GENERAL
 
All horses that were accepted to race in the Group 1 Queensland Oaks underwent a pre race veterinary inspection on Friday the 7th of June 2024.
 
Stewards approved the following overweights:
Race 3. M. Rodd +1kg
Race 4. B. Shinn +0.5kg
Race 5. J. Orman +1kg
Race 6. J. McDonald +0.5kg
Race 9. T. Berry +0.5kg
 
 
Race 1: MITTYS BENCHMARK 90 HANDICAP         1800 Metres
 
SNEAK PREVIEW – Slow to begin.
 
WAPITI – Raced wide throughout.
 
NIKAU SPUR (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
MILITARY GAMBLER – Jockey J. Bayliss could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards advised trainer Mr C. Munce that MILITARY GAMBLER would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
 
PRINCESS RHAENYS – Raced in restricted room near the 1700m and had to be eased. Raced wide throughout.
 
WARP SPEED – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
 
LINTHORPE LAD – When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice M. Castle reported that the gelding over raced and proved difficult to settle.
 
EVOCATOR – Began awkwardly.
 
SUNSET SOIREE – Slow to begin. Jockey A. Jones reported that the mare travelled well throughout, however didn’t quicken as anticipated when asked for an effort in the home straight and was somewhat one-paced in its finishing effort which she attributed to the seven days between runs. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
 
Race 2: U&U RECRUITMENT CLASS 6 HANDICAP         1200 Metres
 
HATCHET – Raced in restricted room shortly after the start and lost ground. Restrained from heels approaching the 800m.
 
MILLANE – Laid out near the 1000m.
 
VODKA MARTINI – Began awkwardly.
 
SAFEWORK – Raced in restricted room shortly after the start and lost ground.   
 
LOST IN TRANSIT – Shifted in under pressure leaving the 300m.
 
TICK TOCK QUEEN – Shifted in shortly after the start and bumped HATCHET.
 
MY SNOW QUEEN – Over raced during the middle stages. Inconvenienced and obliged to shift out and away from the heels of LOST IN TRANSIT leaving the 300m.
 
APRIL IN AUGUSTA – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 1000m, commenced to over race and shifted out abruptly when awkwardly placed at the heels of BURNING BELL. Raced wide throughout. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
 
 
Race 3: NOVA 106.9 THE PHOENIX     1500 Metres
 
BEAU DAZZLER (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Commenced to race ungenerously for a short distance leaving the 1200m.
 
ITALIAN DANCER – Over raced during the early and middle stages.
 
IMPERIALIST (NZ) – Raced wide with cover.
 
ENIDZEL – Slow to begin. Leaving the 1400m, bumped and forced inwards making contact with the running rail becoming unbalanced.
 
AEMELIUS – Shifted out near the 200m.
 
CANARA – Over raced during the middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Obliged to alter course at the 50m.
 
PULPIT – Slow to begin. Leaving the 1400m, was contacted and carried inwards by BEAU DAZZLER resulting in the filly bumping heavily with ENIDZEL, becoming severely unbalanced and losing ground. Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor was found guilty of a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that he directed his mount in abruptly causing PULPIT to be restrained and lose its rightful running and forcing ENIDZEL to contact the running rail and lose ground. Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor’s license to ride in races was suspended for 17 days commencing at midnight the 15th of June 2024 and ending at midnight the 2nd of July 2024. Jockey Wilson-Taylor was advised of his right of appeal.  Laid in under pressure during the early stages of the home straight.
 
MISS TRUSTFUL – Approaching the 200m, carried wider by IMPERIALIST which shifted out to improve.
 
BLANTONS RUN – Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 4: LADBROKES LIGHTNING HANDICAP         1000 Metres
 
SHOOTING FOR GOLD – Began awkwardly.
 
RUBIQUITOUS – Laid out throughout.
 
KING KAPA – Began awkwardly shifted out and bumped XTRAVAGANT STAR, and then continued to shift out despite the efforts of its rider causing outside runners to be inconvenienced.  
 
DEEPOUR – Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight.
 
HARDWARE LANE – Jockey B. Shinn reported that HARDWARE LANE was obliged to race wide throughout and failed to finish off as expected. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to making an upper respiratory noise. Trainer Mr J. Smerdon was advised that HARDWARE LANE will require a veterinary clearance including the results of an endoscopic examination prior to racing again.
 
LE MELODY – Began awkwardly and a short distance later had to be steadied from heels and lost ground.
 
XTRAVAGANT STAR – Crowded on jumping and lost ground. When asked to comment on the performance of the mare, jockey J. Kah stated that she was disappointed with the finishing effort of the mare and in her opinion may have come to the end of its preparation. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  Trainer C. Maher was advised to report back on the future racing plans of the filly.
 
STEADY READY – Shifted in on jumping and bumped XTAVAGANT STAR.
 
SHALAA'S MOMENT – Bumped and carried inwards shortly after the start and had to be checked from heels resulting in the mare losing ground. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight until the 100m before shifting out to improve.
 
FLAMING CONQUEST – Over raced during the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer Mr D. Murphy was advised that under the provisions of AR79(4) that FLAMING CONQUEST will be unable to start in a race for three months and must gallop of trial over 1000m in the presence of a Steward prior to racing again.   
 
 
 
Race 5: NUTURF SPEAR CHIEF HANDICAP     1500 Metres
 
SURF DANCER (IRE) – When asked to comment on the performance of the gelding, jockey A. Hyeronimus reported that the gelding over raced during the early stages and had a tendency to lay out throughout. He added that when he asked for an effort entering the home straight, SURF DANCER failed to respond to his efforts, he desisted from pressuring the gelding for the remainder of the event. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Co-trainer Mr A. Bott advised Stewards that it is the intention of the stable to experiment with the gelding’s gear on return to the Sydney stable. He added that he will report back to Stewards on the post race condition of SURF DANCER.  Co-trainer Mr A. Bott was advised that SURF DANCER must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
 
NAMAZU – Raced keenly during the early and middle stages.  
 
YELLOW BRICK – Raced keenly during the middle stages.  
 
COASTWATCH – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
 
KALINO – Began awkwardly and lost ground. When attempting to shift out to improve at the point of the home turn, was disappointed for a run between DEVASTATE and NAMAZU, and as a result was obliged to shift in to improve.
 
DEVASTATE (NZ) – Raced wide throughout. Cast the off fore plate in running.
 
TIMES SQUARE (FR) – Began awkwardly and a short distance later faltered in its action  and was retired from the event. A post race veterinary examination revealed a fracture to the near shoulder and the mare was humanely euthanised. Post mortem samples were taken and the mare was sent for autopsy.
 
MISSISSIPPI PRINCE – Began awkwardly.
 
 
Race 6: ASCOT GREEN QUEENSLAND DAY STAKES    1200 Metres
 
HEDGED – Began awkwardly. Over raced during the middle stages and had to be restrained from heels near the 700m.  
 
MORAVIA – Began awkwardly. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
 
SKIRT THE LAW – Over raced for a short distance leaving the 900m. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey T. Berry reported weakened noticeably over concluding stages and he became concerned with the filly’s action on pulling up. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be stepping short.
 
INHIBITIONS – Raced wide throughout.
 
TIGER SHARK – When asked to comment, jockey C. Williams stated that TIGER SHARK travelled well throughout, however in the home straight she did not let down as expected. Trainer N. McCall was asked to report back to Stewards on anything that may come to light that may have affected the fillies’ performance.
 
OUTWEIGHED – Bumped shortly after the start. Over raced during the early and middle stages. Passing the 900m, commenced to shift out whilst over racing. When questioned, jockey S. Cormack reported that near the 900m, when racing keenly, the filly improved onto the heels of OSTRAKA and blundered. Approaching the 700m momentarily placed in restricted room and had to be steadied.
 
GENZANO – Slow to begin.
 
POWER BALLARD – Raced wide throughout.
 
ZIA – Began awkwardly.
 
AVONE – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped OUTWEIGHED. Raced wide throughout.
 
ROSE NOIR – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 7: MAGIC MILLIONS NATIONAL CLASSIC         1600 Metres
 
LA CRIQUE (NZ) – Raced wide with cover from the 900m.
 
OSMOSE (FR) – Bumped and forced wider leaving the 900m by LA CRIQUE which shifted out to improve.
 
THALASSOPHILE – Slow to begin.
 
MARACANA (NZ) – Raced wide throughout.
 
QUEENMAKER – Commenced to over race leaving the 1100m.
 
 
Race 8: SEVEN QUEENSLAND OAKS 2200 Metres
 
MOLLY BLOOM (NZ) – Hampered on jumping. When asked to comment on the performance of the filly, jockey B. Shinn stated that MOLLY BLOOM raced flat, and in his opinion, didn’t run out the 2200m. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
SCARLET OAK – Underwent a post race veterinary examination which revealed the filly to be making an upper respiratory noise. Trainer’s representative Mr B. Killion was advised that the filly will require a veterinary clearance including the results of an endoscopic examination, as well as a satisfactory barrier trial prior to racing again.
 
MOONLIGHT MAGIC (NZ) – When asked to comment on the performance of MOONLIGHT MAGIC, jockey M. Dee stated that in his opinion, the filly failed to handle the seven day backup between runs. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
MOLLYNICKERS – Hampered on jumping.
 
SOCKS NATION – Shifted in at the start. When asked to comment on the seemingly improved performance, trainer C. Maher reported that he wasn’t surprised with today’s forward showing and that SOCKS NATION benefited by how the race was run in the early stages. He added that the filly had pleased in its work leading up to today’s event.
 
AHURIRI (NZ) – Raced wide throughout.
 
GOOD BANTER (NZ) – Raced in restricted room passing the winning post on the first occasion.
 
MARE OF MT BULLER – Bumped shortly after the start.
 
OCEANS OF ENERGY – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
KIND WORDS – Raced wide throughout.
 
GENTILESCHI – Bumped with MARE OF MT BULLER on jumping.
 
CONCELLO – Underwent a pre race veterinary inspection after becoming fractious in the barriers and was cleared to start.  
 
FIRESTORM (NZ) – Raced wide throughout
 
 
Race 9: THE STAR MORETON CUP     1200 Metres
 
JIGSAW – Raced keenly during the early stages.
 
MAZU – Raced keenly during the early stages.
 
VILANA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
THE BIG GOODBYE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced keenly during the middle stages. Jockey B. Shinn reported that in his opinion, the gelding failed to handle today’s track conditions.
 
AT WITZ END – Raced keenly during the early stages.
 
WHAT YOU NEED – Jockey C. Williams reported that he wasn’t disappointed with the performance of the horse, and being first time running in the clockwise direction, in his opinion, will derive benefit from the run.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
NETTUNO – Raced wide throughout.
 
LEKVARTE (NZ) – Slow to begin. Approaching the 800m laid in and brushed the running rail at its own accord.
 
OPAL RIDGE – Raced wide throughout.
