SUPPLEMENTARY
17 June 2023 – Race 9. Gai Waterhouse Classic – Ipswich
Stewards today concluded an inquiry into jockey J. Bayliss’ use of the whip on the mare CHASSIS. Jockey J. Bayliss pled guilty to a charge pursuant to AR132(5) for using his whip on seventeen occasions in totality. Jockey Bayliss’s license to ride in races was suspended for seven days commencing at midnight the 1st of July 2023 and ending at midnight the 8th of July 2023. 
 
GENERAL
 
As jockey L. Nolen was indisposed and not riding at today’s meeting, he was replaced as per the Steward’s Summary.
 
Stewards approved the following overweight allowances at today’s meeting:
Race 3 – YOUNG WERTHER – J. Parr + 0.5kg
Race 9 – LICONA – N. Day + 1kg
 
Race 1: TATTERSALL'S LIFE MEMBERS STAKES 1400 metres
 
CAP FERRAT - Rounding the home turn became momentarily awkward at heels of INFANCY which shifted out after being bumped by RIGHT TO PARTY.
 
ET TU BRUTE - Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
KIRIKAN (NZ) - Slow to begin. Had a tendency to lay in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey J. Parr reported that his mount raced greenly in the home straight.
 
ZOUKERETTE - Began awkwardly. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
 
INFANCY - Bumped rounding the home turn and became momentarily unbalanced when RIGHT TO PARTY shifted out to improve. Jockey A. Mallyon reported that his saddle shifted after being bumped rounding the home turn.
 
 
Race 2: EDWARD STREET BRISBANE QTIS 3YO Fillies Plate 1200 metres
 
EKATERINA – Jockey T. Clark was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on six occasions prior to the 100m.
 
CHINNY BOOM – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight. Jockey B. Thompson reported that the filly travelled comfortably throughout but was disappointing when asked for an effort in the home straight.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be displaying a poor post race recovery.
 
CYTHERA – Began awkwardly. Leaving the 600m improved onto heels and had to be steadied. Approaching the 400m had to be steadied from the heels of FLANK SPEED and shifted wider.
 
MINKS STAR – Began awkwardly. Raced wide until the 700m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
EN POINTE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be displaying signs of heat stress.
 
GHAANATI – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
MENARI MAGIC – Began awkwardly.
 
DEB'S ELLIE – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
FLANK SPEED – Began awkwardly. Rounding the home turn and approaching the 400m had to be checked when racing in restricted room between LA SOEUR and EN POINTE.  Jockey M. Harley, rider of LA SOEUR, was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for shifting ground in this incident.
 
 
Race 3: TATTERSALL'S CUP 2400 metres
 
LONDON BANKER (NZ) - Slow to begin. Jockey J. Orman reported that the gelding was one paced and was disappointing in its finishing effort. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
 
LUNCIES (GB) – Jockey T. Clark was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip six times prior to the 100m.
 
SPIRIT RIDGE (GB) – Began awkwardly.
 
YOUNG WERTHER (NZ) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer Mr D. O’Brien was advised that YOUNG WERTHER will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
THE MEDITERRANEAN (IRE) – Jockey B. Thompson reported that the horse was one paced in its finishing effort.
 
 
Race 4: 2023 BATTLE OF THE BUSH (FINAL) No Metro Wins-Last 2 Years 1200 metres
 
MOSCINI – Raced wide throughout.
 
NICK THE SKIP – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
 
AHWAHNEECHEE – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
ISIS CARMELLA – Lost the off hind plate in running.
 
DIGGITY – Leaving the 1000m, had to be steadied when awkward placed at heels.
 
LOUD NOISE – Had to be steadied when ISIS CARMELLA shifted in passing the 1000m. Raced wide throughout.
 
ROLLINWITHTHEFLOW – Raced wide throughout. Underwent a post race veterinary examination which revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. Connections were advised that ROLLINWITHTHEFLOW will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
ART BY CONCORDE – Raced wide throughout. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Raced in restricted room near the 250m.
 
GRAND PALAZZO (NZ) – Slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
MUSIC AWARD – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 1000m became awkwardly placed at the heels of GOLDEN ATHENA which shifted out. Over raced during the middle stages. Approaching the 700m had to be restrained off heels for a number of strides.
 
MISTER LARRABEE – Slow to begin.
 
GOLDEN ATHENA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Approaching the 1000m had to be checked from the heels of LOUD NOISE when tightened for racing room between THERESABEARINTHERE which made the turn awkwardly and shifted out, and LOUD NOISE which shifted in marginally. Leaving the 300m had difficulty securing clear running when awkwardly placed at the heels of HARD STRIDE.   
 
COAT OF ARMS – Leaving the 150m shifted out under pressure and bumped MUSIC AWARD. Jockey L. Tilley pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR210(1) for failing to weigh in when required to do so and was fined $600. 
 
Race 5: TATTERSALL'S MILE 1600 metres
 
SUPERSTORM – Began awkwardly. Underwent a post race veterinary examination which revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
CHARACTER – Raced wide throughout.
 
PUNTURA (NZ) – Over raced during the early and middle stages.
 
FINEPOINT – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
LINTHORPE LAD – Leaving the 1100m, whilst over racing improved onto heels and shifted wider.
 
OCEAN TREATY (NZ) – Raced wide throughout.
 
OSMOSE (FR) – Raced wide throughout.
 
AUSSIE NUGGET (IRE) – Slow to begin.
 
RENOUF – Raced keenly during the middle stages.
 
MISTER YU SHU - Approaching the 500m, attempted to shift wider but was unable to do so when CHARACTER held its racing line.
 
 
Race 6: KIIS 973 TATTERSALL'S GOLD CROWN 2137 metres
 
PRETTY AMAZING - Began awkwardly. Bumped shortly after the start. Held up rounding the home turn and obliged to shift in to obtain clear running.
 
REBEL RAMA - Slow to begin.  A post race veterinary examination revealed a slow post race recovery.
 
PRINCESS RHAENYS – Began awkwardly. Over raced throughout. Leaving the 1400m, shifted in and contacted the rail.  Approaching the 1000m, improved onto heels, had to be checked and shifted outwards.
 
MEDIA AWARD – Slow to begin.
 
BELLACIAOCIAO (FR) – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Momentarily steadied approaching the 300m when tightened for room between NOM DE PLUME and PRETTY AMAZING which shifted in and away from A DEEL OF HUMOUR, which shifted in under pressure before being corrected by its rider.
 
NOM DE PLUME (NZ) - Jumped awkwardly, shifted in and bumped PRETTY AMAZING. Raced wide until approaching the 1500m.
 
LEFT REELING (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Raced wide from the 1100m.
 
A DEEL OF HUMOUR – Raced wide until approaching the 1700m. Approaching the 300m, shifted in under pressure before being corrected by its rider.
 
NOAH 'N' A DEEL – Raced wide during the early stages. Shifted wider at the 1100m. 
 
 
Race 7: SKY RACING TATTERSALL'S TIARA 1400 metres
 
ELECTRIC GIRL – Jockey J. Lloyd was fined $500 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on seven occasions prior to the 100m.
 
KIKU – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
 
PALAISIPAN – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight until the 300m. Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor was fined $800 pursuant to AR131(c) for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post.
 
FOXY FRIDA – Began awkwardly and bumped after the start. Jockey B. Egan’s license to ride in races was suspended for seven days pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on eleven occasions prior to the 100m, commencing from midnight the 1st of July 2023 until midnight the 8th of July 2023.
 
CHAIN OF LIGHTNING – Laid in under pressure approaching the 150m.
 
ROOTS – Laid out under pressure approaching the 350m.
 
MIRRA VISION – Shifted out at the start. Over raced during the middle stages. Raced wide throughout.
 
CHAILLOT – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Improved onto heels approaching the 300m and had to be steadied. Was disappointed for a run leaving the 200m before securing clear running leaving the 150m.  
 
EXCELIDA – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight and became awkward at heels approaching the 350m. Apprentice C. Gaudray was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on eight occasions prior to the 100m.
 
COMRADE ROSA – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn until the 300m.
 
CHARMMEBABY (NZ) – Slow to begin. Approaching the 1200m, had to be checked when racing between FOXY FRIDA and CHAILLOT. As rider B. Egan had left the course, Stewards will inquire into this incident at date and time to be fixed.
 
SHE'S ALL CLASS – Slow to begin. Jockey J. Bayliss dropped his whip leaving the 350m.
 
TYCOON EVIE – Began awkwardly.
 
RUTHLESS DAME (NZ) – Bumped shortly after jumping. Raced wide throughout. Rider J. Allen advised Stewards that the mare was obliged to race wide throughout which had a detrimental effect on RUTHLESS DAME’S finishing effort.
 
OPAL RIDGE – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight. When asked to comment, apprentice T. Schiller stated that in his opinion the filly would have appreciated greater racing room in the early stages of the home straight, however when able to secure clear running approaching the 300m the filly finished the race off well.
 
REVOLUTIONARY MISS – Began awkwardly and contacted the inside barrier partition. Raced wide throughout. Became awkward at heels approaching the 350m.
 
 
Race 8: EUREKA STUD W.J. HEALY STAKES 1200 metres

PRINCE OF BOOM – Raced wide until approaching the 900m.
 
EMERALD KINGDOM – Began awkwardly. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
 
QUANTICO – Began awkwardly and hampered shortly after the start. Apprentice T. Schiller was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on six occasions prior to the 100m.
 
RANGES – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Approaching the 200m, improved onto heels and had to be steadied.  
 
KING KAPA – Jockey B. Thompson commented that the gelding travelled well but disappointed in its finishing effort. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
SIMPLY FLY – Slow to begin.
 
THE BIG GOODBYE – Shifted out at the start. At the 800m, steadied from the heels of CONTEMPTUOUS which shifted in when not fully clear. Apprentice J. Lloyd was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. Jockey M. Harley was fined $300 for using his whip on eight occasions prior to 100m.
 
SALATEEN – Began awkwardly.
 
CONTEMPTUOUS – Raced wide until the 800m. Jockey J. Lloyd was fined $500 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on seven occasions prior to the 100m.
 
MISHANI SNIPER – Raced wide throughout. At the 300m, inconvenienced and shifted wider by THE BIG GOODBYE which shifted out under pressure.  
 
ARENTEE – Raced wide throughout. Passing the 200m, improved onto heels and was obliged to shift out.
 
BRERETON – Began awkwardly.
 
 
Race 9: IMPRESSU PRINT GROUP No Metro Wins Handicap (This Season) 1200 metres
 
The start of this race was delayed when JEMELDI displaced its bridle in the barriers, had to be removed and have its bridle refitted.
 
SEA RAIDER – Approaching the 600m, momentarily raced in restricted room. Disappointed for a run approaching the 50m and had to be steadied.
 
STAMPE – Knuckled on jumping. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SURREAL STEP – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
KINLOCH – Hampered on jumping. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Approaching the 300m, was obliged to shift inwards to secure clear running. Became awkwardly placed on the heels of SWISS EXILE passing the 100m and was obliged to shift out to improve.
 
SWISS EXILE – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
MATOWATAKPE – Slow to begin.
 
JEMELDI – Shifted in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
LASTING KISS – Raced wide throughout. Apprentice C. Gaudray was fined $400 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on nine occasions prior to the 100m.
 
LUSKIN HERO – Raced wide throughout.
