STEWARDS REPORT BRISBANE RACING CLUB EAGLE FARM SATURDAY 17 FEBRAUARY 2024 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Heavy (8); Soft (7) @11.20am RAIL – +5M EntirePENETROMETER – 5.96 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – J. AdamsStewards – J. Williamson, A. Schofield, S. Heidke GENERALStewards permitted the following overweights:Race 2. R. Spokes +1kg Race 5. M. Rodd +0.5kg Race 1: GIRLS DAY OUT 2 MARCH BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1000 Metres HIDDEN WEALTH – Began awkwardly. Over raced during the early stages. Bumped with SIR CARTER on a number of occasions passing the 200m. Held up for clear running near the 400m. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. RUBINOCCHI – Due to transport difficulties, apprentice J. Molloy was replaced by apprentice C. Graham. ISLAND MAGIC – Began awkwardly and was slow into stride. When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice B. Wheeler reported that after beginning awkwardly he had to make use of his mount to maintain a position in the early stages. He added that his mount failed to respond when placed under pressure in the home straight, and in hindsight the mare may have benefitted to be ridden colder in a more rearward position to allow a better finishing effort. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. APOPHIS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Over raced during the early stages. SIR CARTER – Began awkwardly. Passing the 600m, commenced to over race after being crossed. Passing the 200m, bumped with HIDDEN WEALTH on a number of occasions. INSTAGOOD – Laid in throughout. Raced wide throughout. Approaching the 500m, momentarily inconvenienced and carried wider on the track by HIDDEN WEALTH when that horse shifted out to improve. Passing the 150m momentarily inconvenienced and obliged to alter course after APOPHIS shifted in under pressure. Race 2: STRADBROKE SEASON ON SALE NOW CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1825 Metres AIN'T HE GRAND – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice B. Wheeler was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on six occasions prior to the 100m. ELLA TE AMA – Underwent a post race veterinary examination which revealed no abnormalities. Trainer’s representative M. Eggleston advised that in his opinion, the mare may not have appreciated the interstate travel in such humid conditions and he will report back to Stewards on condition of ELLA TE AMA in the coming days. BELLA TIVACI (NZ) – Momentarily held up for clear running on entering the home straight. IRISH KNIGHT (NZ) – Slow to begin. Over raced during the early stages. Race 3: MOUNT FRANKLIN BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 2200 Metres IOWA (IRE) – Approaching the 150m had to be restrained whilst weakening to avoid the heels of FLYING JOY which shifted out after riding. Apprentice C. Graham, rider of FLYING JOY, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future. When asked to comment on the disappointing performance, apprentice B. Wheeler stated that he may have set too steady a tempo and the gelding did not let down as expected. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. CHAYSE 'N' ARTIE – When asked to comment on the poor performance, jockey B. Thornton stated that being back in the field with the slow tempo of the race didn’t suit the gelding. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. CHERNAK (FR) – Passing the 50m had to be restrained after improving onto the heels of DEMARCAY. When asked to comment on the performance of the gelding, jockey J. Orman stated that CHERNAK travelled comfortably throughout however was left flat footed when the pace quickened at the 600m and was disappointing in its finishing effort. DENILIQUIN – Began awkwardly. Restrained after improving onto heels passing the 1800m. Shortly thereafter, had to be checked after improving onto heels of DEMARCAY. As a result was obliged to shift wider. FLYING JOY – Began awkwardly. SIR LAMORAK (IRE) – Bumped with BEDFORD SQUARE on jumping. UNCOMMON VALOUR – Commenced to buck for a short distance after the start resulting on the rider’s saddle shifting back. Trainer M. Nolan was advised that UNCOMMON VALOUR must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again. CLYDE – Slow to begin and shortly afterwards had to be restrained off the heels of SIR LAMORAK. Passing the 1600m was forced wider by DENILIQUIN which shifted out when taking evasive action resulting in CLYDE racing three wide before striding forward to take up a position outside the lead. Race 4: XXXX FILLIES AND MARES BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 1200 Metres BUBBA'S BAY – Commenced to over race when being crossed passing the 800m and shortly thereafter the pace of the race slackened. Jockey R. Dolan, rider of BARISTASISTA, was advised to exercise greater care in future. BOLD AND LUCY – Began awkwardly. BONCASSIE – Raced wide throughout. SABALENKA (NZ) – Shifted out passing the 600m before commencing to over race and as a result raced wide for the remainder of the event. BARISTASISTA – Forced wider on the track passing the 800m. Race 5: THANKS BRC MEMBERS CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200 Metres HOUSTON ROCKET – Slow to begin. ANTONITO (NZ) – Raced wide throughout. Over raced during the early stages. MAGIC ISLAND – Jockey M. Rodd reported at scale that the filly may have made a respiratory noise in running. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Trainer R. Heathcote was advised to report back on the post race condition of the filly. MISS BACALL (NZ) – Began awkwardly and bumped CLAUDIUS. Raced wide throughout. IRON GRACE – Approaching the 100m was obliged to alter course to improve into clear running. BLAZING LOVE – Raced wide throughout. Laid in and became awkwardly on place on heels on entering the home straight. Jockey R. Dolan reported at scale that the mare became awkward in its action. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. HELLO IN THERE – Became awkwardly placed on heels on entering the home straight and obliged to shift wider. STELLAR LADY – Over raced during the early stages. Shortly after entering the home straight obliged to alter course to improve into clear running. Jockey N. Beriman was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(5) for using her whip on fifteen occasions in totality. CLAUDIUS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Over raced during the early and middle stages. Race 6: MAGIC MILLIONS 11-13 MARCH COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 1200 Metres REJOICED – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. RALPHIE – Over raced during the early stages. Jockey B. Thornton when asked to comment on the performance, stated that the tempo didn’t suit and the gelding had a tendency to over race. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. SHAMATON – Rider J. Byrne reported that his mount became awkward in its action around the 200m and that SHAMATON stepped in a divot. Following the running of this race, Stewards and members of the BRC track staff inspected this section of track and remedial work was undertaken to rectify this. MILLANE – Fractious in the barriers. Began awkwardly. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight. Race 7: SKY RACING QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1600 Metres CAPTAIN FENKEL – Approaching the 200m was momentarily inconvenienced by TEXAS FIREBALL which laid out under pressure. Jockey M. Harley, rider of TEXAS FIREBALL, advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in future. When asked to comment on the performance, rider J. Orman stated that he had to work hard to lead the event and CAPTAIN FENKEL was under pressure from the 400m and was disappointing in its finishing effort. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying signs of heat stress and was treated by the raceday veterinarian. THE INFLICTOR – Became awkward in its stride leaving the 1100m. JUNGLE PRINCE (NZ) – When asked to comment on the performance, rider R. Maloney stated that the gelding over raced in the early stages which may have had a detrimental effect on its finishing effort. SHARP DAZZLER – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. NO BETTER TIME – Slow to begin. TEXAS FIREBALL – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. MEAT PIE ARTIE – Over raced during the early stages. Rider J. Bayliss lost the use of his inside rein over the concluding stages. YOU KAY SQUEEZE – Began awkwardly, bumped and lost ground. Race 8: LADBROKES COMMUNITIES BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1400 Metres MOONAN ME – Slow to begin. THE TYLER – Raced in restricted room from the 1200m to the 1100m after rider M. Harley (NORTHERN DECREE) tested his mount to obtain cover for an extended period. Jockey Harley was reminded of his obligations if unable to obtain a position with cover without causing interference then he must maintain his established position. Attempted to savage PETERSHAM on entering the home straight after being directed out to obtain clear running. Trainer Mr L. Hatch was advised that THE TYLER must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again. RED TOP – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Raced in restricted room for a number of strides approaching the 100m. CASTILLIAN (NZ) – A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Lost the near fore plate in running. SCHMOOZER – Shifted out on jumping and bumped THE TYLER. NORTHERN DECREE (NZ) – Raced wide throughout. PETERSHAM – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Race 9: GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB CLASS 6 HANDICAP 1600 Metres INDIAN DREAMER – Declared a late scratching at 5.30pm at trainer’s request after apprentice J. Franklin was stood down by the club doctor and no suitable apprentice was available. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets on INDIAN DREAMER be refunded with the following deductions to apply:1st OSTERMEIER 7c win, 11c place2nd HOLLYWOOD NORTH 8c place3rd WARP SPEED 9c place BETTCHA THE CROWN – Began awkwardly and bumped OSTERMEIER. REGAL POM – Began awkwardly and bumped WARP SPEED. Passing the 100m, was obliged to steady when racing in restricted room between AUSSIE NUGGET and BUTCH’N’BUGS which were shifting ground to obtain clear running. Jockey A. Jones (AUSSIE NUGGET) and apprentice C. Graham (BUTCH’N’BUGS) were advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in future. When asked to comment on the performance of REGAL POM, apprentice B. Wheeler reported that the gelding was disappointing. Trainer’s representative T. Pollard was advised to report back to Stewards in the days subsequent anything that may come to light with the condition of REGAL POM. WARP SPEED – Bumped on jumping.
