Harley +0.5kg (56kg) As Apprentice A. Donald was not riding due to illness, Stewards permitted the rider change(s) as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Apprentice A. Donald was advised she would require medical clearance prior to resuming. Stewards accepted the explanations tendered for the declaration of late riders. Race 1: THE GIBSON MAIDEN HANDICAP 1400 M LISTENTOZOU (NZ) – Connections advised a change of tactics, to be ridden in the back half of the field if circumstances permit. Over raced in the early stages whilst being restrained to obtain cover. Held up for clear running from the 500m until entering the home straight. PAPAL WARS (NZ) – Jockey M. Rodd reported his mount hung throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting clinical signs of a poor recovery. Trainer S. Kendrick advised he will report back on the gelding’s condition in the subsequent days. FORT DENISON – Slow to begin. HARRIET (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority of the event. Jockey N. Beriman reported the mare failed to travel at any stage of the event and could offer no further explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be exhibiting clinical signs of a poor recovery. DISCOVER (NZ) – Slow to begin. PAUL EDWARD – Began awkwardly momentarily unbalancing its rider. Race 2: SPRING CARNIVAL BOOK NOW QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 M CHIEF IN CHARGE – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the middle stages of the event. Passing the 300m, shifted in becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of RISING RUBY before having to be corrected. ZELEZNY – Bumped at the start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. ZOU BIG BOY – Slow to begin. Passing the 700m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of CHILPUR which shifted in to obtain cover when insufficiently clear. Apprentice J. Williams as the rider of CHILPUR was charged for careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) in that approaching the 700m, he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear resulting in ZOU BIG BOY (D. Smith) having to check to avoid that runner’s heels. Apprentice J. Williams’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of twelve (12) days, commencing midnight Saturday 5 October 2024 concluding midnight Saturday 19 October 2024. PROMINENT LAD – Bumped at the start. CHILPUR – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped with ZELEZNY. RISING RUBY – Began awkwardly and bumped with PROMINENT LAD. SHERAQUAY – Bumped with TELLS ME TO at the start. TELLS ME TO – Bumped with SHERAQUAY at the start. After the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a Soft 7 at 2:13pm. Race 3: SKY RACING MAIDEN PLATE 1000 M COSMIC BEAUTY underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after becoming fractious and contacting the mounting enclosure rail. The start of this race was delayed when COSMIC BEAUTY became fractious in the barriers and was subsequently declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 2:41pm. Trainer J. Dunn was advised the mare would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming. On the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all bets on COSMIC BEAUTY to be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:1st - HELLA FAST – 4c win, 3c place. 2nd - VESPER LYND – 7c place. 3rd - DIBBA DOBBA – 7c place. THROWIN SHADE – Passing the 50m, hampered and carried out by CAPITAL BEAUTY which shifted out whilst weakening. Jockey N. Beriman was reminded of her obligations to stop and straighten her mounts when they shift ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. HELLA FAST – Began awkwardly and hampered shortly thereafter. CAPITAL BEAUTY – Passing the 50m, shifted out marginally whilst weakening tightening the running of THROWIN SHADE. TOWERS HILL – After the running of the race it was noted the gelding had lost its off-fore plate. MISSABEAT – As Jockey J. Bayliss was unable to make weight, he was replaced by Apprentice M. Potgieter as the rider of MISSABEAT. Jockey J. Bayliss was reprimanded pursuant to AR 190(3) for accepting a ride for which he was to be overweight. Began awkwardly. Raced fierce in the early stages of the event resulting in the filly racing four wide. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. DEEP DAWN – Began awkwardly and hampered shortly after jumping. Approaching the 100m, was severely hampered and carried in by TRAPEZE ALERT which shifted in and away abruptly from the heels of HELLA FAST which laid in under pressure. Race 4: NATASHA BLETCHLY 10 YEARS OF SERVICE CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1000 M The start of this race was delayed due to DE FORZA presenting to the mounting yard with the incorrect gear on two occasions (first without winkers, second without a tongue tie). Trainer N. Mayfield-Smith was fined $200 pursuant to AR 106(2) for presenting with the incorrect gear. CAPITAL CHASE – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. DE FORZA – Began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. GENERAL BARCA – Slow to begin. BENGAL DIAMOND – Slow to begin and hampered shortly thereafter. KELANOA – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Race 5: U&U RECRUITMENT BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1600 M HALLSIDE MARTINI – Slow to begin. ROCK YA (NZ) – Began awkwardly. SANBANO – Checked near the 250m when ROCK YA (NZ) shifted in. Jockey A. Thompson as the rider of ROCK YA (NZ) was charged for careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) in that passing the 250m, he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear resulting in SANBANO (Apprentice J. Williams) to check. Jockey A. Thompson’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of ten (10) days, commencing midnight Monday 7 October 2024 concluding midnight Thursday 17 October 2024. AERIAL BAY – Passing the 1400m, momentarily inconvenienced by ROCK YA (NZ) which shifted in. Jockey A. Thompson was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. SOKUDO – As Jockey J. Morris was unable to make weight, he was replaced by Jockey D. Smith as the rider of SOKUDO. Jockey J. Morris was fined $200 pursuant to AR 190(3) for accepting a ride for which he was to be overweight. Slow to begin. NITROGLYCERINE – Tightened at the start between runners. EMBOLDEN (NZ) – Restrained near the 1400m when SANBANO shifted in when insufficiently clear. Apprentice J. Williams as the rider of SANBANO was charged for careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) in that near the 1400m, he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear resulting in EMBOLDEN (NZ) (M. Harley) having to check his mount to avoid that runner’s heels. Apprentice J. Williams’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of fourteen (14) days, to be served concurrently with the suspension occurred in Race 2, to commence midnight Saturday 5 October 2024 concluding midnight Saturday 19 October 2024. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. After the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a Soft 6 at 4:03pm. Race 6: XXXX BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1200 M DAMO DAYZ – Slow to begin. Passing the 900m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of OUTBURST which shifted in. Apprentice M. Potgieter was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Passing the 500m, was momentarily inconvenienced by COUNT NICHOLAS who was carried out by MORE LOVE who was carried wide by JUKEBOX GLOW which shifted out to improve. Jockey M. Hellyer was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. ANTONITO (NZ) – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting a poor recovery. ANARCHY – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. CAPITAL CEE – Began awkwardly. JUKEBOX GLOW – Shifted out passing the 500m to secure clear running. COUNT NICHOLAS – Began awkwardly. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages to the inside of DAMO DAYZ which shifted in under riding. Jockey N. Callow was reminded of his obligations to stop and straighten his mounts when they shift ground. Race 7: LADBROKES EASY FORM CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1400 M Correct weight was delayed allowing N. Beriman rider of third placegetter LUDOVISIto view the Stewards footage. After doing so, she elected not to pursue the matter further and correct weight was declared. STARRY EYES – Began awkwardly. LUDOVISI – Held up for clear running for a short distance passing the 500m. REGAL EDITION – Passing the 800m, had to be steadied off heels after the pace of the race slackened. NEOCLASSICISM – Blundered on jumping. Over raced and near the 900m had to be steadied to avoid heels. WHAT A WEEKEND– As Apprentice C. Collis was unable to make weight and there no replacement available, Stewards permitted Apprentice C. Collis to claim 2.5kg of his 3kg allowance. Apprentice C. Collis was fined $400 pursuant to AR 143(14)(a) for failing to claim his full allowance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. MARTEDI – Began awkwardly and lost ground. UMETINI – Slow to begin. FEARLESS THINKING (NZ) – Over raced in the early stages. Momentarily held up upon entering the home straight. Jockey T. Brooker reported her left foot contact the inside barrier partition on jumping. BETTER STRINGS – Permission was given for Jockey C. Waddell to replace Apprentice A. Donald as no claiming apprentice was available to ride the weight. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
