GENERAL

Stewards permitted the following overweight:
Race 9: ELLA TE AMA – A. Mallyon +0.5kg (55kg)
Race 10: ROCKRIBBED – R. Maloney +0.5kg (56kg)
 
As Jockey M. Rodd was indisposed, Stewards accepted the rider changes as per the Raceday Summary.
 
Stewards intend to inquire into the circumstances relating to the late scratching of WILLNOTQUIT (NZ).
 
Race 1: BECOME A BRC MEMBER BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP    1000 M
 
DASHING GEE GEE – Approaching the 800m was momentarily inconvenienced when having to be restrained to avoid the heels of TIKKA READY which shifted in. Apprentice Y. Lewis was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident. Raced wide throughout.
 
DEVASTATING – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting signs of a slow post-race recovery.
 
KAT CHINNA – Raced wide throughout. Passing the 300m, had to be steadied when racing in restricted room after being tightened by RADIANT REMI who was attempting to improve into a run where there was insufficient room to do so. Jockey A. Jones was issued a charge pursuant to AR 131(a) in that on entering the home straight passing the 300m, attempted to improve into a run where there was insufficient room to do so resulting in D. Thornton rider of KAT CHINNA to take hold of his mount to avoid the heels of RADIANT REMI. Jockey A. Jones’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of thirteen (13) days, commencing midnight Sunday 7 April 2024, concluding midnight Saturday 20 April 2024.
 
SILVER ON RED – Began awkwardly.
 
ISLAND MAGIC – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to contacting the enclosure gate on the way to the barriers and was subsequently cleared to start.
 
SHALAA'S MOMENT – Obliged to alter course when passing the 100m.
 
RADIANT REMI – Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight. Passing the 300m, attempted to improve into a run where there was insufficient room to do so and as a result was buffeted on a number of occasions. After the race it was noted that the mare had lost its off fore plate.
 
ORLABENT – Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight and was obliged to shift wider to improve.
 
Race 2: STRADBROKE SEASON ON SALE NOW QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP       1200 M
 
The start of this race was significantly delayed owing to ZELEZNY requiring to be re-plated.
 
MISHANI ECLIPSE – Raced wide. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ZELEZNY – Jockey A. Jones reported that in her opinion the gelding failed to handle today’s surface.
 
AGE OF AQUARIUS – Began awkwardly. Raced wide.  
 
SUSPICIOUS AL – Slow to begin.
 
TIME TO PROPHET – Hampered shortly after the start. Jockey N. Beriman reported that in her opinion the filly raced flat.
 
ELECTRIC BRAE – Passing the 200m, had to alter course and shift in after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of I'M ZAC which laid in.
 
JEMOMA ALPILAGE – Raced wide.
 
ORIENTE – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the middle stages.
 
BENGAL DIAMOND – Blundered and momentarily unbalanced its rider. Raced greenly in the early stages.
 
 

 
Race 3: LADBROKES RACING CLUB CLASS 3 PLATE        1820 M
 
KERKORIAN – Jockey J. Bayliss reported that in his opinion that his mount failed to handle today’s track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting signs of a slow post-race recovery.
 
KOKONOTSU – Slow to begin.
 
JETPACK VERDI (NZ) – Raced wide for the majority before being able to take up a position outside the lead passing the 800m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting signs of mild heat stress.
 
PORT MOURANT – Slow to begin.  
 
CONNECTICUT – When questioned on the improved performance, Co-Trainer C. Geran reported that the gelding had pleased in its work leading into today’s event and was confident of a forward showing today as CONNECTICUT had dropped down in weight and the step up in distance.
 
SIERRA DE GREDOS (NZ) – Laid out for the majority of the event. Hung out under pressure in the home straight placing him at a disadvantage. Trainer A. Campton was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding for hanging out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting signs of mild heat stress. Trainer A. Campton reported the gelding to have lacerations inside its mouth and was advised that veterinary clearance would be required prior to resuming.
 
SACRED FEELING (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
 
CAVE DIVER (GB) – Over raced in the middle stages. Jockey A. Mallyon reported that in his opinion the mare was not suited to today’s track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Stable representative M. Eggleston reported that in his opinion the mare may not have handled today’s track conditions and will report back to Stewards on its condition the subsequent days.
 
ADALISSA – Raced wide throughout.
 
Race 4: CASCADE BENCHMARK 75 HANDICAP         1300 M
 
MOONAN ME – Slow to begin.
 
EN POINTE – Laid in over the concluding stages.
 
PRINCESS TENKO – Apprentice C. Graham reported that in her opinion her mount failed to handle today’s track conditions.
 
TREPORTI – Raced wide throughout.
 
VINTAGE CHOICE (IRE) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.  
 
COLLAY'S SPIRIT (NZ) – Slow to begin.
Race 5: DAVE IRVINE'S 50TH NO METRO WINS HANDICAP         1400 M
 
MAGIC CHARLEE – Stewards permitted the gelding to race without a nasal strip which was a part of its advertised gear. Bumped at the start. Raced wide. When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, Apprentice Y. Lewis stated that after being trapped wide in the early stages she attempted to ride her mount forward in an endeavour to obtain cover but was unable to do so and after straightening her mount commenced to weaken noticeably and in hindsight, she added she would have been better off restraining and taking a position at the rear of the field. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore. Trainer M. Currie was advised MAGIC CHARLEE would require veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
 
IRING – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination upon on-course arrival due to sustaining an abrasion to its off hind leg during transportation was subsequently cleared to start. Passing the 1100m, had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of FIXATED who was restraining to avoid the heels of BEAN FOGGY which shifted in to obtain cover.Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident.  
 
TOO HARD TO REFUSE – Laid in under pressure.  
 
DENIED – Bumped at the start.
 
FIXATED – Slow to begin. Passing the 1100m, had to be restrained from the heels of BEAN FOGGY which shifted in. Commenced to over race in the middle stages and again had to be restrained after improving onto the heels of BEAN FOGGY.
 
Race 6: XXXX 3YO QUALITY HANDICAP      1200 M
 
FLAG HALL – Began awkwardly and momentarily unbalanced its rider. Raced in restricted room passing the 800m to the inside of THE ASTRONOMER who had to be restrained to avoid the heels of HEARTONI who shifted in when insufficiently clear. Apprentice C. Graham was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident. Jockey B. Thornton reported that in his opinion became concerned with the action of the gelding on entering the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer L. Freedman reported that he would have his stable veterinarian examine FLAG HALL on return to the stables and would report back on the gelding’s condition in the days subsequent.
 
MISHANI GANGSTER – Bumped at the start. Raced wide.
 
NORTH OF ELI – Began awkwardly and bumped MISHANI GANGSTER.
 
Race 7: DRINKWISE BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP         1400 M
 
DARK HARMONY – Began awkwardly and shifted in abruptly.
 
PENTITO – Raced wide.
 
I AM LETHAL – Began awkwardly and was slow into stride. Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor reported that in his opinion his mount travelled strongly throughout the event however failed to respond when pressured near the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
JUPITUS – Had to be restrained shortly after jumping. Jockey J. Orman reported on return to scale that he became concerned with the action of the gelding and elected to not place it under pressure over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
LATELY (NZ) – Hampered shortly after jumping. Raced in restricted room in the early stages.
 
START STRUTTING – Over raced in the early and middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
REGAL EDITION – Raced wide.
 
MENARI MAGIC – Raced wide.
 
OCEAN ZAR – Connections advised a change of tactics, to be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. Settled at the rear of the field. On entering the home straight, had difficulty obtaining clear running and as such was obliged to shift in to secure clear running. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted in particular settling at the rear of the field, Apprentice C. Graham stated that after beginning only fairly she pressured her mount over the first couple of strides but was of the opinion that the mare didn’t show the early gate speed to be able to press forward without being trapped wide and as such elected to restrain and take up a position at the rear of the field. She added on entering the home straight after initially electing to shift out to obtain clear running, a run did not eventuate so was obliged to shift back in. She further added though she was never held up, she was unable to fully extend into a run until inside the final 150m. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
SELLING SUNSET – Began awkwardly.
 
FELIX THE SCAT –Contacted the outside barrier petition on jumping away. Jockey R. Maloney reported that his mount over raced in the early stages and this in his opinion had an effect on the horse’s finishing effort.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
Race 8: SKY RACING OPEN HANDICAP - WEIGHTS RAISED 3.5KG  1820 M
 
SEAT OF POWER (IRE) – Jockey J. Orman reported that in his opinion could offer no explanation for today’s disappointing performance.
 
BONNY EZRA (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
CAPRICE DES DIEUX (FR) – Raced wide throughout. M. Harley reported his mount was included to hang in from the 300m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
STUCK WITH YOU (NZ) – When questioned regarding todays improved performance, the Trainers representative (Holly) stated the gelding had pleased into its work leading into today’s race and coming off its good performance at the Gold Coast – she added that the gelding is racing over its preferred distance and was not surprised with today’s forward showing.
 
RED WAVE – Raced wide in the early stages until approaching the 1000m.
 
STAR OF MICHELIN – Slow to begin.
 
WAPITI – Commenced to over race when the pace of the race slackened passing the 1000m.
 
FIFTH POSITION (IRE) – Slow to begin. Jockey D. Thornton reported that he could offer no explanation for today’s disappointing performance.
 
 
RED TOP – Commenced to over race when the pace of the race slackened passing the 1000m. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Approaching the 400m had to be steadied off the heels of BERIMAN. Passing the 150m, raced in restricted room and passing the 50m had to be steadied when tightened for running between WAPITI and SOLAR APEX.  
 
Race 9: LADBROKES ODDS SURGE CLASS 6 HANDICAP         1600 M
 
HYDE – Raced wide.
 
HOLSTEIN – Over raced in the middle stages.
 
A DEEL OF HUMOUR – Raced wide.
 
IVERSON – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
Race 10: GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB CLASS 6 HANDICAP (4YO ONLY QTIS BONUSES APPLICABLE)    1200 M
 
The start of this race was delayed due to SIR WARWICK being required to be re-shod.
 
BUBBA'S BAY – Raced wide.
 
RELEASE THE BEANS – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Jockey D. Thornton reported that in his opinion his mount failed to handle todays track conditions. Trainer R. Heathcote reported that in future it is his intention to only start the gelding on good tracks.
 
SIR WARWICK – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting signs of a slow post-race recovery.
 
ROLL UP – Raced wide. Apprentice C. Graham reported to scale that shortly after the start was effected, her saddle slipped back and placed her at a disadvantage for the entirety of the race.
 
MISHANI SPARTAN – Slow to begin.
 
TOJAKI – Raced wide. Jockey R. Dolan reported to scale that in his opinion his mount didn’t handle todays track conditions.
