STEWARDS REPORT BRISBANE RACING CLUB @ EAGLE FARM SATURDAY 16 MARCH 2024 WEATHER – FineTRACK RATING – Good 4RAIL – +0.5m entire OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – J. AdamsStewards – P. Zimmermann, D. McMahon, O. Legg (Cadet), A. Brook (Assistant) GENERALStewards permitted the following overweight: Race 6 – J. Orman +1kg. Race 1: SKY RACING QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1400 M DANCE FOR ME RANDY – When questioned regarding today’s performance, Jockey J. Murphy stated that in his opinion the gelding failed to travel at any stage of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery and to have bled from one nostril. Trainer G. Holt was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance inclusive of endoscopic results and a 1000m gallop in the presence of the Stewards prior to resuming. MR CROWNING MOMENT – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and was obliged to shift wider to improve. Laid in under pressure. MYTHBUSTA – As J. Guthmann-Chester was overweight, Stewards permitted M. Du Plessis to replace him. Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester was fined $200 pursuant to AR 190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 200m after CHERRY LIPS shifted in. PRIDE OF SAVABELLA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. MISHANI REACTOR – Over raced during the early stages. CHERRY LIPS – Laid in under pressure. Race 2: RAW METAL CORP CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200 M MAJESTIC BOOM – Hampered on jumping. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. NEW LEVEL (NZ) – Slow to begin. Passing the 1000m, had to be restrained to avoid the heels of MAJESTIC BOOM which was carried in by CICCONE. Jockey A. Thompson rider of MAJESTIC BOOM and Jockey J. Byrne rider of CICCONE were both reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident. Raced wide without cover. DEFERENTIAL – Passing the 600m, had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of TO WISH. TO WISH – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Approaching the 200m, shifted in to improve into a run to the inside of CICCONE and was disappointed shortly after and was obliged to shift to the outside of the field in an attempt to improve. CICCONE – Over raced in the middle stages. Hampered on entering the home straight by MAJESTIC BOOM which shifted out when attempting to improve into clear running. Jockey A. Thompson rider of MAJESTIC BOOM was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) and was advised to show greater care when shifting out. MACHINE HEAD – Over raced in the early stages. GRAND METEOR – Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. LI'L WONDER – Trainer T. Gollan advised a change of tactics and will settle further back if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. Jumped away awkwardly and was hampered shortly after. FINAL ILLUSIONIST – Raced wide without cover. Race 3: SPORTING CHANCE CANCER FOUNDATION BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1400 M TIP OF THE SPEAR (IRE) – Laid in throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. NAVAL TRADER – Laid out over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled bilaterally on the first occasion. Co Trainer M. Hoysted was advised NAVAL TRADER would now be stood down for 3 months and must gallop 1000m in the presence of Stewards prior to resuming. TARPS – Over raced in the early stages. When questioned regarding the gelding leading by a significant distance, Apprentice B. Wheeler stated his mount took hold of him in the early stages which placed a significant gap between the field which resulted in the horse failing to finish off. DAMO DAYZ – Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight. PERNELL – Hampered shortly after jumping resulting in the gelding being slow into stride. BOLD CONTENDER (NZ) – Hampered shortly after jumping. Race 4: SENQ 693AM PAT & HEALS FOR BREAKFAST BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 2400 M CHAYSE 'N' ARTIE – Obliged to alter course approaching the 250m to improve into clear running. OAKFIELD WALLABY – Jockey A. Mallyon could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer’s representative for K. Lee’s, Mr M. Eggleston advised the mare will now be sent for a spell. HARBELLE – Over raced in the middle stages. BOSTON OF TUFFY – Passing the 500m, was severely hampered after being forced into the running rail by FLASH PRINCE which attempted to improve around that gelding’s heels into a run where there was insufficient room to improve into. Jockey A. Jones was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slow post-race recovery. Trainer P. Robl was advised a warning would be placed on BOSTON OF TUFFY for poor performance. Trainer P. Robl further advised Stewards that the gelding would now be going for a spell. PHOENIX FLYER – Raced wide throughout. Race 5: MOREE DESPERATES CLASS 6 HANDICAP 1400 M TRIBECA STAR – Slow to begin. BRENTWOOD – Over raced in the early and middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slow post-race recovery and displaying clinical signs of the thumps. Trainer T. Gollan was advised to report back on the condition of the gelding in the days subsequent. HE'S HEAVEN – Over raced whilst being restrained early stages. THE DROVER – Raced wide throughout. When asked to comment on the gelding’s improved performance, Trainer D. Batters reported that it was only the 3rd run in his stable. He added that at its most recent start in his opinion, the gelding was unlucky and in today’s event there was a significant weight drop with the addition of visors, he expected an improved performance. Race 6: AIRTOUCH QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1500 M SHAMEDY – Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer G. Green stated that in his opinion the gelding had to work too hard after racing three wide without cover throughout the event. Trainer G. Green reported he would report on the gelding’s condition upon returning to his stables in Rockhampton. SHOWDRA – Restrained from an outside barrier to take up a position closer to the rail. TOP FUN – Passing the 1300m was forced wider on the track after TRANSATLANTIC shifted out to improve, shortly thereafter was restrained in an attempt to obtain cover but when doing so, became awkwardly placed at the heels of TRANSATLANTIC and had to be restrained. KAIROS LOUIE (NZ) – Jumped away awkwardly. Race 7: AC SELECT BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1800 M TRIPLE MONEY (NZ) – Passing the 1500m, commenced to over race whilst being restrained to obtain cover. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled bilaterally on the first occasion. Trainer P. Shailer was advised TRIPLE MONEY (NZ) would now be stood down for 3 months and must gallop 1000m in the presence of Stewards prior to resuming. HADOUKEN – When asked to comment on today’s performance Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester reported his mount hung out throughout the event and proved disappointing in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. TWICE ON SUNDAY – When asked to comment on today’s performance Jockey J. Huxtable stated that his mount felt awkward in its action over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. GULF OF TOMINI – Jockey T. Marshall was cautioned regarding his whip height. JETPACK VERDI (NZ) – When asked to comment on today’s performance Jockey A. Jones stated that being first up today that her mount will derive benefit. TAVISTORM (NZ) – Laid out rounding the home turn. When asked to comment on today’s performance Jockey J. Bayliss could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a poor post-race recovery and to be displaying clinical signs of the thumps. Trainer S. Kendrick advised Stewards he would report back on the condition of the gelding in the days subsequent. SUBUKI – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in its near hind leg. Trainer W. Brown was advised the mare would require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming. DANCETHENIGHTAWAY – Raced wide throughout. Apprentice T. Fenlon was cautioned regarding her whip height. ADALISSA – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight, obliged to shift to secure clear running and as a result became awkwardly placed on the heels of JETPACK VERDI approaching the 200m and had to alter course. Race 8: FUJITSU AIRSTAGE QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1200 M PRESS LINK (NZ) – Raced wide throughout. BRAVELY – Jumped away awkwardly, shifted in, and contacted PLATINUM LIES. Heavily contacted passing the 600m after VOLCANIC LOVE shifted in abruptly. TELLEZ (NZ) – Over raced in the early stages. CAPITAL CHASE – Slow to begin. VOLCANIC LOVE – Contacted the inside barrier partition on jumping and consequently lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. VENTURER – Trainer T. Gollan advised a change of tactics and will settle further back if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. FARWEST – Passing the 600m shifted in abruptly making heavy contact with BRAVELY. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. ALLUMEUR – Became awkwardly placed on heels whilst weakening passing the 200m. PLATINUM LIES – Shifted out on jumping, contacting BRAVELY. When questioned regarding the filly leading by a considerable distance, Jockey N. Beriman stated his mount took hold of her in the early stages which placed a significant gap between the field which resulted in the horse failing to finish off. Trainer N. McCall advised Stewards that she may consider taking the blinkers off and drop back in distance. Race 9: SWYSH OPEN HANDICAP 1200 M MISHANI SNIPER – Jumped away awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages. Raced in restricted room over the final 100m and was unable to be ridden with full vigour to the finish. ARENTEE – Held up for clear running over the concluding stages. RANCH HAND – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. NORTHERN EXPRESS – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. GREYWORM – Hampered on jumping. STARVIRGO – When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey J. Bayliss stated that he could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. TARA JASMINE – Trainer P. Minter advised Stewards a change of tactics and will settle further forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. STAR OF CHAOS – When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey A. Jones stated the mare was first up today and, in her opinion, would derive benefit from todays run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Race 10: LADBROKES COMMUNITIES BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP (4YO ONLY QTIS BONUSES APPLICABLE) 1600 M The start of this event was delayed approximately 5 minutes owing to BLAZEN BOOTS having to be re-shod behind the barriers. HYDE – Hampered on jumping. When asked to comment on today’s performance, Apprentice B. Wheeler reported that his mount got its tongue over the bit. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slow post-race recovery. Trainers representative T. Pollard was advised HYDE would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to resuming. T. Pollard stated that it is their intention to apply a tongue tie and would report on the gelding’s condition in the days subsequent. TAPILDOODLEDO (NZ) – Stood flat footed as the start was affected. WINSTON SMURFHILL (NZ) – When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey N. Beriman reported could offer no explanation for the below market expectation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. BEEF WEEK PRINCESS – Shifted out on jumping. Raced wide throughout. KOKONOTSU – Hampered on jumping. When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey J. Orman reported that he was forced to settle further back than anticipated and as such failed to run on. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. BLAZEN BOOTS (NZ) – Lost near hind plate on route to the barriers and had to be re-shod on arrival. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared fit to start. SENESCHAL (IRE) – Underwent pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared fit to start. When questioned regarding leading today’s event, Jockey J. Bayliss stated his mount began extremely well and found himself in a position outside the lead and in his opinion is better suited racing with cover. He added that with straightening his mount it weakened noticeably. RUSSIAN WARRIOR – Hampered shortly after jumping. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment on the mare’s improved performance, Trainers representative D. Barron reported that the stable was not surprised with the forward showing today, he added that last start at Doomben the mare had a tough run and weakened noticeably after the rider elected to ease down in the straight.
