GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweights:
Race 8. D. Smith +1kg

Race 1: GIRLS DAY OUT ON SALE NOW CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1600 Metres

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards considered an objection by apprentice C. Graham, rider of second placegetter REGAL POM, against the winner VENDIDIT, ridden by M. Du Plessis, alleging interference over the final 100m. Stewards ascertained that inside the final 100m, VENDIDIT commenced to shift in and passing the 70m, shifted inside the running line of REGAL POM causing that runner to shift in marginally.  After considering the evidence of connections including the degree of interference, the proximity to the winning post and how both runners finished off the race, Stewards could not been comfortably satisfied that should the interference not have occurred that REGAL POM would have finished in front of VENDITIT and therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the judges’ semaphored numbers.

REGAL POM – Raced keenly during the early stages. Brushed by VENDIDIT near the 100m.

VENDIDIT – Approaching the 150m, shifted in and brushed REGAL POM. Jockey M. Du Plessis was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground in future.

TOP SPY – Near the 600m, became awkward in its action and lost ground. When questioned regarding the performance, jockey M. Harley stated that after the mare became awkward in its action rounding the home turn, he had concerns with TOP SPY and elected not to place his mount under pressure in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer G. Green was advised that TOP SPY must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.

FEEASHIN MOON – Approaching the 800m, checked from the heels of MAGIC ISLAND. Jockey M. Rodd, rider of MAGIC ISLAND, pled guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that near the 900m he allowed his mount to cross to the lead when not fully clear of FEEASHIN MOON resulting in that horse having to be checked. Jockey Rodd’s license to ride in races was suspended for seven (7) days commencing at midnight the 27th of January 2024 until midnight the 3rd of February 2024.

A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer’s representative for the J. Bruce stable was advised that the filly will be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
