Stewards permitted the following overweights:
Race 2 – N. Callow +0.5kg
Race 8 – M. Harley +0.5kg
Race 8 – N. Callow +0.5kg
Race 9 – N. Callow +0.5kg
Race 9 – R. Maloney +0.5kg
 
As Jockey J. Huxtable was overweight in Race 2, Stewards permitted Jockey N. Callow to replace him. Stewards also permitted N. Callow to ride +0.5kg as there was no other suitable rider to replace J. Huxtable. Jockey J. Huxtable was fined $200 pursuant to AR 190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight.
 
Race 1: ST RITA’S COLLEGE CLASS 4 PLATE 1000 M
 
MR GALAZI – Raced wide throughout.
 
SPIRITUALISED – Began awkwardly and bumped BIOGRAPHER. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey J. Orman stated after being first up from a long spell, the gelding would derive benefit from today’s run and appreciate a step up in distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
BIOGRAPHER – Began awkwardly and bumped SPIRITUALISED. Raced wide throughout.
 
IT'S RAINING AGAIN – Restrained from a wide barrier to a position closer to the rail. Held up during the early stages of the home straight.
 
NIPOTINO – Shifted out on jumping. Apprentice T. Felon reported her mount hung out during various stages of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
SUPER DAISY – Slow to begin.
 
RUSSIAN MINT – Over raced in the early stages.
 
Race 2: ROAD TO MAGIC MILLIONS ON SALE NOW BM78 HANDICAP       2400 M
 
HECTOR DE MARIS (IRE) – Over raced during the early and middle stages.
 
COUP DE TONNERRE – Brushed with BEDFORD SQUARE (NZ) passing the 1700m. Caught wide in the early stages until permitted to stride forward and take up a position outside the leader near the 1600m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have mild heat stress.
 
BEDFORD SQUARE (NZ) – Trainer J. Bruce advised a change of tactics and BEDFORD SQUARE (NZ) will be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. Brushed with COUP DE TONNERRE for a short distance passing the 1700m
 
CLASSIC DEEL – Slow to begin and bumped by TORQUE LEICA STAR shortly after. Raced in restricted room for a short distance passing the 200m after INTUITU shifted out to improve. Jockey A. Jones rider of INTUITU was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident.
 
TORQUE LEICA STAR – Bumped after the start.
 
SIR LEONIDAS – Began awkwardly.
 
HELL FOLLOWS – Trainer C. Anderson advised Stewards it was now his intention to send the mare for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have mild heat stress.
 
Race 3: XXXX NO METRO WINS HANDICAP 1400 M
 
STRIPPED BACK – Over raced during the early stages.
 
ZHUANG SHI – Began awkwardly and was bumped shortly after the start.
 
AMERICAN PHIREBALL – Slow to begin. Had to be restrained passing the 1100m when awkwardly placed on heels.
 
DAMO DAYZ – Raced wide during the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying mild heat stress.
 
MR WANDJI – Shifted out on jumping. Over raced during the early stages.
 
LUDOVISI – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying mild heat stress.
 
DROP THE MIC – Over raced during the early stages.
 
BAT PAD – Bumped after the start. Apprentice T. Fenlon on return to scale reported that it wasn’t her intention to lead in today’s event, but after beginning well, the mare found itself in a leading position and after being challenged in the early stages by MR WANDJI, her mount commenced to race keenly and was reluctant to settle.
 
TIME TO TESTIFY – Shifted out after the start and bumped BAT PAD. Over raced during the early stages.
 
JEALOUS – Over raced during the early stages.
 
Race 4: EVA AIR OPEN HANDICAP 1830 M
 
JUNIPAL – Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight.
 
TIDAL CREEK – Steadied from the heels of MENAZZI near the 1500m.
 
LOGAN STREET LION (NZ) – Over raced in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
HYDE – Over raced during the early and middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying mild heat stress.
 
KORUTO – Slow to begin.
 
Race 5: SOUTHERN PACIFIC SANDS BM78 HANDICAP         1600 M
 
INDIAN DREAMER – Slow to begin. When asked to comment on today’s event Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester reported that his mount failed to travel throughout any stage of the event.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer T. Edmonds stated that he would report back in the days subsequent on the condition of the gelding.
 
KERCHAK (NZ) – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
 
CLYDE – Raced wide early until passing the 1000m.
 
IVERSON – Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight.
 
EVOCATOR – Approaching the 1200m when the pace of the race slackened, had to be restrained after improving onto the heels of INDIAN DREAMER and continued to be restrained off heels for a short distance after. Laid in on entering the home straight and near the 300m became awkwardly placed on the heels of KIRIKAN (NZ). When asked to comment on today’s performance, Apprentice C. Collis reported that his mount was over racing during the early stages and proved difficult to settle, particularly approaching the 1200m.
 
TALK TIME – Over raced during the early stages.
 
KIRIKAN (NZ) – Over raced during the early stages.
 
Race 6: CLEAR TO WORK ST RITA’S CLASS 2 HANDICAP         1200 M
 
END ASSEMBLY – Began awkwardly and bumped TRES REDOUTE.
 
EXCEED SPEED – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped MILTON ROAD (NZ). Restrained passing the 1000m when racing in restricted room.
 
RUNWITHTHETIDE – Raced wide early. Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester reported that it was first up for the gelding and had to work hard in the early stages from a wide barrier which had a detrimental effect on its finishing effort, however, was not disappointed with today’s performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying clinical signs of the thumps.
 
TELLEZ (NZ) – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
CAPITAL CHASE – Restrained passing the 1000m when racing in restricted room. Momentarily inconvenienced on entering the home straight.
 
TORABELLA – Raced wide throughout. Passing the 300m, had to be restrained from the heels of DEFERENTIAL which shifted out to obtain clear running. Jockey C. Graham rider of DEFERENTIAL was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have mild heat stress. Jockey A. Jones reported that it was first up for the mare and had to work hard in the early stages from a wide barrier which had a detrimental effect on its finishing effort, however, was not disappointed with today’s performance.
 
DEFERENTIAL – Held up approaching the 300m and shifted out leaving the 300m to secure clear running.
 
MASTER GEE – Crowded for some distance leaving the 900m and had to be restrained.
 
MILTON ROAD (NZ) – Bumped on jumping by EXCEED SPEED.
 
TRES REDOUTE – Shifted in on jumping and bumped END ASSEMBLY. Leaving the 400m shifted in and away from CAPITAL CHASE and became awkwardly placed on the heels of TORABELLA and had to be steadied. Continued to be awkwardly placed at that runner’s heels for a short distance until leaving the 300m.  
 
Race 7: PLACE ASCOT BM90 HANDICAP 1200 M
 
BUBBA'S BAY – Lost its off fore plate.
 
EKATERINA – Jockey M. Harley reported that he became concerned with the action of the mare over the concluding stages and elected not to pressure his mount in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainers’ representative for R. Heathcote was advised to report back in the days subsequent regarding the condition of the mare.
 
OVIDIUS – Commenced to over raced after being crossed when insufficiently clear. Rider C. Collis rider of BUBBA’S BAY was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight until the 300m.
 
ART BY CONCORDE – Shifted in on jumping and bumped EXOTIQUE MISS.
 
EXOTIQUE MISS – Slow to begin and bumped ART BY CONCORDE. Shortly after jumping away, had to be checked and was tightened by ART BY CONCORDE which was tightened by BUBBA’S BAY which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Apprentice C. Collis rider of BUBBA’S BAY was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding.
 
Race 8: MADISON CLEANING QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD HANDICAP 1400 M
 
GIN A TONIC – Began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
ALPHA BRAVO – Over raced during the early and middle stages.
 
ESTRONDO – Hampered on entering the home straight by PROMINENT LAD which shifted out to obtain clear running. Jockey N. Callow rider of PROMINENT LAD was reminded of his obligations to be sufficiently clear when shifting ground. When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey J. Orman stated that he was disappointed with today’s performance and failed to let down as expected. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have mild heat stress.
 
PROMINENT LAD – Raced wide throughout. Laid out rounding the home turn. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
 
APUNTAR – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Approaching the 1200m, commenced to over race after being crossed by ESTRONDO as the pace of the race commenced to slacken. When asked to comment on todays improved performance, Trainer K. Kemp stated that the gelding had pleased in its work leading into today’s event and he was hoping for a more forward showing at Eagle Farm where the gelding would benefit racing on a wider track.
 
FAMILY OF LEAGUE – Raced wide throughout. Jockey J. Bayliss reported that in his opinion the filly had run its race and was sweating prior to running and in his opinion ran accordingly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have mild heat stress.
 
I'M HEROIC – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
TIME TO CRY – Began awkwardly.
 
Race 9: CANADIAN CLUB BM70 HANDICAP 1830 M
 
The start of this event was slightly delayed after the rider of KIND WISH (NZ) became concerned with the action of the hind quarters of the mare in the preliminary, subsequently Jockey M. Harley withdrew his service, and the mare was declared a late scratching at 4:43pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards declared all bets placed on KIND WISH (NZ) to be refunded with the following deductions:
1st – CEREMONIOUS - 4c win, 5c place
2nd – NEW JOY - 5c place
3rd – NAVAL SEAL - 4c place
 
Trainer L. White was advised KIND WISH (NZ) would require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
 
MY PINS (NZ) – Approaching the 400m, improved to the inside of PORKY and raced in restricted room for a number of strides.
 
DEMON DARB – When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey J. Bayliss stated that the gelding travelled well throughout the event although when placed under pressure, proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying a harsh respiratory noise. Trainer R. Heathcote was advised DEMON DARB would require a veterinary clearance inclusive of endoscopic results.
 
HOUSTON ROCKET – Passing the 150m, became awkwardly placed on the heels of DEMON DARB which was weakening.
 
PORKY –When asked to comment on today’s performance, Apprentice E. Lang stated that from a wide barrier, she had to work harder during the early stages and in her opinion the gelding may benefit from a drop down in distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
NAVAL SEAL – Laid in under pressure.
 
ULTIMATE OUTCOME – Over raced during the early stages of the event. Awkwardly placed on the heels of ROCK YA (NZ) for a considerable distance passing the 1400m.
 
ROCK YA (NZ) – Commenced to race fiercely in the early stages passing the 1600m, shifted wider forcing NEW JOY wider on the track.
 
Race 10: LADBROKES OWN SPRING BM68 HANDICAP 1400 M
 
DRAMMATICA – Declared a late scratching at 4:28pm on veterinary advice after the mare had swelling to its near foreleg. Trainer T. Gollan was advised DRAMMATICA would require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
 
AMERICAN PRESIDENT – Began awkwardly. Hampered when racing in restricted room passing the 150m to the inside of THE DEPUTY (NZ) which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider, as a result had to be steadied and could not be fully testing over the final 100m.
 
UNCLE RUSS – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
ZAKIYYA – Momentarily inconvenienced approaching the 200m after becoming awkwardly placed at the heels of SCHMOOZER.
 
STRIKING PLAINS (NZ) – Held up for clear running from passing the 300m up until the 150m.
 
CARTWHEELS – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
 
THE DEPUTY (NZ) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
