Race 1: Ensham Resources QTIS Maiden Plate 1000m
 
SALTYYS BOY Jockey M Barnham advised stewards that he was to be overweight. He was replaced by Jockey C McIver and was subsequently fined $100.
 
HAYYLERRS TARY Jumped awkwardly.
 
SIDEREUS SMILE Jumped awkwardly.
 
DREAM COMMANDER Slow into stride.
 
JUST MICHAEL Checked over the concluding stages. App. E Bell was found guilty of careless riding in that near the 50 metres she permitted her mount to shift out when not sufficiently clear of JUST MICHAEL, resulting in that horse having to be checked and shift inwards. App. E Bellls license to ride in races was suspended from midnight 21/10/17 up to and including 29/10/17, (8 days). In determining penalty, stewards were mindful that this was her first suspension in relation to careless riding.
 
 
Race 2: The Irish Village BenchMark 50 Handicap 1000m
 
STYLISH LUCK Slow to begin.
 
OVER THE CHOICE Jumped out onto CAMDEN PRINCE.
 
DELANCIA Rider reported that the mare failed to handle the track surface.
 
HURAI Jumped in onto DELANCIA.
 
DRAGONMOSS At approximately the 700 metres, SHEES ON POINT raced ungenerously and shifted in taking MOZZINATOR in onto DRAGONMOSS which was tightened and had to be checked.
 
ALL BAR LILY Near the 100 metres, became awkward and lay in on the heels of OVER THE CHOICE which had shifted out. App R Shred was advised to exercise more care. The mare continued to lay in over the concluding stages.
 
BOLD TRAVELLER Shifted out under pressure approaching the winning post which required the rider to stop and straighten her mount.
 
SHEES ON POINT Raced keenly in the early stages and near the 300 metres was contacted with another runner and became awkward in its stride and was unable to recover with the weight imposed.
 
 
Race 3: John Letts AM BenchMark 65 Handicap 1200m
 
 
I AM BACCHUS Slow to begin. App. N Morton was permitted to claim only a half kilogram of her claim.
 
ELLE SNITZ Slow to begin.
 
SPURRED UP Slow to begin.
 
ELJAY ATOM Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
FRENCH SONG Jumped out onto ONE GREY, which was taken out onto ELJAY ATOM. Rider reported that the mare had failed to handle the wet track from the 600 metres onwards.
 
BANCHORY LASS Near the 1000 metres, AMADEO contacted the hind quarters of OUR BEATNIK which caused that gelding to shift out, which caused AMADEO to be taken out and BANCHORY LASS to suffer interference.
 
OUR BEATNIK When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey P Romeo stated that the horse travelled well in the early stages and from the 300 metres failed to respond to his riding. He also stated that the gelding became awkward in its stride near the 150 metres and may have failed to handle the soft going.
 
 
Race 4: The Maraboon Tavern Class B Handicap 1300m
 
DAINTY STEPPER Jumped in onto CRAIGLEA COPPER.
 
I TRUST LAYLA Jumped awkwardly. App E Bell reminded of the rules in regard to excessive use of the whip. On this occasion her whip use had not breached any specific rule.
 
HAYYLERRS FELL Jumped out onto WHOOS A STAR. At approximately the 900 metres GORGEOUS GAL laid in onto HAYYLERRS FELL. A post-race veterinary inspection revealed a very slow post-race recovery. Subsequent to the race day, Train A Albert informed stewards that the mare may have a respiratory condition and that he would seek further treatment and freshen the horse up.
 
MISTY ISLAND Bumped at the start by CROWN ME LUCKY. In the early stages, was restrained to obtain a position at the rear of the field.
 
 
Race 5: Bentlys (Qld) Emerald 100 Open Handicap 1850m
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Jockey S Sheargold and Trainer J Lancaster viewed the photo finish image and were satisfied as to the judges placings an correct weight was declared.
 
PREEN QUEEN Jumped out onto OUTBACK PIRATE.
 
FASTNET FLYER Slow to begin.
 
FRISKIER Slow to begin. Held up momentarily near the 400m.
 
EYE WINSOME Over raced in the early stages.
 
HUNTER ISLAND Jockey C McIver was fined $100 for excessive use of the whip. In determining penalty, stewards considered his exemplary record.
 
DUTCH COURAGE It was observed that the horse was under pressure from 500m and yielding ground from the 300 metres. Rider questioned with regards to the performance where he stated that given the track conditions he was instructed to ride the horse similar to previous starts. He stated that the mare had travelled well for the majority and he had advanced into the race near the 500 metres and further stated that the mare had changed legs and commenced to hang out near the 300 metres. He placed the mare under some pressure however, as he had concerns he did not pressure the horse in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no physical abnormality however, the mare may have been in season. Stewards will to follow up with Trainer M Oates in the following days.
