Chairman of Stewards – T Hudson
Stewards – J Adams & E Suli (cadet)
Clerk of Scales – Stewards
Judge – M Bulger
Swab Official – C Spencer
Veterinarian – J Atkin-Smith

GENERAL

After arriving on track to inspect the course, Stewards became concerned with a section of the track near the 800m where the course proper meets the 1000m chute. After consultation with Emerald Jockey Club officials, Stewards moved the 1000m races from the chute to the course proper start, allowing the meeting to proceed.

Trainer C Smith contacted Stewards before scratching time to advise that due to road closures in his area after recent rain, he was unable to transport his respective runners and they were withdrawn as a result.

Race 1: DLV FINANCE MAIDEN PLT – 1000M

STREET ROGUE – Was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 11.58am after dislodging its rider enroute to barriers and galloping a significant distance. Stewards ordered the following applicable deductions

27 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets
19 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets for the place
25 cents in the dollar on the face value 2nd place bets.

URBAN YANKEE – Was declared a late scratching at 10.55am after trainer T. Williams advised that he was unable to transport the gelding due to road closures after heavy rain.

NOTORIETY – When questioned about the poor performance, Jockey M Haley reported that the gelding raced greenly throughout and failed to handle the heavy surface at any stage today. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer J Manzlemann was advised a warning would be placed on the competitiveness of the gelding.

PAPER TALK – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground as a result. Trainer R Vaag was advised that a warning would be placed on mare.

DAZZLING SHOW – A post race veterinary examination revealed that the filly had bled from both nostrils. Trainer G Bell was advised of the provisions of AR79(4).

GOLDEN PACKAGE – A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer G Bell was advised the filly, who was beaten significantly, will be required to prove its competitiveness in a barrier trial prior to a future race start.

Race 2: BECOME A MEMBER TODAY 0-60 HCP - 1000M

STYLISH LUCK – Slow to begin.

MISS DEFIANCE – Had to be eased off the heels of NO FINER JET when entering the home straight.

NO FINER JET – In the vicinity of the 750m, had to be steadied when racing in restricted room in between MISS DEFIANCE and BROOK’S PLEASURE.

WESTOVER – Slow to begin.

Race 3: CAPRICORNIA YEARLING SALES CLB HCP – 1000M

At the barriers, apprentice E Smith was struck in the lip and was subsequently examined by Ambulance officials. After being examined, she was passed fit to fulfil her engagements.

RESINITE – Rider D Ballard stated after being slow into stride, his mount then failed to respond to his urgings throughout and was disappointing in its finishing effort. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

ROCKETHEAD – Jumped away awkwardly making contact with the hindquarters of LA CELESTINA.

YOU’RE NOT WANTED. When questioned whether there was an opportunity to take up a position behind the speed rather than be trapped wide, rider D Rewald stated that his mount overraced in the early stages and rather than attempting to restrain, he elected to press wide where the gelding felt comfortable. Stewards noted the explanation.

ZORRO FEMININO – Jumped away awkwardly

LA CELESTINA – Hampered on jumping away. Raced in restricted room approaching the 600m in between ROCKETHEAD and ZORRO FEMININO.

OUR SAY – Reared as the start was affected and lost ground as a result. Hung out in the home straight. Trainer D O’Brien was advised a warning would be placed on the mare.

Race 4: THE ‘ON THE BIT’ AWARDS WFA – 1100M

BLUE JEST – Apprentice D Graham, in the presence of her master, rider of BLUE JEST, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that she permitted her mount to shift in approaching the 750m when insufficiently clear of MONO LAD, which resulted in that runner having to be checked and lose its rightful running. Apprentice D Graham was suspended from riding in races for a period of 6 days, to commence at midnight, 8th February and to expire at midnight, 14th February. Apprentice Graham was advised of her rights to an internal review.

BENCHI PEGASUS – As S McGovern was unable to attend the race meet due to road closures, S Wiseman was substituted as the rider. Slow to begin.

ARRESTAR – Travelled wide in the early stages

MONO LAD – Had to be eased off the heels of ZUKAZ shortly after the start. Had to be checked approaching the 750m to avoid the heels of BLUE JEST.

MARGOT – Held up for clear running entering the home straight and had to shift wider to obtain clear running.

Race 5: TAB RACES 9TH MARCH QTIS CL1 HCP – 1200M

KNUCKLE UP – Apprentice E Smith stated that her mount after being slow to begin, failed to travel at any stage of the race and went to the line in a disappointing fashion. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer G Bell was advised that gelding must barrier trial prior to its next start to prove its competitiveness.

TOO MUCH LIP – Hampered on jumping.

HARVEY STAR – Travelled wide throughout.

KING KAI – When questioned regarding why KING KAI raced further back in the field, rider N Seymour stated that after being slow to begin, he wasn’t able to take up a customary position closer to the speed and as other runners had showed unexpected good pace, he was obliged to ride KING KAI back in the field.

DUAN PHOENIX – Rider M Haley reported that after being slow to begin, he wasn’t able to muster early speed on the heavy track and rather than be trapped wide, he elected to take up a position at the rear of the field. He further added he felt DUAN PHOENIX never really handled the track conditions throughout and went to the line in a disappointing manner.
