SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
Gold Coast - Saturday 13 January 2024 - MAGIC MILLIONS 2YO CLASSIC:
WOLFGANG – connections advised Stewards the colt has pulled up with muscle soreness. The intention is to give him a freshen up and continue with his campaign.
 
GENERAL
Race 6: SUBSTANTIAL (GB) – As Jockey R. Maloney was unable to fulfill his engagement, he was replaced by R. Dolan as the rider ofSUBSTANTIAL (GB). Jockey R. Maloney was fined $300 pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride when found to be overweight.
 
Race 1: RACECOURSE VILLAGE QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP  1200M
 
COMMANDING ARTIST – Connections advised a change of tactics, to be ridden behind the pace if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly.
 
MINGARDOS (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
MISHANI CROWN – Bumped shortly after the start.
 
THAT'S INTERESTING – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early and middle stages. Leaving the 300m became awkward whilst weakening. Jockey J. Stanley reported the filly over raced in the early and middle stages and in his opinion may have choked down. Rider J. Stanley advised connections to consider the addition of a tongue tie to the filly’s race gear. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly have a slow post-race recovery. Trainer L. Wanless advised it was his intention to send the filly for a spell and he would consider applying a tongue tie upon resuming racing.
 
DREAM SMART – Bumped shortly after the start. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey R. Dolan stated it wasn’t his intention to race in a forward position, however after beginning well he elected to take up a forward position rather than being caught wide.
 
MISHANI UNLAWFUL – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
Race 2: STRADBROKE SEASON ON SALE 22 JANUARY BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP   2400M
 
ROGUE BEAR (IRE) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting clinical signs of mild heat stress.
 
IOWA (IRE) – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
TAPPY'S LAD (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
DENILIQUIN – Slow to begin. When asked to comment regarding the performance, Jockey M. Rodd reported the gelding was unsuited by the tempo of the event, did not let down as expected in the home straight and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a laceration to its right hock.
 
HARBELLE – Slow to begin.
 
SILVER WARRIOR (SAF) – Commenced to give ground from the 600m and finished a distant last. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting clinical signs of heat stress and a poor recovery. Trainer A. Campton advised Stewards that he would have his stable veterinarian examine the gelding in the following days and would report back if anything was to be found that may have a bearing on the performance. He further added that SILVER WARRIOR (SAF) would also be sent for a spell. Stewards advised Mr Campton that the gelding would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to being permitted to start again.
 
SIR LORD – Had a tendency to lay in throughout the event. Jockey E. Chaves reported his mount was inclined to lay in.
 
Race 3: GIRLS DAY OUT ON SALE NOW QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1300M
 
BOLD COMIC – Over raced in the early and middle stages. When asked to comment regarding the tactics adopted in particular settling in a forward position, Apprentice J. Franklin stated that he had intended to position with cover behind the leading division, however, when inside runners failed to show sufficient speed and rather than being caught wide, he elected to allow the gelding to stride forward and assume a leading position. He further added BOLD COMIC tended to over race and was disappointing in its finishing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be experiencing a slow post-race recovery. Stewards will follow up with Trainer G. Taylor regarding the horse’s condition.
 
RINGER'S REWARD– Raced wide with cover throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
FORTUNEER – Raced wide with cover throughout.
 
JUKEBOX IN SIBERIA – Over raced in the early stages. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
 
HE'S FOR THE GIRLS – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early stages.  Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey M. Harley was fined $200 pursuant to AR211(1) for returning to scale in excess of 0.5kg overweight. In determining penalty, Stewards considered M. Harley’s explementary record regarding this rule.
 
PAYLINE – Over raced in the early and middle stages. When asked to comment on the tactics adopted in particular settling in a forward position, Jockey R. Dolan stated that after beginning fairly he pressured the gelding in an attempt to find a position with cover behind the leading division, however, PAYLINE commenced to over race and proved difficult to settle and as a consequence, he was obliged to race without cover outside the leader. He further added that the gelding over raced for the majority of the event which had a detrimental effect on its finishing performance. Trainer C. Munce concurred with the comments of R. Dolan and advised that the gelding would be better ridden with cover. He further added that he would advise Stewards in the subsequent days regarding the condition of PAYLINE and its recovery. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting clinical signs of heat stress.
 
ALLOW ME– Bumped shortly after the start. Leaving the 100m, was obliged to shift inwards to secure clear running after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of CONEY ISLAND BABY. 
 
CONEY ISLAND BABY – Over raced in the early stages. Raced in restricted room for a short distance leaving the 700m. Approaching the 600m, had to be steadied when becoming momentarily awkward at the heels of FORTUNEER.
 
REVITUP CHARLIE – Over raced in the early stages.
 
Race 4: MOUNT FRANKLIN BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP  1000M
 
THE BILLIONAIRE – Slow to begin.
 
BILLY'S BRO – Began awkwardly.
 
BARISTASISTA – Raced wide throughout.
 
MASTER MAURICE – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment regarding the performance, Jockey R. Maloney stated the gelding raced greenly and had a tendency to lay in for the majority of the home straight.
 
OUR RED PLANET – Approaching the 200m, improved onto the heels of THE BILLIONAIRE and was obliged to steady and shift outwards.
 
Race 5: LADBROKES COMMUNITIES BENCHMARK 72 HANDICAP  1805M
 
KORUTO – Shifted out under pressure over the final 100m.
 
CHAYSE 'N' ARTIE – Held up leaving the 400m and was obliged to shift in to secure clear running. Raced in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 100m.
 
CLYDE – Over raced in the early stages.
 
WHY WE DRINK – Approaching the 1600m, laid in slightly and blundered after clipping  the heels of BINDING when that runner shifted out marginally when being steadied. Raced wide until leaving the 1200m.
 
BINDING – When being steadied approaching the 1600m, shifted out marginally. Jockey S. Collett reported her mount tended to hang out in the early stages.
 
MOCAMBO – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to a small amount of blood found to be in its mouth from a minor abrasion. The gelding was subsequently cleared to start. Slow to begin.
 
MOKTAFFY (IRE) – Held up for clear running approaching the 600m. Approaching the 350m was obliged to shift inwards to secure clear running. When questioned, Jockey J. Orman reported he could offer no explanation regarding the gelding’s performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to being exhibiting clinical signs of the thumps.

NO GOING BAC – Apprentice T. Fenlon advised the gelding over raced when leading and also in her opinion would appreciate a step back in distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
YANGARI – Shifted out and bumped CLYDE rounding the home turn.
 
FLEUR DU MONDE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
Race 6: CONGRATULATIONS BARRY BALDWIN CLASS 6 PLATE    1400M
 
OLAKAU'ATU – Jockey A. Thompson reported the gelding did not feel entirely comfortable in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.   
 
SUBSTANTIAL (GB) – Held up approaching the home turn. Became awkward at the heels of PETUNIA shortly after entering the home straight after that runner shifted outwards. Jockey B. Thompson rider of PETUNIA was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
Race 7: SKY RACING BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP         1200M
 
OVIDIUS– Approaching the 1000m, steadied from the heels of CELESTIAL SOL which shifted in when not fully clear and then commenced to race fearlessly for a short distance. Apprentice C. Waddell rider of CELESTIAL SOL was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground. Raced wide throughout. 
 
MAHBABY– Hampered shortly after the start. Approaching the 200m, improved onto the heels of OVIDIUS and had to be steadied. Had difficulty securing clear running over the final 100m.
 
EMPEROR – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide with cover throughout.
 
BOLD AND LUCY – Raced wide with cover throughout.
 
CRAZY TRAIN – Held up rounding the home turn until approaching the 300m.
 
AMITY GAL – Over raced in the middle stages.
 
JAMAICAN RUMBA – Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. 
 
REDZOUST – Began awkwardly.
 
Race 8: LADBROKE IT! BENCHMARK 72 HANDICAP         1400M
 
MICRO – Over raced in the early stages. Steadied from heels leaving the 1100m. Obliged to alter course at the 300m to secure clear running.
 
SIR LAMORAK (IRE) – Crowded shortly after the start.
 
PATTON – Began awkwardly contacting the barrier petition. Over raced in the early and middle stages when the pace of the race was only fair.
 
TEXAS (NZ) – Slow to begin. Raced wide with cover throughout.
 
STORM THE FORTRESS – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off-hind leg. Trainer T. Edmonds was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing or trialling again.
 
TRIBECA STAR – Shifted out under pressure approaching the 150m and brushed with MOONAN ME.
 
MOONAN ME – Raced wide throughout. Brushed by TRIBECA STAR approaching the 150m.
 
READY AZZ EVA – Approaching the 1100m, became awkwardly placed at heels and had to be restrained when the pace of the race steadied. Over raced in the early and middle stage.
 
HELLAVADANCER – Raced wide until leaving the 1000m.
 
SIGOURNEY (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
 
NICKELBACK – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination as the gelding arrived late on-course due to transport delays; subsequently cleared to start. Over raced in the early and middle stages. Steadied from heels at the 600m.
 
 
Race 9: XXXX BENCHMARK 90 HANDICAP  1200M
 
The start of this race was delayed as a result of TICK TOCK QUEEN refusing to load and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 5:15pm. On the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all bets on TICK TOCK QUEEN to be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
1st - ON THE LEAD – 24c win, 18c place.
2nd - DAYTONA BAY – 20c place.
3rd - NAVAS TWO – 17c place.
 
Trainer T. Gollan was advised TICKTOCK QUEEN would be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
 
HOT SPRING GOLD – Slow to begin.
 
LA AMIGO – Raced wide throughout. Inconvenienced and taken wider approaching the 500m.
 
NAVAS TWO – Bumped at the start. Laid in and became awkward at heels approaching the 500m.
 
RISING – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination as the gelding arrived late on-course due to transport delays; subsequently cleared to start.
 
IRING – Slow to begin.
 
MR GALAZI – Bumped at the start. Jockey G. Cartwright reported that in her opinion the gelding did not run out the 1200m and would be better suited to races of a shorter distance than that of today’s event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
Race 10: DRINKWISE BENCHMARK 90 HANDICAP         1600M
 
TREVELYAN – Connections advised a change of tactics, to be ridden in a slightly more forward position than its previous starts. Began awkwardly and as a result settled in a rearward position.  Apprentice M. Castle was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip six (6) times prior to the 100m, one (1) more than permitted.
 
ROUSSEAU – A pre-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 4:46pm on veterinary advice. Stable representative B. Killion was advised ROUSSEAU would require veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
 
TARA JASMINE – Raced keenly in the middle stages.
