GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweights:
Race 4: R. Maloney +0.5kg

Race 1: CANADIAN CLUB CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1000 Metres
 
PACIFIC VAMPIRE – Slow to begin. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
PERFECT MISSION – Lost the near fore plate.
 
RING OF STEEL – Began awkwardly. Over raced during the middle stages. Raced wide from the 600m. Laid out from the 500m until entering the home straight. Apprentice C. Graham couldn’t offer any explanation for the disappointing performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
TENGUN READY – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
BULSARA – Raced in restricted room for a number of strides passing the 800m.
 
 
Race 2: STRONGER AT AQUIS QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1000 Metres
 
MYTHBUSTA – Raced wide throughout. Trainer R. Tyrell advised Stewards that MYTHBUSTA would now be sent for a spell and would also be gelded.
 
DEVINE FORCE – Shifted out abruptly approaching the winning post.
 
MISHANI OPAL – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
ENDING SWEET – A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer T. Gollan was advised that ENDING SWEET would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
VIALE – Began awkwardly. Passing the 500m, severely hampered by CUTTING EDGE and had to be restrained from heels.
 
MISHANI CROWN – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Approaching the 500m, raced in restricted room and was momentarily inconvenienced.
 
CUTTING EDGE – Began awkwardly. Raced greenly throughout. Passing the 600m commenced to hang out whilst over racing and after being corrected by its rider, shifted back in, severely hampering VIALE. Obliged to alter course passing the 50m when awkwardly placed on the heels of MISHANI EXPRESS. Lost the off hind plate in running. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Co-trainer Mr T. Sears was advised that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of the colt.
 
MISHANI EXPRESS – Passing the 50m, was obliged to alter course when awkwardly placed on the heels of DEVINE FORCE which shifted out.
 
 
Race 3: MACMAHON CLASS 6 HANDICAP 1825 Metres
 
QUALITY TIME (GER) – Over raced during the middle stages. Was obliged to steady and shift out in an attempt to improve near the 300m. Passing the 150m raced in restricted room between ROUSSEAU and PHAISTOS.
 
ROUSSEAU – Slow to begin. Laid out throughout the event. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
FIFTH POSITION (IRE) – Began awkwardly.
 
BLACKLOG (NZ) – Was severely hampered passing the 300m when racing in restricted room after ROUSSEAU shifted in, carrying QUALITY TIME inwards. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained a minor laceration to the off fore pastern.
 
EARLY THOUGHTS – Shifted out under pressure passing the 300m.
 
KIPLING'S JOURNEY – Began awkwardly.
 
 
Race 4: HIGGINS COATINGS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1400 Metres
 
WEIGALL TIGER – Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight.
 
BONDED AFFAIR – Began awkwardly and shifted in onto ZIN ZAN READY. Laid out under pressure in the home straight, and after being corrected passing the 200m, commenced to lay in for the remainder of the event.
 
BOOMING LAD – Stable advised of a change of tactics in that the gelding will be ridden further back in the field if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. Shifted out on jumping and bumped ZIN ZAN READY. Over raced during the early and middle stages. Passing the 1000m had to be restrained off the heels of FELIX THE SCAT.
 
CHANGE THE DEEL – As R. Maloney was overweight, he was replaced by J. Bayliss. Jockey Maloney was fined $200 pursuant to AR190(3). Slow to begin. Over raced during the early stages. Passing the 1200m became awkwardly placed on heels and had to be restrained.
 
ZIN ZAN READY – Hampered on jumping. Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 5: PADUA COLLEGE NO METRO WINS HANDICAP  1400 Metres
 
MAGIC CHARLEE – A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
CALM SEEKER (NZ) – Bumped with BANDIT shortly after the start. Approaching the 1200m, checked to avoid the heels of BOODUA ROMANCE which shifted in when not clear. At inquiry, jockey G. Cartwright, rider of BOODUA ROMANCE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for shifting in approaching the 1200m when not clear of CALM SEEKER (M. Castle) causing that horse to check to avoid heels and lose its rightful running. Jockey Cartwright’s license to ride in races was suspended for 14 days commencing at midnight the 12th of November 2023 and ending at midnight the 26th of November 2023. Jockey Cartwright was advised of her rights of appeal. Shifted out at the 800m and raced wide for the remainder of the event.
 
MEDIA MAN – Slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying a poor post race recovery and lost the near hind plate in running.
 
REVONTULET – Began awkwardly.
 
TOO HARD TO REFUSE – Raced in restricted room over the final 100m.
 
FENTON – Jockey M. Du Plessis reported at scale that his mount was inclined to hang out throughout. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
 
Race 6: THIS IS CROSER BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP  1300 Metres
 
VENDIDIT – Began awkwardly.
 
WHY WE DRINK – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
FUN SPONGE – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying a slow post race recovery.
 
MADAME ODETTE – Raced wide throughout.
 
JUST SUPER – Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight.
 
TERRAMEADES – Passing the 1200m, had to be restrained to avoid the heels of WHY WE DRINK which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.  
 
APRIL IN AUGUSTA – When questioned regarding the mare leading in today’s event, apprentice C. Graham stated that she anticipated settling in a worse than midfield position, however after beginning well her mount was able to find in a leading position without being asked for an effort. She added that at a point approaching the 800m, after it became apparent that no other runner was going to improve to take up a leading position, she elected to allow the mare to lead and not to obtain cover. Trainer K. Schweida confirmed the instructions provided to apprentice Graham and was surprised to see the mare leading and would give consideration into the instructions provided at APRIL IN AUGUSTA’s next start and potentially leading in future starts.
 
DRAFT DAY (NZ) – Raced in restricted room passing the 1200m.
 
PAIENBARA – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 7: CHANNEL 7 BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP  1600 Metres
 
POETIC DRAMA (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
 
FINSCEAL – Slow to begin.
 
TENZING (NZ) – Shifted out abruptly over the concluding stages.
 
COLLEAGUES (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
 
ESKY (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 8: LADBROKE IT! OPEN QUALITY HANDICAP  1400 Metres
 
ANIMATE – Shifted in on jumping.
 
JETTY – Began awkwardly.

STAR OF MICHELIN – Slow to begin.
 
THE VOWELS – A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
EKATERINA – Laid out under pressure before being corrected by its rider approaching the 100m.
 
COULDN'T REFUSE – Passing the 150m, had to be restrained to avoid the heels of ANIMATE which shifted out whilst under riding. At inquiry, jockey J. Byrne, rider of ANIMATE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that he allowed his mount to shift ground when insufficiently clear of COULDN’T REFUSE (S. Collett). Jockey Byrne’s license to ride in races was suspended for eight days commencing midnight the 13th of November 2023 and ending at midnight the 21st of November 2023. Jockey Byrne was advised of his rights of appeal.
 
LORD MARKEL (NZ) - Over raced during the early and middle stages.
 
 
Race 9: XXXX BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP  1200 Metres
 
GO WANDJI – Underwent a pre race veterinary examination after not racing for a significant period of time and cleared to start. Began awkwardly. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight and obliged to shift in to improve.
 
GREYWORM – Laid in during the early and middle stages.
 
MANHOOD – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
STARVIRGO – Began awkwardly.
 
GENZAI THE WOLF – Approaching the 1000m, had to be restrained to avoid the heels of NASHIRA which shifted in before being corrected by its rider. Jockey B. Thompson was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
