GENERAL
As P. Hammersley was indisposed and not riding at today’s meeting, rider changes were made as per the Race Day Summary.
 
Race 1: SEASON GREETINGS FROM BRC QTIS TWO-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE  1000 M
 
ITALIAN DANCER – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages. Passing the 800m, had to be steadied after improving onto heels. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Shifted in over the concluding stages before being corrected by its rider.
 
AQUATEMPO – Passing the 200m was obliged to alter course and shift wider to improve into clear running.
 
DREAMDROP – Began awkwardly. Approaching the winning post, shifted in and away from ITALIAN DANCER and became unbalanced.
 
MISHANI EXPRESS – Attempted to buck after the start. Raced wide throughout. Passing the 200m, shifted in and bumped with TIME TO CRY on a number of occasions. Trainer L. Ross was advised that MISHANI EXPRESS is required to gain a further barrier certificate in race day gear prior to next start.
 
TIME TO CRY – Passing the 200m, shifted out and bumped with MISHANI EXPRESS on several occasions.
 
MISHANI UNLAWFUL – Slow to begin.
 
Race 2: BECOME A BRC MEMBER QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE  1600 M
 
BORN FEARLESS – Over raced in the middle stages. Passing the 600m, became awkwardly placed at the heels of CENTRAL PARK when trying to shift out into clear running.
 
CENTRAL PARK – Bumped on jumping. Leaving the 1400m, had to ease to avoid the heels of O’POLLY which shifted in. Apprentice M. Castle, rider of O’POLLY was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for shifting in when insufficiently clear. Passing the 1100m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SAY RAIN which shifted in. Jockey A. Jones, rider of SAY RAIN was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for shifting in when insufficiently clear.
 
CYPHER PRINCE – Bumped heavily on jumping.
 
SAY RAIN – Bumped on jumping. Passing the 300m was momentarily inconvenienced after becoming awkwardly placed at the heels of YEAH COPY.
 
SHARMAN PETE – Laid out under pressure in the home straight and approaching the winning post shifted out abruptly.
 
LADY PARVATI – Severely hampered after the start and lost ground.
 
O'POLLY – Shifted in abruptly on jumping and bumped heavily with CYPHER PRINCE.
 
Race 3: AQUIS THE HOME OF 2YO SPEED MAIDEN HANDICAP  1846 M
 
TARANAKI (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
ELROY – Raced wide early.
 
AQUA ROSA – Raced wide early until approaching the 900m.
 
WHOLELOTTATAPIN (NZ) – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer K. Taplin was advised WHOLELOTTATAPIN (NZ) would incur a metropolitan ban until its form improves at provincial meetings.
 
JAM PACKED – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight and was obliged to shift out wider to improve.
 
DELORME – Had to be resaddled on arrival to the barriers.
 
Race 4: DOREEN BIRD CLASS 1 HANDICAP  1846 M
 
The start of this race was delayed owing to ROYAL RIFT requiring farrier attention behind the barriers. After the farrier was unable to reshod ROYAL RIFT, permission was granted to race with uneven behind.
 
ROYAL RIFT (IRE) – Began awkwardly.
 
SON OF SATONO (NZ) – When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey M. Rodd stated that his mount raced keenly in the early stages and in his opinion SON OF SATONO (NZ) would benefit from a drop back in distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
FREE CARRY – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
VICTORIA ROC (NZ) – Approaching the 1300m commenced to over race when being restrained to allow FREE CARRY to shift in, and as a result shifted wider.
 
IMPENDING ROSE – Slow to begin. When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey J. Bayliss stated that in his opinion IMPENDING ROSE would benefit from a drop back in distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery. Trainer P. Butterworth advised Stewards that the filly would now be going for a spell.
 
Race 5: XXXX GOLD 0 - 65 HANDICAP  1000 M
 
UNO MOON – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ENABLER – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Had difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 300m and was obliged to shift wider. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
CONSENZA – Raced wide throughout.
 
ALAKAI SWAMP – Fractious in the barriers and as a result jumped away awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
 
Race 6: MAGIC MILLIONS CLASS 2 HANDICAP  1400 M
 
TARPS – Trainer S. Morrisey advised Stewards of a change of tactics that TARPS would be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. Over raced in the early and middle stages passing the 1000m and had to be restrained from the heels of MIXED SPICE when the pace of the race slackened. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Passing the 400m, attempted to improve into a run where there was insufficient room to do so between READY AZZ EVA and GOOMERI and as a result had to be restrained and shifted wider.
 
GOOMERI – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in its near foreleg. Trainer M. Dunn was advised GOOMERI would require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
 
WESTERN SPRINGS (NZ) – Had to be restrained from the heels of TARPS passing the 1000m when the pace of the race slackened. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight, approaching the 300m shifted out in an attempt to improve into a run between MIXED SPICE and REEANON, when doing so, Jockey J. Bayliss dropped his inside rein before shortly regathering. Shortly thereafter, the run began to close after REEANON commenced to shift in and MIXED SPICE shifted out. Both riders were reminded of their obligations to stop and straighten their mounts. As a result, was held up for clear running and not tested to the run to the finish.
 
DRIALLE – Slow to begin.
 
FRAPPES – Trainer P. Barron advised Stewards of a change of tactics that FRAPPES would be ridden with cover if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. Bumped after start. Raced wide with cover.
 
MIXED SPICE – Approaching the 100m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of TIGER FOR LIFE which shifted out under riding. Jockey A. Jones, rider of TIGER OF LIFE was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident.
 
REEANON – Began awkwardly and bumped with FRAPPES after the start. Raced wide throughout. Raced in restricted room for a number of strides inside the final 100m.
 
CAVAUP – Raced wide throughout.
 
TIGER FOR LIFE – Over raced during the middle stages.
 
WHISKY DREAM – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
 
Race 7: LADBROKES BET TICKER BM68 HANDICAP  1600 M
 
MOCAMBO – Held up rounding the home turn.
 
LAUNCH PAD – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early and middle stages. Laid in throughout the event.
 
BULLION BOY – Obliged to shift in passing the 300m to improve into clear running. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Approaching the 200m dropped his rein before regathering it shortly after.
 
SEMAPHORE GIRL – Over raced in the early stages of the event.
 
SHOPPING WISE – Jockey B. Thornton reported he became concerned with the gelding’s action in the home straight and elected to not pressure his mount over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer J. Bellamy advised Stewards that he would report back in the following days regarding the gelding’s condition.
 
SPEED MAP – Trainer P. Barron advised Stewards of a change of tactics and SPEED MAP would be ridden further back if circumstances permit. Settled midfield.
