GENERAL
 
Stewards approved the following jockey to ride overweight.
Race 5 – Andrew Mallyon plus 1/2kg at 55kg.
 
 
Race 1: RACECOURSE VILLAGE QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap 1000 metres
 
Bedaub – Bumped on jumping and became unbalanced.
 
Big Boy Ben – Jockey M Cahill reported that his mount was reluctant to improve when racing to the inside of runners entering the home straight. Jockey M Cahill was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip 6 times prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted.
 
Glass Of Rose – Steadied from heels near the 800m. Jockey R Jamieson was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(5) in that she used her whip in an excessive manner that being 16 times in total.
 
O'Polly – Began awkwardly.
 
 
 
Mishani Ambitious – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Raced greenly and laid in under pressure over the final 200m.
 
Revitup Charlie – Slow to begin.
 
Race 2: XXXX DRY BENCHMARK 78 Handicap 2200 metres
 
 
Military Gambler – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. Rider reported that the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation and that it may be best suited to distances shorter that of today’s event. Post-race veterinary examination failed to find any apparent abnormalities.

Namakwa – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Apprentice J Lloyd was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip 7 times prior to the 100m, 2 more than permitted.
 
Guts 'N' Glory – Tightened on jumping. Over raced early and middle stages.
 
Thatfridayfeeling (NZ) – Tightened on jumping. Raced keenly early. Jockey elected to leave a rearward trailing position when the tempo slowed and allowed his mount to stride forward from the 1500m and reached the lead passing the 1400m. Continued to over race for some distance. Post- race veterinary examination determined that the gelding was displaying clinical signs of heat stress.
 
Race 3: GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB BENCHMARK 72 Handicap 1600 metres
 
A Fighting Fury – Raced three wide early. Shifted in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
Dis Go Boom – Obliged to restrain from heels near the 250m when MISS BALTIMORE shifted in. Apprentice A Jones rider of MISS BALTIMORE was charged and pleaded guilty pursuant to AR131(a) in that when near the 250m she failed to prevent her mount from shifting in when not sufficiently clear of DIS GO BOOM which resulted in that runner restraining from heels. App Jones license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days to commence M/N 11/2/2023 and expire M/N 20/2/23.
 
Coup De Tonnerre – Raced in restricted room near the 200m and momentarily steadied.
 
Miss Baltimore – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Post -race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
Red Bloom – Jockey Ben Thompson was fined $200 pursuant to AR 132(6)(b) in that his whip action was above shoulder height.
 
Red Light Roxanne – Jockey N Berriman was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that she used the whip 6 times prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted.
 
 
Hellavadancer – Steadied from the heels of A FIGHTING FURY near the 1000m when that runner shifted in. Apprentice M Castle was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
Champagne Pop – Slow to begin. Improved onto heels near the 600m and steadied.
 
Race 4: SKY RACING BENCHMARK 85 Handicap 1500 metres
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight T Harrison rider of AKIHIRO reviewed the films to consider a possible objection however on review declined to proceed and correct weight was declared on the judges’ placings.
 
Animate – raced in restricted room near the 250m.
 
Rock Amore – Raced in restricted room near the 900m when THE TYLER laid in.
 
Wairere Falls (NZ) – Post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Jockey J Orman when asked to comment regarding the performance of the gelding stated after settling well it failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure and proved disappointing.
 
Alburq – Improved onto heels near the 500m and steadied. Shifted in approaching the finish line and bumped with AKIHIRO and became unbalanced.
 
Akihiro – Began awkwardly, lost ground and hampered shortly after. Raced in restricted room for a number of strides approaching the finish line between ANIMATE and ALBURQ which shifted in. Apprentice M Pottgeiter rider of ALBURQ pleaded guilty pursuant to AR131(a) in that approaching the finish line when under hard riding he allowed his mount to shift in causing AKIHIRO to be tightened and buffeted for a number of strides. The license of Apprentice Pottgeiter to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 days to commence M/N 11/2/23 and expire M/N 21/2/23.
 
The Tyler – Over raced early. Laid in throughout, shifted in abruptly near the 900m. Post-race veterinary examination determined the gelding to be stepping short. Stable representative for the trainer L Hatch was advised that a veterinary certificate of soundness would be required, and it will also need to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to resuming.
 
The Cullinan – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
Race 5: BRC MEMBERSHIP PLUS Class 3 Handicap 1000 metres
 
Buying Time – Raced wide. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment on the gelding’s performance jockey B Loy stated that after beginning worse than expected was obliged to settle further back in the field which had a detrimental effect on its performance.
 
Thatfeelsbetter – Tightened on jumping and lost ground.
 
Phoenix River – Raced wide.
 
Situation Room – Laid out over the concluding stages.
 
Celestial Sol – Raced wide.
 
Befana –Slow to begin. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
 
Inasec –Began awkwardly. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
Campai – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
Race 6: MARGARET GREENUP QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 72 Handicap 1400 metres
Tsarina Sophia – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Raced wide.
 
Hang Five – Raced wide. Bumped rounding the home.
 
Executive Stress – Required farrier attention to its near hind prior to leaving the enclosure.
 
Centre Bounce – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Post -race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
Northern Pride –Slow to begin.
 
Whistling Spirit – Co Trainers R Tyrell & T Button were fined $200 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider within the prescribed time. Over raced in the early and middle stages.
 
Red Star Rubi – Slow to begin.
 
Wyatt River – Laid out approaching the home turn.
 
Alfa Lily -Began very awkwardly, bumped, and lost ground. Over raced early and middle stages. Held up rounding the home turn then bumped with HANG FIVE when shifting wider to improve.
 
Race 7: LADBROKE IT! Class 6 Handicap 1200 metres
 
Joviality – Slow to begin. Forced four wide near the 800m when MAYA BAY shifted out then continued to race wide for some distance before restraining to a position nearer the rail approaching the 800m. When asked to comment regarding the tactics J Orman stated that his instructions were to settle midfield however after being caught wide and then forced wider jockey Orman felt his best option was to restrain and look for a run nearer the rail but when a run did not present approaching the home turn he was then again obliged to ease wider in an attempt to secure a clear run. Stewards when considering the explanation tendered by jockey Orman and on review of the film noted his explanation.
 
Acrobatic – Raced wide. Jockey Justin Huxtable was fined $200 pursuant to AR 132(6)(b) in that his whip action was above shoulder height.
 
Majestic Shot – Forced wider near the 800m when MAYA BAY shifted out then raced wide for the remainder.
 
Stuttering – Raced wide.
 
King Kapa – Began awkwardly.
 
Maya Bay –Bounded on jumping and lost ground. Over raced near the 800m and shifted wider.
 
Rhythmic Pulse - Trainer G Allard was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider within the prescribed time.
 
Alpha Go – Blundered on jumping. Over raced early and middle stages.
 
Race 8: MOUNT FRANKLIN OPEN Handicap 1800 metres
 
 
Mohican heights (IRE) – Slow to begin. Held up approaching the home turn. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment regarding the improved performance of MOHICAN Mr B Killion stable representative for the C Waller stable stated that the gelding has worked well since its last performance and expected an improved effort being second up from a spell and up in distance.
 
Pancho – Over raced early and middle stages. Bumped with SOUTHERN ROCK rounding the home turn. Near the 300m Nikita Berriman’s whip momentarily became entangled with that of SCARLET TUFTY placing it at a disadvantage.
 
Point Counterpoint – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn until approaching the 200m.
 
Mubariz (GB) – Over raced throughout.
 
Sagacious – Jockey J Byrne pleaded guilty pursuant to AR131(b) in that he failed to ride his mount out to the end of the race and by failing to do so cost his mount 4th place. Mr Byrnes license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence M/N 4/2/23 and expire M/N 11/2/23.
 
Indian Dreamer – Slow to begin.
 
Southern Rock (IRE) – Raced wide. Bumped with Pancho rounding the home turn.
 
Trevelyan – Steadied from the heels of BARADE rounding the home turn.
 
Scarlet Tufty (FR) - Near the 300m Ben Thompsons whip momentarily became entangled with that of PANCHO placing it at a disadvantage. Bumped near the 200m.
 
Race 9: GIRLS DAY OUT 4 MARCH BENCHMARK 72 Handicap 1300 metres
 
The start of this event was delayed when MICHIGAN required a gear adjustment.
 
Fire King – Near the 1000m raced in restricted room between COLLAYS SPIRIT and CHARGE ON.
 
Overseas (NZ) – Held up in the early part of the straight until approaching the finish line.
 
Charge On (NZ) – Raced wide.
 
Collay's Spirit (NZ) – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Over raced early. Shifted wider near the 600m.
 
Pentito – Over raced early.
 
Whitewater – Shifted in under pressure approaching the finish line.
 
A Big Chance – Slow to begin then hampered.
 
Flybridge – Over raced early.
 
Michigan – When tiring approaching the finish line obliged to steady from the heels of WHITEWATER which shifted in. Post- race veterinary examination failed to determine any apparent abnormalities.
 
Comrade Rosa – Raced wide early. Forced 4 wide near the 600m when COLLAYS SPIRIT shifted out to improve before restraining for cover.
