SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
GENERAL
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer J Bruce for failing to scratch KAI TAK by the prescribed time pursuant to LR36(6)(a).
Race 1: MEKKAFEST 19 AUGUST QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1000 metres
BEAUTANTES – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.
FUKUBANA – Shifted in at the start and bumped FRIENDLY SIZZLE. Raced wide throughout.
I'LLTELLYOUWHEN – Began awkwardly.
TIGERS ROAR – Began awkwardly and was restrained at the start to obtain a rearward position. Over raced in the middle stages and had to be steadied on several occasions. Held up from rounding the home turn until the 300m and shifted wider to improve. Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.
FRIENDLY SIZZLE – Bumped at the start. Jockey G Cartwright reported that her mount had a tendancy to hang out throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery.
SURREAL ASCOT – Momentarily held up when awkwardly placed at heels leaving the 200m.
Race 2: CASCADE Maiden Plate 1200 metres
HOT SUMMER – Bumped at the start. Raced wide until a point approaching the 600m. Laid in under pressure approaching the winning post.
TEPPANYAKI (NZ) – Had a tendency to shift out under pressure in the home straight.
BELIEVE THE HYPE – As jockey J Adams was delayed arriving on course due to traffic, he was replaced by jockey S Collett as the rider of the gelding. Slow to begin. Approaching the 200m, was obliged to steady when placed in restricted room when racing between BRYDELICIOUS, which shifted out when awkwardly placed at the heels of PHARAONIC, and CLASSIC BOOM which laid in under pressure.
KING KRYPTOS – Raced wide until a point approaching the 800m. Hung in under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery.
MIKKI EIGHT – Slow to begin.
PHARAONIC – Slow to begin. Improved onto heels approaching the 300m and was obliged to shift outwards. Had a tendency to lay out under pressure over the final 200m.
CLASSIC BOOM – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice J Lloyd reported that the horse was making an abnormal noise on return to scale. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be making an abnormal respiratory noise. Co-trainer M Hoysted was advised that the mare would require a veterinary certificate, inclusive with the results of an endoscopic examination prior to next racing.
BRYDELICIOUS – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight before shifting wider to improve. Approaching the 150m, momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of CLASSIC BOOM which shifted in under pressure.
HECTOR SAGOA (NZ) – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped HOT SUMMER.
Race 3: XXXX DRY QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1200 metres
BETTER BE NORDY – Began awkwardly. Raced wide until a point approaching the 800m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed an abnormal respiratory noise. Trainers representative advised that the gelding was scoped on return to the stable and mucus was found present in the airway of the gelding. Trainers representative was advised that the BETTER BE NORDY would require a veterinary certificate prior to next racing.
BOOM TORQUE – Began awkwardly. Had a tendency to lay out leaving the 600m and again laid out rounding the home turn despite the efforts of its rider. Near the 300m, attempted to improve between BETTER BE NORDY, which laid out before being corrected by its rider, and ELROY, and had to be steadied when disappointed for a run.
NEOCLASSICISM – Approaching the 800m, improved onto heels and had to be steadied.
QUOTHQUAN – Slow to begin.
KAI TAK – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly whilst being restrained in the early and middle stages. Leaving the 600m, raced in restricted room. Approaching the home turn, when racing in restricted room, contacted the hind quarters of ELROY and became unbalanced and had to be steadied. Held up from the 400m, until a point approaching the 250m. Had a tendency to lay out under pressure over the concluding stages.
JOHNNY UTAH – Approaching the 800m, improved onto heels and shifted wider.
ELROY – Raced wide throughout. Bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced rounding the home turn.
TIME FOR JACK – Restrained at the start to a rearward position closer to the rails.
Race 4: SKY RACING Class 1 Handicap 1800 metres
SAVILEO – Buffeted between runners shortly after the start. Improved onto heels at the 900m and shifted wider.
CHAYSE 'N' ARTIE – Shifted in at the start. Laid in before being corrected by its rider approaching the 1700m point. Leaving the 1600m, raced in restricted room.
ENUNCIATION – Caught wide in the early and middle stages before progressing to a forward position approaching the 1000m.
CRADLE OF LIFE – Began awkwardly, hampered shortly after and lost ground. Obliged to shift inwards approaching the 300m to secure clear running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
FLASH PRINCE – Hampered shortly after the start. Caught wide in the early and middle stages before progressing to the leading position approaching the 1200m.
GLEEFILLY – Raced in restricted room shortly after the start and was bumped on a number of occasions by SAVILEO. Cast its near-hind plate in the running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be showing signs of being in season.
MURRAJONG ROAD (NZ) – Trainer J Bruce advised that it is the intention for the gelding, from the inside barrier attempt to be ridden in a more forward position with cover if circumstances permit. Settled in a midfield position with cover. Leaving the 1600m, raced in restricted room. Jockey C Bayliss was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m.
YUKANUMA – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after arriving late on course due to traffic, and was cleared to start. Held up rounding the home turn.
CLASSIQUE GAL – Approaching the 1600m, raced in restricted room and shortly after had to be steadied from the heels of HADOUKEN, which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey M Du Plessis the rider of HADOUKEN was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. Approaching the 500m was bumped by MURRAJONG ROAD which shifted out to improve.
Race 5: BRC MEMBERSHIP ON SALE NOW Class 2 Handicap 1000 metres
ROCONONO – Raced wide throughout. Turned on the hind quarters rounding the home turn.
OSTERBERG – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Jockey A Mallyon reported that he was disappointed in the gelding’s performance. Rounding the home turn, raced in restricted room between THE ORPHAN which shifted out and ROCONONO. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainers representative advised that consideration would put into sending the gelding for a spell.
SHALAA'S MOMENT – Approaching the 900m, when being directed inwards by its rider, clipped the heel of ARCARIUS and blundered.
ARCARIUS (NZ) – Held up rounding the home turn. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey J Orman stated that his mount was galloped on shortly after the start. Trainer B Lockwood advised that the gelding presented post-race with a cough and would undergo an endoscopic examination in the subsequent days and he would forward the results to Stewards.
DEVIL ENUFF – Leaving the 900m, tightened for room and had be steadied when SHALAA’S MOMENT shifted in after becoming unbalanced as a result of clipping the heels of ARCARIUS after being directed inwards by its rider. Apprentice J Lloyd, the rider of SHALAA’s MOMENT pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR131(a), in that near the 900m he directed his mount in and across the heels of ARCARIUS when insufficiently clear in an attempt to secure a position closer to the fence and as a consequence, clipped the heels of ARCARIUS, blundered and became unbalanced and shifted in, tightening the running of DEVIL ENUFF and READY FOR BETTER, which both had to be steadied. Apprentice Lloyd’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 13 days to commence midnight the 12th of July and to expire midnight the 25th of July. Apprentice Lloyd was advised of his appeal rights. Approaching the home turn, laid in and became unbalanced.
ZOOCUPOLA – Raced wide throughout.
READY FOR BETTER – Began awkwardly, bumped shortly after and lost ground. Raced in restricted room to the inside of DEVIL ENUFF leaving the 900m.
ZOUMETEOR – Bumped at the start.
THE ORPHAN (NZ) – Became awkward when racing between runners rounding the home turn and shifted out and bumped OSTERBERG, who in turn shifted out and bumped the hind quarters of OSTERBERG.
JIMMY NEUTRON – Raced wide throughout.
Race 6: LADBROKES HUB QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 68 Handicap 1200 metres
THELWELL – Began awkwardly and bumped VIMINELE. Approaching the 1000m, raced in restricted room to the inside of BEAN GROOVY and shifted in and had its hindquarters bumped by VIMINELE. When asked to comment on the performance apprentice C Graham advised that it wasn’t her intention to lead however was obliged to pressure her mount to obtain a position closer to the rail. She added that the gelding travelled comfortably however when placed under pressure in the home straight, proved disappointing. Apprentice C Graham advised that the gelding may be better suited when racing with cover. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery.
MAKE IT FLASHY – Apprentice J Lloyd dropped his whip near the 100m.
NOTED – Tired over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery.
VIMINELE – Bumped at the start. Approaching the 1000m, raced in restricted room and had to be steadied from the heels of THELWELL which shifted in after being tightened by BEAN GROOVY. Jockey T Harrison the rider of BEAN GROOVY was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. Had difficulty obtaining clear running from rounding the home turn until a point leaving the 250m.
SAWEETIE – Raced wide throughout. Jockey B Thompson reported at scale that he was caught wide in the event as he was unable to secure a midfield trailing position with cover.
CHEROKEE GIRL – Stewards permitted Apprentice A Jones to not claim down to her riding weight. Raced wide until the 700m.
Race 7: RACECOURSE VILLAGE Class 4 Handicap 1200 metres
AYAHUASCA – Connections advised that it is the intention for the mare to be ridden with cover if circumstances permit. Raced three-wide without cover throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
STICK TO YOUR GUNS – Raced wide until a point approaching the 800m. When asked to comment on the performance jockey J Orman advised that the gelding had a tendency to lay out during the event and when placed under pressure, proved disappointing. Jockey Orman also recommended to connections that the addition of blinkers may be beneficial. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
GAIUS – Began awkwardly.
SUPER GORGEOUS – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
ENABLER – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
Race 8: GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1500 metres
BAGLIONI – Began awkwardly and then hampered shortly after by STEINBRENNER which laid out in the early stages despite the efforts of its rider. Held up on entering the home straight and was obliged to shift in to obtain clear running. Altered course approaching the 150m. When questioned regarding her riding over the final 200m, in particular her decision to shift around the heels of STEINBRENNER and KRONENBOURG, apprentice Graham stated that she elected to shift wider of these runners leaving the 200m, due to STEINBRENNER shifting in under pressure leaving the 200m, which she felt would have required her to race in inferior ground closer to the rail if she elected to continue racing to the inside of that runners heels. She further added in hindsight it may have been a better option for her to have remained racing to the inside of STEINBRENNER as opposed to shifting wider and losing momentum. Stewards agreed with apprentice Graham that she had erred in not availing herself to the run to the inside of STEINBRENNER, however bearing in mind that she is an apprentice rider, Stewards noted her explanation.
KRONENBOURG (NZ) – Raced wide until a point near the 1000m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
REFORMIST – Hampered shortly after the start by STEINBRENNER which laid out in the early stages despite the efforts of its rider. Whilst weakening became awkward at heels near the 100m point.
DAUVENAY – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainers representative was advised that the mare would require a veterinary certificate prior to next racing. Trainers representative Mr Mel Eggleston advised Stewards that the mare would now be retired.
SHOW ME YOUR LOVE – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.
TAVI L'AMOUR (NZ) – Slow to begin.
WHAT A SHAM (NZ) – Raced wide until approaching the 800m.
BLAZEN BOOTS (NZ) – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. Jockey R Maloney reported at scale that the gelding raced wide without cover for the majority of the event which he believed took a toll on its finishing effort.
