SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
Eagle Farm - Saturday 27 April 2024 – LADBROKES MICK DITTMAN PLATE 1000m:
SKIRT THE LAW – Trainer T. Gollan advised that he was satisfied in the manner in which the filly had recovered following the event and his intentions were to continue on with SKIRT THE LAW’s preparation.
 
Eagle Farm - Saturday 20 April 2024 – LADBROKES ASCOT QUALITY HANDICAP 1000 M
ZARASTRO – Trainer T. Gollan advised that he was satisfied in the manner in which the gelding had recovered following the event and his intentions were to continue on with ZARASTRO’s preparation.
 
GENERAL
Riders underwent random breath testing on arrival at today’s meeting and no abnormalities were detected.
 
Race1: STRADBROKE CALCUTTA 13 JUNE BENCHMARK 90 HANDICAP1835 M
 
WARNING - Lost an off-hind plate in running. Near the 1600m, was taken inwards by FIFTH POSITION (IRE), making heavy contact with LATELY (NZ), and as a result was buffeted between runners and lost ground. Jockey V. Duric, rider of FIFTH POSITION (IRE) was charged and pleaded guilty to careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) in that passing the 1600m, he allowed his mount to shift in, when insufficiently clear of WARNING (J Byrne) which was carried in onto LATELY (NZ) (B. Wheeler) and as a result had to be checked and lost its rightful run. Jockey. V. Duric’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days, commencing midnight the 11th of May 2024 and concluding midnight the 19th of May 2024. Jockey V. Duric was advised of his right to appeal.
 
WAPITI – Jockey N. Beriman pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii)in that she used her whip on 11 occasions prior to the 100m, +6 more than permitted. Jockey N. Beriman’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days, commencing midnight the 5th of May 2024 and concluding midnight the 16th of May 2024. Jockey N. Beriman was advised of her right to appeal.
 
FIFTH POSITION (IRE) – Shifted in near the 1600m when insufficiently clear, and as a result, was bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced. Over-raced during the middle stages. When asked to comment on the performance of FIFTH POSITION (IRE), Jockey V. Duric stated that his mount over-raced early, which in his opinion had a detrimental effect to the geldings’ finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Jockey V. Duric pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii)in that he used his whip on ten occasions prior to the 100m, +5 more than permitted. Jockey V. Duric’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days, 11th of May 2024 and concluding midnight the 19th of May 2024. Stewards directed the period of suspension to be served concurrently with the careless riding suspension concurred in this race.Jockey V. Duric was advised of his right to appeal.
 
HOLSTEIN – Jockey R. Dolan dropped his whip near the 50m.
 
LATELY (NZ) – Slow to begin. Had to be severely checked and lost ground near the 1600m, when WARNING was taken in by FIFTH POSITION (IRE). Raced keenly during the middle stages.
 
PAPAL MISS – Contacted the running rail enroute to the barriers. Underwent a pre-race veterinary inspection and was passed fit to race. Restrained from a wide barrier to obtain a position closer to the rail. Had to be checked approaching the 1600m.
 
BASARWA (NZ) – Raced wide during the early stages. When asked to comment on the performance of the gelding, Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor stated, that after settling rearward, in his opinion BASARWA (NZ) was not suited to the tempo of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
 
Race 2: XXXX BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 1600 M
 
HYDE - Raced wide for the majority. Near the 150m, when under pressure and tiring, was hampered slightly by RISING PACIFIC (NZ), which shifted in.
 
RISING PACIFIC (NZ) – Raced wide throughout. Passing the 1200m, was obliged to steady after improving onto the heels of STARZAM.
 
TENZING – Lost an off-fore plate in running.
 
STARZAM – Held up rounding the home turn until a point approaching the 200m.
 
MAYFAIR SPIRIT (IRE) – Held up approaching the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying signs of a slow recovery.
 
NORTHERN DECREE (NZ) – Slow to begin. Held up approaching the home turn. Near the 100m, attempted a narrow run to the inside of TOROVISTA and brushed with that runner on a number of occasions.
 
TOROVISTA – Laid out rounding the home turn. Bumped on a number of occasions leaving the 100m.
 
Race 3: SEVEN FILLIES & MARES BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP (4YO ONLY QTIS BONUSES APPLICABLE)    1200 M
 
TYPHOON TAAVI – Began awkwardly.
 
MY SNOW QUEEN – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
SHOHEI – Raced wide during the early stages. Near 80m, was slightly hampered by TRES REDOUTE, which laid in. Jockey S. Collett was advised to exercise greater care and stop and straighten her mounts in similar circumstances. When asked to comment on the performance of SHOHEI, Apprentice C. Graham commented that in her opinion, the mare would derive benefit from today’s event and may not have appreciated the track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
SEA RIPPLE – Slow to begin.
 
JUST LET IT OUT – Awkward to begin.
 
TRES REDOUTE – Lost a near-hind plate in running. Leaving the 800m, over-raced for a short distance when steadying from the heels od SHOHEI, which shifted in. Laid in when placed under pressure near the 80m.
 
Race 4: MORETON HIRE BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP         1400 M
 
HYPE (IRE) - When asked to comment regarding the performance of HYPE (IRE), Jockey B. Thornton, reported that in his opinion, the gelding did not appreciate todays racing conditions.
 
HOLLYWOOD NORTH – Had difficulty obtaining clear running between the 300m until approaching the 50m.
 
SAYL (GB) – Awkward to begin.

EVOCATOR - Slow to begin. Held up approaching the home turn.
 
OUTLAWED – Restrained from a wide barrier to obtain a position closer to the rail.
 
BEEF WEEK PRINCESS – Near the 100m, was inconvenienced when MILITARY GAMBLER shifted out to improve.
 
BLAKMAX – Near the 50m, was bumped and shifted wider. When asked to comment regarding the performance of BLAKMAX, Jockey A. Jones reported that in her opinion, the gelding did not appreciate todays racing conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
CONSTANT CAFÉ – Raced wide during the early stages. Near the 50m was obliged to steady from the heels of BLAKMAX, which was bumped by EVOCATOR and shifted out. Jockey A. Jones the rider of BLAKMAX, was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. Upon return to scale, Jockey M. Du Plessis reported that his mount was inclined to lay in.
 
 
 
Race 5:BRC MEMBERS QTIS 3YO QUALITY         1300 M
 
INHIBITIONS – Raced wide for the majority.
 
WEIGALL TIGER – Held up for clear running from the home turn until approaching the 250m.
 
VELOZES – Over-raced for the majority. Held up from rounding the home turn until near the 250m.
 
KEEP YOUR COOL – Leaving the 800m, when the pace slackened, improved onto the heels of GOLDEN DECADE and blundered.
 
INLANDA - Restrained from a wide barrier to obtain a position closer to the rail.
 
PIVOTAL LAD - Restrained from a wide barrier to obtain a position closer to the rail. Approaching the 900m, when over-racing, improved onto heels and was obliged to steady. Passing the 800m, had to shift wider after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of VELOZES and as a result raced wide for the remainder of the event.
 
VOLCANIC LOVE – Approaching the 1100m, when over racing and attempting to restrain, was obliged to steady from the heels of VELOZES, which shifted out.  Continued to over race, and leaving the 800m, when the pace slacked, improved onto the heels of INHIBITIONS, before shifting very wide on the track and racing wide for remainder.
 
JEALOUS – Restrained from a wide barrier to obtain a position closer to the rail.
 
Race 6: LADBROKES DALRELLO STAKES 1000 M
 
LEAD ME ON – Raced wide.
 
ZOUNA – Leaving the 800m, when racing in restricted room, was buffeted, became unbalanced and made contact with the rail when DEVINE FORCE, stepped in and away from PARETO.
 
THE HAMO – Trainer W. Hulbert advised of a change of tactics in that the gelding would attempt to find cover if circumstances permitted. Ridden accordingly. Raced three wide with cover.
 
MISHANI LILY – Laid out under pressure in the straight.
 
DEVINE FORCE – Leaving the 800m, when restraining for cover, shifted in and away from PARETO, bumping with ZOUNA and becoming unbalanced. Laid in throughout.
 
CARRAVILLA – Slow to begin. Leaving the 700m, was inconvenienced and became unbalanced, when racing in restricted room to the inside of ESPINHO and was obliged to check to avoid the heels of ZOUNA.
 
ESPINHO – Slow to begin. Leaving the 700m, when racing in restricted room between runners, was bumped on a number of occasions by CARRAVILLA and became unbalanced. Approaching the 500m, when attempting to improve into a position to the inside of DEVINE FORCE, had to be restrained after becoming awkwardly placed on heels.
 
 
Race 7:THE STAR COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP (4YO ONLY QTIS BONUSES APPLICABLE)   1200 M
 
OUGHTON – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
IMMORAL– Held up for clear running on entering the home straight until approaching the 250m. Approaching the finishing line, was bumped and became unbalanced, when WARBY laid out under pressure. Jockey J. Orman reported that he had difficulty using his whip passing the 200m.  
 
JEMELDI - Raced wide throughout.

THIS IS ONE – Over-raced during the middle stages. Near the 300m, became awkwardly placed at heels momentarily.
 
DEVASTATING – Leaving the 800m, momentarily steadied from the heels of LIBERTY STEPS.
 
WARBY – Slow to begin. Laid out when placed under pressure over the concluding stages and bumped with IMMORAL.
 
MINTAKA LAD – Raced wide for the majority.
 
LIBERTY STEPS – Over-raced during the middle stages. Leaving the 600m, steadied from heels when over-racing. Had difficulty obtaining clear running from the home turn until approaching the 200m.
 
Race 8: U&U RECRUITMENT VICTORY STAKES         1200 M
 
UNCOMMON JAMES – Raced wide for the majority. Leaving the 600m, was bumped and shifted in. When asked to comment regarding the tactics adopted today, Jockey T. Berry reported that it was his intention to find cover, however due to the early tempo of the race, he elected to allow his mount to stride forward and settle in a position towards the lead. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying signs of a slow recovery.
 
GOLDEN MILE – Knuckled on jumping.
 
ANTINO (NZ) – Slow to begin. Jockey V. Duric pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii)in that he used his whip on ten occasions prior to the 100m, +5 more than permitted. Jockey V. Duric’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 days, commencing midnight the 19th of May 2024 and concluding midnight the 29th of May 2024. Jockey V. Duric was advised of his right to appeal.
 
 
BALLER – Raced wide throughout. Near the 600m, laid in, bumping with UNCOMMON JAMES and became unbalanced. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying signs of a slow recovery. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding, Jockey A. Jones stated, that she was not under strict instructions as to where BALLER would settle but was of the opinion with speed drawn to the inside of her mount, she would likely settle in a midfield position. She added that shortly after jumping away and after beginning well, she elected to ride her mount forward in an attempt to take advantage of her early gate speed and cross to potentially obtain a position outside of the lead. She added that after FRONT PAGE, PRINCE OF BOOM and UNCOMMON JAMES improved to her inside, she was trapped in a four wide position. She further added that passing the 800m she attempted to shift in, after she thought that UNCOMMON JAMES would come back, allowing her to obtain a three wide position outside the lead. She was unable to do so and as a result travelled four wide for the entire event. Stewards questioned Trainer T Gollan regard to tactics and although he concurred with Jockey A. Jones’s explanation, he was surprised to see BALLER settling that far forward. Stewards advised Jockey A. Jones that they intend to examine the wagering on the race and adjourned the inquiry to a time and date to be fixed.
 
PETRONIUS – Connections advised of a change of tactics in that PETRONIUS would attempt to settle midfield if circumstances permit. Settled slightly forward of midfield. Raced keenly until the 600m. Held up approaching the home turn.
 
COMRADE ROSA – Slow to begin.
 
Race 9:SKY RACING QUEENSLAND GUINEAS         1600 M
 
DUCASSE – Raced wide. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages.
 
ENCODER – Had difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 300m and again passing the 200m. Had to be restrained when attempting a tight run between TRANSATLANTIC and FELIX THE SCAT.
 
CAFE MILLENIUM – Slow to begin.
 
IN EVIDENCE - Raced wide.
 
PORT LOCKROY - Raced wide.
 
TRANSATLANTIC – Slow to begin. Raced wide.
 
FELIX THE SCAT – Restrained from a wide barrier to obtain a position closer to the rail. Raced wide.

CARACAS (NZ) – Slow to begin.  Commenced to over-race approaching the 1400m and proved very difficult to settle. Continued to over-race for some distance. Jockey J. Byrne reported that his mount raced extremely keenly with the addition of blinkers.
 
EASY DUN – Slow to begin.
 
CHICA MOJITO (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Near the 1200m, was obliged to steady from the heels of MISTERKIPCHOGE (NZ), which shifted in. Jockey R. Maloney the rider of MISTERKIPCHOGE (NZ) was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) in that he allowed his mount to shift in when not fully clear of CHICA MOJITO (NZ).
