – Began awkwardly.
 
SUGARPIEHONEYBUNCH – Held up for clear running from entrance to home straight until approaching the 300m.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer representative for C Munce, was advised SUGARPIEHONEYBUNCH would be stood down under AR79(4) for a period of 3 months and must gallop 1000m in the presence of a Steward.
 
BONGANI – Raced wide for the majority of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the near hind leg. Trainer L Gersekowski was advised BONGANI would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race or trial start.
 
SECRET CASH – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
ARRIVERDERCI ROMA – Momentarily inconvenienced leaving the 300m when MISS TAMBO shifted out under pressure.M Castle, rider of ARRIVERDERCI ROMA, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on seven occasions prior to the 100m.
 
 
 
Race 5: LYNDON KEANE MEDIA Class 5 Handicap 1200 metres
 
WHAT THE FUSS – Knuckled on jumping, shifted inwards and bumped DARING BELLE. Put in an awkward stride near the 1000m.
 
BUNDYANDCOKE – Caught wide in the early stages of the event.
 
HOLIDAY DREAMS – Began awkwardly.
 
MAXCALEMMA – Rider R Maloney reported the horse travelled comfortably in the run however when placed under pressure was disappointing, particularly over the last 50 metres of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
CHOIR BOY – A short distance after the start crowded between BUNDYANDCOKE and MAXCALEMMA which shifted out marginally.
 
KNOCKKNEE – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
 
DARING BELLE – Bumped at the start by WHAT THE FUSS.
 
 
Race 6: XXXX DRY BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1500 metres
 
ASHGROVE – On arrival at the barriers the saddle on the horse was refitted. After being bumped at the start was then restrained from the wide barrier to a rearward position closer to the rails.
 
TORBRECK – Began awkwardly.
 
BAHAMUT – Slow to begin. N Tomizawa, rider of BAHAMUT, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on seven occasions prior to the 100m, 2 more than permitted.
 
GOLDEEL – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
 
EELLOH – Jumped out at the start and bumped ASHGROVE.
 
DANEZEL – Near the 1100m steadied when restrained from the heels of GOLDEEL which shifted in and away from WILMOT PASS. Held up for clear running between the 350m and 200m.
 
 
Race 7: ZOUSAIN FIRST YEARLINGS SELLING 2023 Class 3 Handicap 1400 metres
 
BRIARS KINGDOM – Shifted in under pressure near the 200m and bumped BILLY’S BRO. Brushed by BILLY’S BRO near the 1200m.
 
BULLOO – Delayed the start when proved difficult to load. Trainer S Kendrick was advised a warning would be placed on the horse’s barrier manners. Fractious after being loaded into the barriers.Began awkwardly and lost ground. Slow to begin. At the entrance to the home straight steadied from the heels of READY FOR BETTER. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying signs of being in season.
 
BILLY'S BRO – Laid out for the majority of the home straight. Bumped near the 200m by BRIARS KINGDOM.Near the 100m laid out and brushed with BRIARS KINGDOM.

DE MANARA – Change of tactics, less forward today. Ridden accordingly. B Loy, rider of DE MANARA, was fined $200 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 8 occasions prior to the 100m, 3 more than permitted. B Loy was also reprimanded under LR48 for leaving the track with permission of the Stewards.

MYSTIC AROMA – Co-Trainer W Hulbert advised the horse was short striding after the event which he attributed to today’s track conditions.
 
ROSE BOUQUET – Jumped out at the start and bumped KAIQUE. When over-racing was restrained from heels near the 600m.
 
READY FOR BETTER – Began awkwardly. S Thornton, rider of READY FOR BETTER, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted.
 
KAIQUE – Jumped in at the start and bumped ROSE BOUQUET. Near the 350m obliged to alter course inwards to secure clear running.
 
 
 
Race 8: GIRLS DAY OUT 4 MARCH BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1825 metres
 
OSTERMEIER – Slow to begin. M Castle, rider of OSTERMEIER, was fined $200 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m, 2 more than permitted.
 
AMERICAN SAINT – A Jones, rider of AMERICAN SAINT, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted.
 
STEINBRENNER – Rider J Lloyd dropped his whip near the 150m.

KIPLING'S JOURNEY – Raced three wide for the majority of the event. When weakening near the 200m was steadied from the heels of RAGING POLE when carried in by MILITARY GAMBLER which shifted in under pressure. M Harley, rider of MILITARY GAMBLER, was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.
 
REALAIDE – Raced wide in the early stages of the event. J Huxtable, rider of RELAIDE, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on seven occasions prior to the 100m, 2 more than permitted. J Huxtable reported after settling at the rear of the field RELAIDE was not suited by the slow tempo in the early and middle stages of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
ENDLESS MYSTERY – Raced keenly in the early stages of the event.
