GENERAL
Trainer M. Dunn was fined $300 under the provisions of LR36(6) for failing to scratch dual acceptor (READY FOR ANYTHING) by the prescribed time.
Stewards issued a reprimand to trainers J. Bruce (UNCLE RUSS) and T. Gollan (DAYTONA) under the provisions of LR36(6) for failing scratch their dual acceptors by the prescribed time.
 
 
Race 1: LADBROKES RACING CLUB NO METRO WINS HANDICAP 1000 Metres
 
DRAGON MISS – Over raced during the early stages. Momentarily inconvenienced approaching the 200m.
 
LOST IN TRANSIT – As apprentice B. Wheeler failed to arrive on course and with no apprentice available, Stewards permitted him to be replaced by jockey J. Huxtable. Over raced during the middle stages. Passing the 600m, whilst over racing, had to be restrained after improving onto the heels of HOLD ON HONEY. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight, and on passing the 300m, was obliged to shift wider to obtain clear running. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
WARRIORESS – Began awkwardly and was slow into stride. Over raced during the early stages.
 
CLOVER'S PRINCE – Over raced during the early stages.
 
 
Race 2: WIDDEN BASIL NOLAN JR QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD PLATE 1000 Metres
 
HEAD HONCHO – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running passing the 300m and obliged to shift out to improve. Shortly afterwards raced in restricted room between SAMBUCA and MOET AT MIDNIGHT which shifted in marginally. Approaching the 200m, had to be momentarily steadied from the heels of KAHLISEE which shifted in under riding.
 
INVADING JILLY – Raced greenly during the middle stages. Shifted in at the 700m, contacted the running rail and became unbalanced.
 
MOET AT MIDNIGHT – Underwent a pre race veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly. Passing the 600m became awkwardly placed on the heels of INVADING JILLY and shifted out as a result. J. Lloyd advised that the gelding, in his opinion, raced flat. MOET AT MIDNIGHT underwent a post race veterinary examination which revealed a poor post race recovery.
 
KAHLISEE – Slow to begin. Leaving the 600m, raced in restricted room. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
MISHANI STORM - Jockey B. Thompson reported that his mount raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
 
MISHANI STYLE – Laid in shortly after the start when racing greenly.
 
VALLEY OF OWLS – Began awkwardly, hampered shortly after the start. Lost the off hind plate in running. Jockey K. Matheson reported that the filly was making an increased upper respiratory noise. A post race veterinary examination revealed VALLEY OF OWLS to be displaying shin soreness in both forelegs. Trainer R. Tyrell was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to VALLEY OF OWLS racing again. Mr Tyrell advised that he will have the filly undergo an endoscopic examination and report back to Stewards any relevant findings in the coming days.
 
SAMBUCA – Began awkwardly. Rider J. Guthman-Chester reported that the gelding travelled well, however failed to respond to his riding in the home straight and was disappointing. A post race veterinary examination revealed a poor post race recovery.
 
ROCKRATA – Raced greenly throughout.
 
 
Race 3: GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1200 Metres
 
READY FOR ANYTHING – Raced wide throughout. Over raced during the middle stages. Approaching the 200m, was brushed by FIXATED and became unbalanced. Jockey D. Thornton could not offer any explanation for the disappointing performance, adding that he suggested to connections that a drop back in distance might be beneficial and the removal of blinkers as the gelding had a tendency to race keenly today. Trainer M. Dunn advised that he would give consideration to removing the blinkers prior to the gelding’s next race start. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
UNCLE RUSS – Over raced during the middle stages.
 
BROCKY – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
FIXATED – Slow to begin. Passing the 800m, when over racing, obliged to steady after improving onto the heels of SCRIPT WRITER. Held up rounding the home turn and was then disappointed for a run leaving the 400m.  
 
SCRIPT WRITER – Raced in restricted room over the final 200m.
 
FASTLING – Raced wide for the majority.
 
 
Race 4: RQ SUPPORTS RACING INDUSTRY SAFETY QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1400 Metres
 
IN EVIDENCE – Over raced leaving the 1000m. Apprentice B. Wheeler advised at scale that after beginning well he felt that the inside runners had the intention to go forward and with this in mind he felt he would have been caught wide and would have had to overexert the gelding, therefore he elected to restrain and take up a rearward position. When questioned, trainer J. Wigginton stated that his pre race instructions to apprentice B. Wheeler were to be positive from the barriers and take up a forward position. He added that he was surprised given the instructions to see IN EVIDENCE settling at the rear of the field. Stewards advised apprentice Wheeler to be mindful of instructions that are issued and in their opinion, he had erred in making the decision to restrain as early as he did on this occasion.
 
CONEY ISLAND BABY – Over raced during the early stages. Passing the 1100m, had to be restrained to avoid the heels of ALL VALOUR which shifted in when insufficiently clear to do so. Jockey K. Matheson, rider of ALL VALOUR, pled guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) and his license to ride in races was suspended for eight days commencing at midnight the 14th of October 2023 and ending at midnight the 22nd of October 2023. Jockey Matheson was advised of his rights of appeal.
 
RED DEFCON – Slow to begin.
 
CHAMPAGNE BENDER – Began awkwardly. Passing the 1100m, had to be restrained from heels. Continued to over race during the middle stages. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
 
SHADOW CRUISER – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 5: SKY RACING BENCHMARK 80 HANDICAP 1830 Metres
 
THE RITZ – Stewards acceded a late request from trainer M. Morrison for THE RITZ to race without a nasal strip in today’s event.
 
FIFTH POSITION (IRE) – Slow to begin.
 
BAANONE (NZ) – Leaving the 600m, had to be steadied when awkwardly placed between runners.
 
KRONENBOURG (NZ) – Rider J. Orman reported that after beginning only fairly, and being caught wide early he allowed the gelding to stride forward to take up a position outside the leader near the 1300m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
TAPILDOODLEDO (NZ) – Began awkwardly, shifted out abruptly almost dislodging its rider. Rider M. Du Plessis reported at scale that the gelding had a tendency to lay in throughout. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying clinical signs of the thumps and also to be stepping short. Trainer Mr K. Taplin advised that he would report back to Stewards in the coming days on the recovery of TAPILDOODLEDO. Mr Taplin was advised by Stewards that a warning would be placed on the gelding for its racing manners at the beginning of the event.
 
BLACKCOMB – Slow to begin. Passing the 1000m, had to be steadied when placed in restricted room to the inside of BAANONE which laid in. Apprentice J. Molloy was advised to take greater care when allowing his mounts to shift ground.
 
 
Race 6: DRINKWISE BENCHMARK 75 HANDICAP 1200 Metres
 
POCKET FULL – Over raced during the middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BITCOIN BABY – Over raced during the middle stages. Leaving the 1000m, momentarily inconvenienced by HE’S HEAVEN which shifted out when over racing.
 
FIVE OXFORD – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority.
 
DAYTONA – Approaching the 150m, had to be eased when awkwardly placed at the heels of POCKET FULL which shifted in under pressure. Apprentice B. Wheeler was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. When asked to comment on the performance of DAYTONA, jockey J. Orman stated that he wasn’t overly disappointed with the performance of the gelding and thought it may be better suited to being ridden with cover.
 
HE'S HEAVEN – Slow to begin. Passing the 1000m, commenced to over race when the pace of the race slackened. Continued to over race during the middle stages. Improved on heels at the 600m and had to be steadied. Approaching the 100m improved on heels and was obliged to shift outwards to secure clear running.
 
MAYA BAY – Passing the 500m, had to be steadied when becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of HE’S HEAVEN. Rider C. Graham dropped her whip passing the 300m.  
 
OUTLAWED – Began awkwardly.
 
 
Race 7: ROAD TO MAGIC MILLIONS ON SALE NOW CLASS 3 PLATE 1500 Metres
 
CUSACK – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
 
EAGLES CRAG (IRE) – Stewards permitted an application from co-trainer S. O’Dea for the gelding to race without a bit lifter which was part of its advertised gear. Mr O’Dea was reprimanded pursuant to AR206(3). Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.  
 
I AM THE EMPIRE (IRE) – Stable representative T. Pollard advised of a change of tactics in that the gelding will be ridden further back from the wide barrier. Ridden accordingly. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and obliged to shift wider to improve. Raced in restricted room for a number of strides passing the 200m before obtaining clear running.
 
CORONA LAD – Raced wide throughout. Laid out rounding home turn then shifted out and continued to shift wider when being struck by the whip before being corrected by its rider.
 
LARAINA – Began awkwardly and contacted the outside barrier partition.
 
LOLLY YEATS (IRE) – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early stages. Laid in and bumped the hindquarters of IRON GRACE leaving the 400m. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with the stable in subsequent days regarding the performance of the mare.
 
POETIC DRAMA (NZ) – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
 
RUSSIAN WARRIOR – Approaching the 1100m, had to be steadied when becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of ROCK TOGETHER. Over raced during the middle stages.
 
SUNSET SOIREE – Steadied momentarily approaching the 200m when racing in restricted room. Rider J. Orman reported that the mare would appreciate a step up in trip and was not suited by the tempo of the race today. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
BROSNAN – Rider J. Lloyd stated that in his opinion, the gelding wasn’t able to improve into the race when he would have liked leaving the 600m, however, finished the race off fairly in the home straight and was not disappointing in its effort.  
 
IRON GRACE – Trainer S. Morrisey advised of a change of tactics in that the mare will be ridden in a more forward position from the wide barrier. Settled in a midfield position. Raced wide throughout. Leaving the 400m bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced. Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 250m when awkwardly placed at the heels of LOLLY YEATS which laid in before being corrected by its rider.
 
FINSCEAL – Jumped awkwardly.
 
 
Race 8: XXXX QUEENSLAND CUP 2400 Metres
 
KING FRANKEL (IRE) – Approaching the home turn, when attempting to shift out to secure clear running bumped with DESERT ICON for a number of strides. Raced in restricted room approaching the 300m before shifting out and bumping with DESERT ICON for a number of strides.  
 
DESERT ICON (FR) – Bumped approaching the home turn. Bumped in the home straight by KING FRANKEL on a number of occasions.
 
FANCY MAN (IRE) – Apprentice B. Wheeler was fined $400 under AR131(c) for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post. Apprentice B. Wheeler was also fined $300 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on eight occasions prior to the winning post.  
 
PARRY SOUND – Bumped on jumping. Jockey R. Dolan was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on six occasions prior to the 100m.
 
TAPPY'S LAD (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
SAYL (GB) – Raced wide during the early stages.
 
OSTERMEIER – Stood flatfooted as the start was effected.  Co-trainer T. Sweeney was advised that a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of gelding.
 
ELVEENA – Trainer R. Severino advised of a change in tactics in that the mare would be ridden forward from the wide barrier if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly.
 
SOOBPURB DANCER – Began awkwardly and bumped PARRY SOUND.
 
WHISTLE HOFF – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 9: XXXX GOLD CLASS 6 HANDICAP 1400 Metres
 
NED'S GULLY – Approaching the 350m, laid in and bumped CHATTY LADY and became unbalanced.
 
STARSPANGLED RODEO – Slow to begin. Over raced during the middle stages. Passing the 600m, had to be restrained after improving onto the heels of RELEASE THE BEANS.
 
CHATTY LADY – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Bumped on the hindquarters leaving the 350m.
 
MOB BUSTER – Over raced throughout. Passing the 800m, had to be steadied off the heels of CHATTY LADY whilst over racing. Continued to race fiercely for a number of strides thereafter. Approaching the 100m, raced in restricted room for a number of strides to the inside of CHATTY LADY and was obliged to shift wider to improve.
 
BRIARS KINGDOM – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Passing the 150m raced in restricted room for a number of strides.
 
STAR OF CHAOS – Raced wide throughout.
 
OUTBURST – Slow to begin. Approaching the 150m, improved onto heels and was obliged to shift out to secure clear running.
 
 
Race 10: CANADIAN CLUB OPEN 1400 Metres
 
BONAPARTE – Raced wide during the early stages.
 
RANCH HAND – Approaching the 1300m, raced in restricted room and was buffeted for a number of strides by ANIMATE which had improved to the inside of CANADIAN DANCER. Jockey J. Lloyd, the rider of CANADIAN DANCER, was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for failing to relieve pressure to his inside runners. Approaching the 1100m, raced in restricted room to the inside of STARVIRGO which was awkwardly placed at the heels of ANIMATE. Raced wide throughout. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying a poor post race recovery.
 
STEELY – Raced wide throughout.
 
ANIMATE – Raced in restricted room and was taken inwards near the 1300m by CANADIAN DANCER. Raced wide throughout.
 
MISSISSIPPI PRINCE – As the tongue tie was unable to be fitted due to the gelding’s pre-race mannerisms, Stewards allowed the gelding to race without this piece of advertised gear.
 
NOAH 'N' A DEEL – Slow to begin.
 
CANADIAN DANCER – When asked to comment on the performance, jockey J. Lloyd stated that the mare raced keenly during the middle stages and when asked for an effort in the home straight was disappointing in its finishing effort. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Co-trainer S. O’Dea advised Stewards that the stable may give consideration to sending the mare for a spell.
