GENERAL
Six riders at this meeting were randomly breath tested. All returned negative samples.
Race 1: XXXX Class 2 Handicap - 1000 metres
1st – INDY MISS 2nd – THEFORCEBEWITHYOU 3rd – OUR FLAIR 4th- ALERT MISS
The start of this race was delayed as the ambulance attended to Trainer W Meek, who had been struck by RUSHATUS as the horses went onto the track.
RUSHATUS (S Sheargold) began awkwardly, jumped out and made contact with the barrier partition.
COPY THIS (A. Coome) bounded in the air and lost ground.
Near the 500 metres, MOSCOW (T. O’Hara) was steadied from the heels of KIARA QUEEN (C Pye) and shifted out.
Near the 400 metres, RUSHATUS eased from the heels of FRAHA (App I French), which was tiring and had shifted in slightly.
DANE VICTORY (L. Dillon) and STARDUST WARRIOR (R Sue-San) raced wide throughout.
Jockey D Evans was cautioned regarding the number of times he used the whip on INDY MISS, when it was clearly winning.
Race 2: Emerald, Qld QTIS 2YO Handicap - 1000 metres
1st –LITTLE WHITE DOVE 2nd – CLAPPERS 3rd – NAVAL BELLE 4th – DESOLATION ROW
CLAPPERS (App M McGillivray) and NAVAL BELLE (T. O’Hara) made heavy contact on jumping.
DAREM (C Pye) began awkwardly.
CLAPPERS and LITTLE WHITE DOVE (A. Coome) both shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
Race 3: Altona, Manitoba Maiden Plate - 1100 metres
1st – THREERIVERSHOTEL 2nd – BARBOUGE 3rd – CRAIGLEA TORQUE 4th – OUR LUCILLE
EXCLUSIVE KITTY was declared a late scratching by order of Stewards at 9.15am.
Trainer P Bailey will be interviewed regarding this matter at a later date.
BARBOURGE (C Pye) and CRAIGLEA TORQUE (S. McGovern) made contact at the start, and BARBOURGE lost some ground.
CRAIGLEA TORQUE raced wide for the majority of the race.
Race 4: Central Highlands Easter Sunflower Festival Class b Handicap - 1300 metres
1st – ABOVE US 2nd – THE PANTZ 3rd – SPANNA 4th – LATIN KING
LIGHTMEUP LUCKY (L. Dillon) was slow into stride.
THE PANTZ (S. McGovern) began awkwardly, shifted in and hampered SPANNA (A. Coome).
ABOVE US (D. Evans) and TOP BUTTON (D. Simmons) began awkwardly.
BLOOMSDAY (J. Stephens) raced fiercely in the early and middle stages and near the 900 metres, restrained from the heels of INDY’S BULLION (C. Pye), which had shifted out, and caused BLOOMSDAY to be tightened onto SPANNA (A. Coome) which had commenced to lay in at this time. BLOOMSDAY shifted out and raced 3 wide for the remainder.
Near the 900 metres, LATIN KING (D. Hayse) over-raced for a short distance.
ABOVE US raced wide from the 600 metres.
ABOVE US and SPANNA hung out around the home turn. Jockey Coome reported he suggested to connections to add Blinkers to the gelding’s gear.
When questioned regarding the performance of INDY’S BULLION, Jockey Pye stated the mare had been placed in a positive position and had travelled well throughout, however was under pressure and lost ground from the 400m. She further stated that the mare may be feeling the effects of recent racing.
Race 5: Helloworld BM 75 Handicap- 1300 metres
1st – A DEPENDANT 2nd – POWER TO EXCEED 3rd – MISTABLISTA 4th – POPNAE
At the start, POWER TO EXCEED (D. Evans) was tightened between A DEPENDANT (T. O’Hara) and SIR STANEY (D. Hayse) when both runners shifted ground.
Jockey L. Dillon reported that MISTABLISTA lay in around the home turn and his whip had become entangled when he attempted to straighten.
Jockey D Evans was fined $200 under AR 137A (4)(e) in that he struck POWER TO EXCEED on at least one occasion after passing the winning post. In consideration of penalty, Stewards were mindful of Jockey Evans’ recent poor record in regard to whip offences and his caution in Race 1.
