GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweights:
Race 7 – J. Huxtable +0.5kg.

As Apprentice C. Collis was injured, he was subsequently replaced as per the Race Day Summary. Apprentice C. Collis was advised he would require a medical clearance prior to resuming.

Race 1: RACECOURSE VILLAGE QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1200 M

SPACE RIDER – Near the 200m, brushed by NORTH POLE, which shifted out under pressure. A. Jones, rider of NORTH POLE, was reminded of her obligation to stop and straighten her mount. Jockey J. Orman reported that he had to work reasonably hard at the start to obtain a forward position, however when placed under pressure in the home straight, his mount failed to respond and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. A post-race swab was collected. Co Trainer M. Kent Jnr advised Stewards that he was also surprised that the colt did not show more early speed and was disappointed with SPACE RIDERS performance. He further added that their intention is to give the colt a short freshen up and would also advise Stewards if anything was to come to light in the following days.

NORTH POLE – Began awkwardly. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight. Near the 200m, brushed with SPACE RIDER.

RASCAL BOI – Hampered after the start and lost ground.

DESTINYS SUMMIT – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide throughout.

PRIDE OF NASHVILLE – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide throughout. Raced greenly during the early stages of the home straight when placed under pressure.

DUSHENKA – Shifted in on jumping.

IDYLLIC AFFAIR – Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.

MIDWEST PRINCESS – Crowded shortly after the start.

Race 2: STRADBROKE SEASON ON SALE SOON BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 2200 M

CASHIN' CHEX (NZ) – Slow to begin. Near the 1000m when the pace of the race slackened, steadied from heels. Leaving the 50m, improved onto heels and steadied.

IVERSON – Approaching the 1100m, commenced to over race when the pace of the race steadied.

LIONEL (GB) Held up rounding the home turn. Approaching the 1100m, commenced to over race when the pace of the race steadied.

BEDFORD SQUARE (NZ) – Obliged to shift wider when the pace of the race steadied approaching the 1100m. Raced wide without cover from that point onwards.

ARTFUL GIRL – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 1400m left a midfield position with cover and was permitted to stride forward to the lead near the 1300m.

CELESTIAL FURY (NZ) – Approaching the 1100m, commenced to over race when the pace of the race steadied. Approaching the 300m, became momentarily awkwardly placed at the heels of LIONEL (GB).

VENTUROUS – Over raced during the early stages.

VERMEER – Bumped at the start.

AMALGAMATION – Connections advised a change of tactics and would attempt to settle further forward. Unable to muster early speed and settled in a rearward position with cover. Approaching the 1100m, commenced to over race when the pace of the race steadied. Approaching the 100m improved onto heels and was obliged to shift in.

Race 3: THE GIBSON BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1000 M

OUTWEIGHED – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

BLUE SPINEL – Began awkwardly. Raced in restricted room leaving the 800m. Raced wide with cover.

HURTS SO GOOD – Began awkwardly. Raced wide with cover. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

CARRIBEAN KING (NZ) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

ALL STASHED UP – Began awkwardly.

FEMME FATALE – Lost its near fore plate in running.

CRICKETS CHIRPING (NZ) – Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

INVINOVICH – Began awkwardly. Raced in restricted room leaving the 800m. Raced keenly during the middle stages. Momentarily held up on entering the home straight.

UNTOUCHABLE LEGEND – Fractious before the start and as a result began awkwardly and lost ground. Approaching the 100m, disappointed for a run to the inside of KAT CHINNA. Apprentice C. Bellamy rider of KAT CHINNA was reminded of her obligation to stop and straighten her mount when shifting ground. Apprentice B. Wheeler reported that after being slow to begin, he was obliged to race further back than anticipated and in his opinion, this was detrimental to the mare’s overall performance.

Race 4: SKY RACING BENCHMARK 90 HANDICAP 1600 M

DUNE FORTY FIVE – Shortly after the start restrained from the heels of JETTY, which shifted in. Jockey R. Curatolo rider of JETTY was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident. Raced wide throughout.

JETTY – Began awkwardly.

YOUTH SPIRIT (IRE) – Commenced to over race when the pace steadied approaching the 1100m.

HADOUKEN – Laid out shortly after the start. Apprentice J. Franklin reported that he had to make use of the gelding in the early stages in order to hold a forward position and as a result, this may have affected its finishing effort. He further added that in his opinion the gelding may be suited to a distance further than today’s event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.

LINTHORPE LAD – Commenced to over race when the pace steadied approaching the 1100m.

HOLSTEIN – Commenced to over race when the pace steadied approaching the 1100m. Jockey A. Mallyon reported his mount didn’t let down as expected in the home straight and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying the thumps.

RED TOP – Commenced to over race when the pace steadied approaching the 1100m.

KORUTO – Hampered after the start. Commenced to over race when the pace steadied approaching the 1100m. Held up approaching the home turn. Jockey A. Jones reported her mount raced flat and, in her opinion, may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer T. Dougall reported he was disappointed with today’s performance, adding that the gelding was a month between runs and would derive benefit from today’s run. He further added that he would advise Stewards of anything that might come to light in the days subsequent.

Race 5: BECOME A MEMBER BENCHMARK 80 HANDICAP 1200 M

SPACE TRACKER (IRE) – Bumped shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout. Apprentice J. Franklin dropped his offside rein near the 250m before regathering leaving the 100m. Apprentice J. Franklin reported his mount had a tendency to lay in when placed under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have mild heat stress.

FLAG HALL – Approaching the 1000m, commenced to over race and improved to the inside of THYPOON TAAVI, which shifted out slightly entering the first turn despite the efforts of its rider. Became awkwardly placed at THYPHOON TAAVI’s heels for a significant distant until the 700m.

THYPHOON TAAVI – Lost its near hind plate in running.

MINTAKA LAD – Slow to begin.

ZELGARIA – Blundered on jumping and lost ground.

MOUNT FUJI – Began awkwardly and bumped SPACE TRACKER (IRE). Near the 100m, Jockey J. Bayliss dropped his whip.

Race 6: LADBROKES RACING CLUB CLASS 2 PLATE 1200 M

ABOUT TO EXPLODE – Raced wide with cover.

FUKUBANA – Began awkwardly.

IMPENDOR – Raced wide with cover. Leaving the 300m, obliged to steady from the heels of RAVENCLAW, which was taken outwards by BURNETT. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have mild heat stress.

RAVENCLAW – Raced wide throughout. Jockey J. Orman reported his mount failed to let down as expected in the home straight and added the gelding didn’t feel comfortable, therefore he elected to not pressure his mount over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

RED MILE – Leaving the 300m, bumped by RED DEFCON, which shifted in to secure clear running. Laid out under pressure over the final 100m.

RIVER RIBBLE – Slow to begin.

RED DEFCON – Slow to begin. Approaching the 300m, shifted in and bumped RED MILE.

POUTCHEK (GB) – Began awkwardly.

SUSPECT – Approaching the 250m laid out before being corrected by its rider. Leaving the 200m, Jockey J. Huxtable dropped his whip leaving the 200m.

BURNETT – Leaving the 300m, shifted out and away from SUSPECT.

Race 7: XXXX QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1200 M

TORO STRIKE – Jockey T. Marshall reported he was disappointed with today’s performance and that the gelding raced flat. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer J. Mason advised stewards that the gelding had become slightly worked up by the float trip to the races and this may have been the reason for the disappointing performance. Mr Mason further added that he would report back to Stewards if anything was to come to light in the subsequent days that may have had a bearing on the performance of TORO STRIKE.

PROVANCE – Began awkwardly. Jockey V. Duric pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR 132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip 10 times before the 100m, 16 times in totality. Jockey V. Duric’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 days to commence midnight 25/1/2025 up to and including midnight 4/2/2025.

I'M ZAC – Raced wide with cover. Jockey S. Collett reported her mount raced flat throughout. Trainer D. Forster advised that the gelding would now be sent for a spell.

PRO FORMA – Raced wide throughout. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.

FIREFORCE – Jockey J. Orman reported his mount raced keenly during the middle stages.

OUTTA CONTROL – Began awkwardly.

SURPRISE HONEY – Began awkwardly.

VIENNA WHO – Held up rounding the home turn.

RED FEATHER BOA – Raced wide early.

ALPINE RAIDER – Stood flat footed as the start was effected. Trainer P. Butterworth was advised ALPINE RAIDER would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to resuming.

Race 8: MORETON HIRE BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 1600 M

TORABELLA – Approaching the 1000m shifted in, became awkwardly placed at heels and unbalanced for a short distance.

ART BY CONCORDE – Had to be resaddled on arrival to the barriers. Slow to begin. Approaching the 300m, bumped with WHISKY DREAM for a number of strides and became unbalanced.

COLLEAGUES (NZ) – Slow to begin.

HARBOURMASTER – Raced wide with cover. Apprentice B. Wheeler reported that it was his intention to race in a forward position with cover, however he was unable to secure a forward position and was obliged to race wide. Leaving the 200m, momentarily became awkwardly placed at the heels of CHASSAGNE, which shifted out under pressure. Jockey R. Stewart rider of CHASSAGNE was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

WHISKY DREAM – Shifted out shortly after the start. Raced keenly in the early stages. Approaching the 300m, bumped with ART BY CONCORDE for a number of strides and became unbalanced. Laid in under pressure over the final 100m.

COUP DE TONNERRE – Hampered shortly after the start and lost ground.

EXPECTANT – Began awkwardly and shortly after was hampered and lost ground. Raced wide with cover. Approaching the 500m, disappointed for a run between DAMIANI and HARBOURMASTER and steadied.

CHASSAGNE – Raced in restricted room shortly after the start.

ZAHER (NZ) – Leaving the 800m, commenced to race keenly and steadied from heels.

DAMIANI – Bumped after the start. Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer G. Ryan was advised a warning would be placed on the mare.

Race 9: GIRLS DAY OUT 1 MARCH CLASS 6 PLATE 1400 M

GOLDEN DECADE – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.

THE DROVER – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Bumped approaching the 200m.

BATTLEFIELD – Slow to begin.

TENZING (NZ) – Began awkwardly.

THE INFLICTOR – Trainer C. Cousins advised it was now their intention to send THE INFLICTOR for a spell.

DEEP RESPECT – Raced wide with cover. Bumped approaching the 200m.

IVAN'S HERO – Connections advised a change of tactics and would attempt to settle further forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly.

ADIELLA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Approaching the winning post, Jockey J. Stanley dropped his whip.

Race 10: LADBROKES PUNTER ASSIST BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1400 M

OUR MAGNUS – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.

BLACK DUKE – Began awkwardly. Over raced near the 1000m. Near the 300m, momentarily dropped her offside rein.

BAD EDUCATION – Checked and lost ground at the 1000m. Approaching the 900m commenced to over race and steadied. Apprentice D. McGillivray rider of OUR MAGNUS was charged and pleaded guilty to careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) in that near the 1100m until approaching the 1000m he allowed his mount to continuously shift in, forcing BAD EDUCATION inwards, resulting in BAD EDUCATION having to be checked from the heels of MAJESTIC BOOM and TAKE A PICTURE, which was racing to the inside of BAD EDUCATION, also having to be checked by its rider. Apprentice D. McGillivray’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 13 days, commencing midnight 18/1/2025 up to and including midnight 31/1/2025. A post-race veterinary examination revealed multiple abrasions to its hind legs along and that the gelding had lost its near hind plate.

BOOM SHOT – Leaving the 300m improved onto heels and was held up until the 150m.

LIBERTY STEPS – Hampered after the start. Leaving the 150m, restrained when disappointed for a run between CHARLIE’S CASE and BONDED AFFAIR.

ANEMACORE – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.

TAKE A PICTURE – Shifted in after the start. Approaching the 1000m, checked from the heels of BAD EDUCATION when that runner was checked and shifted inwards.
