TANG DYNASTY – Briefly impeded by a tiring runner near the 200m.

BESTERS –Laid inwards in the home straight under pressure. A post-race veterinarian examination confirmed the gelding had a bilateral bleed. The connections were advised BESTERS was stood down for the mandatory three months and must complete a satisfactory gallop over 1000m in the presence of the Stewards pursuant to AR79(4).

Race 2: ENSHAM RESOURCES QTIS Maiden Plate 1000 metres

There was a significant delay to the start of this race after firstly HAYZENA dislodged its rider on the way to the start and took some time to recapture. One of the clerks of the course horses then broke down and took considerable time to remove from the track. All horses were returned to the tie up stalls prior to returning to the track. All horses were examined by the veterinarian prior to the race and cleared. Apprentice rider S Champkin was examined by QAS and cleared to ride. S McGovern was also cleared to ride after being dislodged by ROSES FOR OLLIE after his saddle slipped while returning to the tie up stalls prior to the race.

ZABCAN – Bucked after approximately 200m. Trainer W Baker was advised ZABCAN was stood down to complete a satisfactory trial. Rider B Moffat was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(6)(c) for using his whip on his mount when it was out of contention.

BETTER CHILL’EM – Bumped with MOONSCAPE near the 200m after laying outwards under pressure. Then proceeded to lay inwards inconveniencing ROSES FOR OLLIE.   Rider A Ross advised the Stewards she had concerns with the mares action over the concluding stage . Due to the veterinarian being unavailable due to treating another horse BETTER CHILL’EM had left the course prior to being examined. Trainer C Taylor advised he would advise Stewards of any abnormalities with the horse in the upcoming days but it was his intention to send it for a spell prior to resuming racing.

HAYZENA –  Was cleared to race after being examined by the veterinarian after dislodging its rider in the preliminary. Jumped away awkwardly and was slow into stride over the early stages. A warning was placed on its pre-race manners after dislodging its rider parading to the start.

ROSES FOR OLLIE – Impeded near the 150m when BETTER CHILL’EM shifted inwards after bumping with another runner. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare had severely tied up and was treated on course by the veterinarian. Trainer W Baker was advised ROSES FOR OLLIE requires a veterinary clearance prior to resuming racing.

MOONSCAPE – Laid inwards in the home straight and bumped with BETTER CHILL’EM which was laying outwards passing the 200m

Race 3: OUTBACK FLOORING EMERALD LIGHTENING OPEN Handicap 1000 metres

BOOT SHAKER – Over raced early and middle stages.

DIVINE RED (NZ) – Slow to begin.

HEZHOME – Raced wide throughout.

ANGELS OF FENWAY – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow away as a result. Raced wide throughout.

BETTER THAN GOLD – Over raced early and middle stages.

KRAVITZ – Slow to begin.

MAGIC TRICK – Raced keenly through the early stages. Held up on the final bend and the early stages of the home straight. Laid inwards from the 250m.

Race 4: FLEXIHIRE/DAVID LOWERY DIESEL REPAIRS BENCHMARK 50 Handicap 1615 metres

FROZE – Improved its position approaching the 1200m after settling in the trail. Laid outwards in home straight. When questioned regarding why she elected to improve her position near the 1200m Apprentice rider S Champkin advised her mount begun to race keenly and she elected to improve as she was struggling to hold the gelding. She felt it was beneficial to race in the open rather than be caught on the fence when she was having difficulty to restrain her mount.

HELLUVA HOFFA – When questioned regarding the performance of HELLUFA HOFFA rider A Butler advised in his opinion the gelding failed to back up from its race at Rockhampton on Tuesday and was also feeling the effects of carrying a heavy weight.

GETOUT OF MY NEIGH (NZ) – Held up final stages when improving onto the heels of MAXIMUM HUSTLE which lay inwards.

MAXIMUM HUSTLE – Laid inwards final stages.

CHEEKY CHOPS – Slow to begin.

Race 5: COUNTRY CUPS CHALLENGE QUALIFIER/EMERALD ISUZU EMERALD “100” OPEN Handicap 1850 metres

Trainer B Johnson requested a late rider change for NECESSITAS due to concerns he had regarding the mannerisms of NECESSITAS which is inclined to prove difficult to ride to the start and settle during a race. Mr Johnson advised although he had secured the services of Apprentice S Champkin that given her inexperience as it was her first day riding, that she had been dislodged from a horse earlier in the day and she had difficulty restraining FROZE in the previous race he had concerns for her safety. Ms Champkin agreed that given the circumstances it would be a better option to replace her. Stewards subsequently agreed to the submissions forwarded on safety grounds and Ms Champkin was replaced with Apprentice E Bell who had ridden the horse on previous occasions.

BATTLE PLANE – Held up approaching the 100m and raced in restricted room over the concluding stages.

RINVIATA (NZ) – Hampered on jumping.

NECESSITAS (NZ) – Over raced early and middle stages. Raced in restricted room rounding the bend leaving the straight. Apprentice rider E Bell advised NECESSITAS had objected to horses racing in close proximity which caused it to race ungenerously.

DIXIE PREACHER – Restrained near the 1700m when racing to the inside of NECESSITAS. Stewards questioned Apprentice riders T Fenlon rider of DIXIE PREACHER, E Bell the rider of NECESSITAS and A Ross the rider of GEOFFROY regarding the incident shortly after the start. Ms T Fenlon advised although she had been racing in restricted room she took hold of her mount on her own accord due to an easing of the pace and she did not apportion blame to any other rider. She added her horse had overreacted when making contact with LI’L RODGE on her inside. Ms Bell advised that her mount proved difficult to control through the early stages of the race and confirmed an easing of the pace shortly after the start. Ms Ross advised she had followed Ms Bell across from a wider draw and was behind her but did not place any extra pressure on her. After hearing evidence from the riders and viewing the replays, the Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied any individual rider was responsible for the incident and no further action was taken.

GEOFFROY – Shifted inwards at the jump hampering another runner.  Raced wide early stages.

FRASCATI MISS (NZ) – Jumped away awkwardly.
