Race 1: STRADBROKE SEASON ON SALE NOW QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP       1300 M
 
ENTERPRISE DEFENCE – Hampered shortly after the start. Approaching the 1000m, raced greenly when being steadied. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight. Approaching the 200m, attempted to improve into a run between WOWZINO and APPELLANT which laid out under pressure, and as a result ENTERPRISE DEFENCE was momentarily inconvenienced. Jockey D. Thornton the rider of APPELLANT was advised to exercise greater care when allowing his mount to shift ground in similar circumstances.
 
APPELLANT – Lost an off-hind plate in running. When questioned regarding the performance of the filly in today’s event, jockey D. Thornton stated that his mount was disappointing when asked for an effort and in his opinion has come to the end of its’ preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be displaying a slow post-race recovery.
 
CAN'T RECALL ONE (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
 
WOWZINO (NZ) – Hampered shortly after the start. Raced greenly in the early stages of the event.
 
MISHANI REACTOR – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Raced greenly in the early stages of the event and had to be steadied from heels approaching the 1000m.
 
Race 2: MOUNT FRANKLIN QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1835 M
 
HE'S FOR THE GIRLS – Approaching the 400m had to be momentarily inconvenienced after improving onto the heels of TEXAS FIREBALL, when that runner was steadied.
 
JUNGLE PRINCE (NZ) – Over raced during the early stages of the event.
 
TEXAS FIREBALL – Over raced during the early stages of the event. Approaching the 400m, was obliged to be steadied from the heels of BEAN ALL OVA, which shifted out after being bumped heavily by NEW JOY. Laid in under pressure approaching the 350m.
 
NEW JOY – Approaching the 400m, shifted out to improve, making heavy contact for several strides under riding with BEAN ALL OVA who became severely unbalanced and was carried out wider. Laid in under pressure approaching the winning post.
 
BEAN ALL OVA – Raced wide until approaching the 1300m. Bumped heavily rounding the home turn by NEW JOY, who shifted out to improve. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities. Apprentice C. Graham pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that she shifted her mount out in an attempt to improve around the heels of JUNGLE PRINCE (NZ), making heavy contact with BEAN ALL OVA on several occasions. As a result of this contact, BEAN ALL OVA was carried out into the running line of TEXAS FIREBALL who was obliged to be steadied. Apprentice C. Grahams’ license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days to commence midnight the 9th of March and to expire midnight the 20th of March 2024.Apprentice C. Graham was informed of her right to appeal.
 
BILPA MOREA (NZ) – Slow to begin. Approaching the 200m, momentarily raced in restricted room.
 
Race 3: OPERA QLD REGIONAL TOUR AT EF OPEN HANDICAP - WEIGHTS RAISED 1KG   1000 M
 
FETCH – Commenced to over race leaving the 600m and was obliged to be steadied from heels.
 
RED RUBI – Slow to begin. Over raced during the middle stages of the event.  
 
CHARGE ON (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 4: BECOME A BRC MEMBER BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP         2206 M
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately 2 mins, owing to CHAYSE ‘N’ ARTIE dislodging its rider and galloping for some distance on the course proper.
 
FLYING JOY – In the vicinity of the 1900m, improved onto heels and had to be steadied. Continued to over race until leaving the 1600m.
 
AIN'T HE GRAND – Change of tactics. To be ridden forwards if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly.
 
CHAYSE 'N' ARTIE – Dislodged jockey R. Maloney enroute to the barriers and then proceeded to gallop on the course proper for some distance. Declared a late scratching at 1:57pm on veterinary advice. Jockey R. Maloney was examined by QAS personnel and was cleared to fulfil the remainder of his riding engagements. Trainer S. Morrisey was advised that a warning would now be placed on the gelding in relation to its race day manners.
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on CHAYSE ‘N’ ARTIE to be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
 
First: DISPUTED RIVER (USA) – 10c win, 10c place
Second: OAKFIELD WALLABY – 10c place
Third: CLYDE – 11c place
 
CLYDE – Began awkwardly and bumped HAROLD THE GREAT (NZ). Over raced during the middle stages of the event. Held up rounding the home turn. Laid out under pressure in the straight.
 
DENILIQUIN – In the vicinity of the 1900m, improved onto heels and had to be steadied. Shifted out leaving the 1600m and was ridden forward to the lead passing the 1500m.
 
DISPUTED RIVER (USA) – Over raced in the early stages of the event. Held up rounding the home turn and for a short distance entering the straight.
 
HAROLD THE GREAT (NZ) – Began awkwardly and bumped CLYDE. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 5: NOVA 106.9 BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP         1400 M
 
Following the running of this race, connections of the dead heat 1st placed HELLAVADANCER lodged an objection in relation to the official margins. Stewards were not satisfied on the available evidence that there was enough reason to overturn the judges’ decision and correct weight was declared on the Judge’s semaphored numbers.
 
SIREN ROCK – Passing the 1300m, had to be steadied when HELLAVADANCER shifted in. Over raced in the early stages of the event and then commenced to race wide until passing the 900m. Jockey A. Mallyon was reprimanded pursuant AR 131(a) for shifting in when insufficiently clear of SIREN ROCK.
 
AFRICAN DAISY – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight. Approaching the 150m, had to be momentarily eased from the heels of NAVAL TRADER. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities. Trainer representative T. Pollard stated that on face value, the run was disappointing, and he would report back on the condition of the mare in the days subsequent prior to deciding on whether to continue with its current racing program.
 
WINSTON SMURFHILL (NZ) – Jockey N. Beriman was reprimanded pursuant AR 132(7)(a)(i) for using her whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
 
HELLAVADANCER – Bumped by RENOUF, who shifted out to improve when rounding the home turn.
 
NAVAL TRADER – Laid out under pressure in the straight.
 
 
Race 6: ROKU GIN CLASS 1 HANDICAP      1400 M
 
TRANSATLANTIC – When questioned regarding the performance of his mount in today’s event, jockey J. Orman stated that in his opinion the colt was not suited to the slow tempo of the race. Bumped at the start. In the vicinity of the 1100m raced in restricted room and had to be steadied. Approaching the 900m, became awkwardly placed on the heels of QUOTHQUAN and had to be restrained. Over raced in the middle stages of the event and raced wide with cover. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be displaying clinical signs of the thumps.
 
DARK TANGENT – Slow to begin.
 
VICTORIA ROC (NZ) - Stewards permitted the mare to race in a Norton bit, not the Tongue Control bit which was advertised. Blundered shortly after the start. Difficulty obtaining clear running when entering the home straight.
 
PETERSHAM – As jockey R. Maloney was unable to ride the allocated weight, he was replaced by jockey A. Jones. Jockey R. Maloney was fined $400 under the provisions of AR190(3). When questioned regarding the performance of her mount in today’s event, jockey A. Jones stated that in her opinion the mare was not suited to the slow tempo of the race and was doing its best work late in the race. In the vicinity of the 1100m, raced in restricted room and had to be steadied. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight and was obliged to shift wider. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities.
 
MORE LOVE – Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping TRANSATLANTIC.
 
REEL WILD (NZ) – Approaching the 1100m had to be steadied after improving onto heels. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
SIR LEONIDAS – Approaching the 900m had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of QUARANTINE DREAMS (IRE) and as a result shifted wider on the track and raced three wide for the remainder of the event. Raced in restricted room for a number of strides when passing the 100m.
 
Race 7: BYRON BAY LEMON SQUASH BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP       1200 M
 
MAGNUS BELLAGIO - Trainer G. Thornton was fined $200 under LR 67(1) for the late declaration of rider on the horse. Bumped at the start. Passing the 200m, shifted out and away from DEFERENTIAL. Apprentice C. Graham was severely reprimanded pursuant AR 131(a) for shifting ground when insufficiently clear.
 
TREPORTI – Severely hampered passing the 200m after MAGNUS BELLAGIO shifted out and away from DEFERENTIAL, who shifted out to improve.
 
EVOCATOR – Improved onto heels leaving the 400m and was obliged to shift inwards. Held up approaching the 200m and raced in restricted room before shifting in to gain clear running.
 
STRAPPARSI – Bumped shortly after the start, before then being eased from the heels of CAMPAI. Raced wide throughout.
 
CARRIBEAN KING (NZ) – Hampered shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout.
 
WHAT A SHAM (NZ) – Approaching the 900m had to be eased from the heels of MAGNUS BELLAGIO.
 
 
Race 8: LADBROKES ODDS SURGE CLASS 6 PLATE      1200 M
 
MILLANE – Jockey R. Maloney reported that his mount failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure in the straight and was disappointing with its finishing efforts. Shifted in at the start. Approaching the 800m improved onto heels and had to be steadied.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities.
 
OUR MAGNUS – Shifted out at the start. Over raced in the middle stages of the event. Held up for clear running passing the 500m.
 
PRIME ASSET – Jockey J. Bayliss reported on return to scale that his mount hung out throughout. Slow to begin. Hung out rounding the home turn. Raced in restricted room over the final 100m and was unable to be fully tested to the finish.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying clinical signs of mild heat stress and to be bilaterally lame in front. Trainer G. Heinrich was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to resuming.
 
MAHBABY– Hampered at the start. Leaving the 900m, improved onto heels and shifted out.
 
JAYANTHI– Raced wide in the early and middle stages of the event. Passing the 800m, was carried wider onto the track and raced four wide for the remainder.
 
OUTLAWED – Began awkwardly.
 
PRINCESS TENKO – Contacted the running rail upon leaving the mounting yard. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and was passed fit to start. Slow to begin.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities.
 
 
Race 9: BUY A QTIS YEARLING 11-12 MARCH QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP   1400 M
 
SHARP DAZZLER – Raced three wide throughout.
 
HYDE PARK – Approaching the 1200m had to be restrained after being forced into restricted room, making heavy contact with the running rail for a number of strides after LISSARO (NZ) shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey R. Jamieson pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant AR 131(a) in that approaching the 1200m she allowed her mount, LISSARO, to shift in when insufficiently clear of HYDE PARK. As a result of the shift HYDE PARK made heavy contact with the running rail for a number of strides and lost considerable ground. Jockey R. Jamiesons’ license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days to commence midnight the 9th of March and to expire midnight the 20th of March 2024.Jockey R. Jamieson was informed of her right to appeal. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be showing clinical signs of heat stress and dehydration.
 
LISSARO (NZ) – Approaching the 1200m, shifted in when insufficiently clear of HYDE PARK.
 
MEAT PIE ARTIE – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground.
 
WESTOAK – Began awkwardly.
 
MAGIC ISLAND – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
CRIMSON WARNING – Began awkwardly.

 
Race 10: SKY RACING BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP         1600 M
 
BELLA TIVACI (NZ) – Steadied leaving the 1400m when racing tight to the inside of SCHMOOZER.
 
ALDEENAARY (IRE) – Approaching the 1350m clipped heels and checked after being forced in by OCEAN ZAR who shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey B. Thornton pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant AR 131(a) in that approaching the 1350m, he allowed his mount, OCEAN ZAR to shift in when insufficiently clear of ALDEENAARY (IRE) and as a result of this shift, ALDEENAARY was forced in and across the heels of SENESCHAL (IRE) and clipped heels. Jockey B. Thorntons’ license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 13 days to commence midnight the 9th of March and to expire midnight the 22nd of March 2024.Jockey B. Thornton was informed of his right to appeal.
 
OCEAN ZAR – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be showing clinical signs of dehydration and the thumps.
 
RUSSIAN MYSTIC – Lost its near hind plate enroute to the barrier. Underwent a pre-race veterinary inspection on arrival at the barriers and was scratched at 5:47pm on veterinary advice.  
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on RUSSIAN MYSTIC to be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
 
First: THESECONDATPORTSEA – 11c win, 14c place
Second: SENESCHAL (IRE) – 11c place
Third: SCHMOOZER – 14c place
 
NIPPA'S NIGHTCAP – Raced in restricted room leaving the 1500m and commenced to race three wide with cover throughout.
 
LADY LE DA – Jockey J. Byrne reported that in his opinion his mount failed to let down which he attributed to the racing conditions in today’s event. Raced three wide until the 1000m. Became awkwardly placed on heels after shifting out over the concluding stages as THESECONDATPORTSEA shifted in at the same time.
 
THESECONDATPORTSEA – Hampered shortly after the start and lost ground. Obliged to shift wider on entering the home straight to improve into clear running.
