GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweights:
Race 1 – J. Huxtable +0.5kg
 
Race 1: SPRING CARNIVAL BOOK NOW QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE  1600 M
 
BELMONT PARK – Began awkwardly and bumped CAPTAIN GOOD VIBES. Over raced in the early stages.
 
CAPTAIN GOOD VIBES – Bumped after start.
 
SAVANNAH GANGSTER – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped CHAMPAGNE ROUGE. Raced wide throughout.
 
STAPLETON – Raced in restricted room passing the 800m and again near the 600m.
 
UNEGA WAHY'A – Bumped heavily after the start. When asked to comment on today’s performance, Apprentice M. Potgieter stated that his mount travelled comfortably throughout the event although in the final 200m, commenced to weaken and elected to not test his mount over the concluding stages. Apprentice M. Potgieter further added that in his opinion the gelding may have failed to run out the 1600m. Trainer J. Zielke would report back to Stewards if anything was to come to light in the days subsequent. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
CHAMPAGNE ROUGE – Hampered after the start.
 
MISTING – Passing the 500m, momentarily inconvenienced after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of BELMONT PARK which shifted in before being corrected.
 
Race 2: XXXX GOLD CLASS 1 PLATE  1200 M
 
PINKUS – Approaching the 600m, had to be restrained from the heels of GOSPEL GIRL which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey A. Jones was charged and pleaded guilty pursuant to AR 131(a) in that passing the 600m she allowed her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of PINKUS, causing that runner to steady from heels. Jockey A. Jones’ license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days commencing midnight 9/10/2024 up to and including midnight 17/10/2024.
 
THE PLAYER – Bumped on multiple occasions after the start.
 
SULTRY SIREN – Raced wide throughout.
 
TO WISH – Bumped on multiple occasions after the start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
Race 3: EVA AIR MAIDEN PLATE  1200 M
 
SPECIAL MASTER – Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
 
TURN THE CORNER – Began awkwardly.
 
BAJAN CHARM – Raced wide throughout. Jockey M. Butler reported that his saddle slipped on jumping, resulting in his breastplate breaking and when attempting to use his whip on straightening, his whip became entangled with his broken breastplate and as a result dropped his whip passing the 400m.
 
MORGANITE – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after heavily contacting the rail in the mounting yard and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly and shifted in on jumping.
 
ACAPPELLA NOVA – Began awkwardly.
 
SHAQUE D'AMOUR – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
RANCOUR – Hampered after the start.
 
STARSONUS – Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight until the 300m.
 
BERAJONDO – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages. Passing the 800m had to be steadied after improving onto heels.
 
Race 4: AQUIS STALLIONS BM65 HANDICAP  1000 M
 
GLORIOUS RUBY – Slow to begin. Laid out in the early stages of the home straight.
 
CARRIBEAN KING (NZ) – Jockey A. Mallyon reported at scale that his mount proved disappointing and on pulling up from the event was coughing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying cardiac arrythmia. Trainer M. Dunn was advised they must obtain a veterinary clearance inclusive of ECG results and gallop 1000m prior to the gelding being permitted to race again.
 
TIZ ENUF – Raced wide throughout. Jockey R. Maloney reported that his mount felt flat throughout the event and failed to travel in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
CITY CHICK – Began awkwardly.
 
BEACHSIDE BABE – Began awkwardly.
 
Race 5: U&U RECRUITMENT BM65 HANDICAP  1600 M
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey N. Callow to view the footage in the home straight.
 
KOKONOTSU – When asked to comment, Jockey J. Orman could offer no explanation for today’s disappointing performance. Trainer T. Gollan advised he would report back on the future racing plans of the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. A post-race swab was taken.
 
MR WANDJI – When asked to comment on today’s performance, Apprentice J. Molloy reported that in his opinion the gelding failed to run out today’s distance. Trainer T. Dougall stated that he concurred with Apprentice J. Molloy’s comments and would advise Stewards if anything further was to come to light regarding today’s performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
SECURITY ADVISOR – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
HOUSTON ROCKET – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
THE IRISH (IRE) – Approaching the 250m was disappointed for a run between HATASU and OLD SONG, as a result shifted in and was able to obtain clear running over the final 150m.
 
OLD SONG – Approaching the winning post, momentarily inconvenienced by HOUSTON ROCKET which laid in under pressure.
 
KAIROS LOUIE (NZ) – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Approaching the 200m was obliged to shift out to improve.  
 
GLEBE (NZ) – Passing the 50m, raced in restricted room for a number of strides.
 
Race 6: LADBROKES ODDS SURGE BM68 HANDICAP  1400 M
 
POSEIDON RULER – Near the 600m, had to be restrained after improving onto heels. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and shifted wider in an attempt to improve and was unable to improve into clear running until passing the 150m.
 
DROP THE MIC – Over raced when being restrained passing the 800m. Held up for clear running from the 400m up until the 300m. Passing the 70m, shifted in brushing the running rail when improving to the inside of LOVEWILLCOMELATER.
 
SUNLORD – Began awkwardly. Trapped wide in the early stages and was allowed to stride forward to take up a leading position near the 1000m.  Raced wide for the majority. When questioned regarding today’s performance, Jockey J. Orman reported that it was not his intention to settle so far forward, but after being trapped wide in the early stages, he was obliged to pressure is mount to obtain a leading position rather than being trapped wide and in his opinion the gelding is better suited settling further back. Trainer T. Gollan reported that in his opinion the gelding was disadvantaged how the race panned out with SUNLORD leading, though he does not anticipate anything wrong with the gelding, nonetheless he will report back on the condition of the gelding in the days subsequent. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
ZAKIYYA – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Over raced in the middle stages and approaching the 700m had to be restrained after improving onto heels.
 
CAVAUP – Raced wide throughout. Momentarily inconvenienced approaching the 900m after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of SUNLORD which shifted in to obtain a position outside the lead. Jockey J. Orman rider of SUNLORD was reminded of his obligations to be clear when shifting ground in future. Near the 150m, obliged to steady after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of SUNLORD which shifted out and away from MAGIC ISLAND which improved to that runner inside. Jockey A. Mallyon stated that he could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. Trainer M. Dunn reported that it was his intention to drop back in grade and added in his opinion that the mare is better suited to tracks with more give. He also added that he would report back on the mare’s condition in the days subsequent.
 
MAGIC ISLAND – Passing the 700m, over raced whilst racing in restricted room. Held up for clear running until the 150m.
