QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT EMERALD JOCKEY CLUB IN EMERALD - SATURDAY – 7TH SEPTEMBER 2024 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good RAIL – True OFFICIALS Chair of Stewards – S StehbensStewards – H Gillett, S Larkins GENERAL Stewards approved the following overweights as there was no other available rider:Race 1 – TOHUKU – A Butler – +2.5kgRace 5 – KEFOLINA – A Butler – +0.5kg Race 1: TJF MILK Maiden Plate (1000 METRES) SO OUTRAGEOUS – Began awkwardly and bumped TOHUKU. Raced wide in the early stages. KUROMI SAMA – Refused to load and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 1:21pm. Stewards ordered all monies invested on KUROMI SAMA be refunded in full and deductions to apply as follows: 5c the win on MIDNIGHT SUMMER (1st)6c the place MIDNIGHT SUMMER (1st)6c the place NOBLE MASTER (2nd)6c the place TERRONA (3rd) Trainer T Simmons was advised that KUROMI SAMA would have to complete a satisfactory official trial prior to racing again. SEND THE MONEY – Slow into stride. Over-raced in the early stages. Had to be restrained from the heels of AGNES WATERS when over racing near the 650m. TOHUKU – Impeded shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout. NOBLE MASTER – Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. PERFORMATIVE – Apprentice H Saunders was reprimanded under AR143(14)(a) for failing to claim her full allowance. When considering penalty stewards were mindful of Ms Saunders guilty plea, her relative inexperience and clear record in relation to the rule. Jumped outwards abruptly at the start bumping heavily with TOHUKU resulting in apprentice H Saunders becoming extremely unbalanced for a number of strides before being dislodged. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Apprentice H Saunders was assessed by QAS officers and was cleared to fulfil her remaining riding engagements. Race 2: EMERALD FORD Class B HANDICAP (1000 METRES) Correct weight was delayed allowing apprentice H Saunders to view the photo finish, after doing so Ms Saunders was satisfied with the judges numbers and correct weight was declared. SPIRIT OF HEATH – Slow into stride. EDWARDS – Slow into stride. Held up for clear running until a point near the 100m. TSUNAMI FORCE – Raced wide in the middle stages. SASSY DIVA – Slow into stride. Over raced in the early and middle stages. Raced wide throughout. BEAN THERE TOO – Raced wide in from a point leaving the 500m. CASA FAGLIANO – Raced wide in the middle stages. Inclined to lay in when placed under pressure. Race 3: NORWELD AUSTRALIA QTIS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP (1280 METRES) HARCH ROAD – Laid out entering the home straight carrying ROYS ROAD and MISTREY EMPEROR wider. ISHOTTHEDEPUTY – Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. ROY’S ROAD – Raced wide in the early stages. Carried wider entering the home straight. YUBETIDO – Slow to begin. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. DISRUPT – Slow to begin and bumped on jumping by SIZZLING SAMURAI. Over raced in the early stages. MISTREY EMPEROR – Began awkwardly. Carried wider entering the home straight. QUEENSLANDER – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. SHE’S OUR EMPRESS – Raced wide in the early and middle stages. SIZZLING SAMURAI – Jumped out at the start bumping DISRUPT. Apprentice J Devine stated that her mount hung out throughout and proved difficult to ride out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the right foreleg. Trainer R Williams reported to stewards that he intends to obtain further veterinary assessments of the gelding and report back to stewards any findings. Mr Williams was advised that SIZZLING SAMURAI would require a veterinary certificate prior to racing again. Race 4: PRIME PLUMBING OPEN HANDICAP (1280 METRES) OUTBACK ACTION – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after racing at Mackay on the 5th of September 2024 and was cleared to start. Slow to begin. FIGHTING COMMANDO – When questioned in relation to the seemingly poor performance apprentice M Apel stated that the gelding had travelled well throughout and in her opinion would be better suited to races over further distances. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. AWOL – Raced keenly in the early stages. Entering the home straight became awkward in it’s action and through its head in the air. When questioned in relation to the seemingly poor performance jockey W Satherley stated that the gelding did not travel throughout and felt flat when asked for an effort. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Trainer G Bell advised that she intended to conduct follow up blood tests and report the findings to stewards. CAPTAIN FOX – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages. MOTION LEGEND – Bounded on jumping. Apprentice N Olzard was fined $300 under AR143(14)(a) for only claiming 0.5kg of her available 1kg allowance. When considering penalty stewards were mindful of Ms Olzard’s guilty plea and her recent poor record in relation to the rule which reflected 5 prior offences in the past six months. SAVOURY (NZ) – Proved difficult to proceed to the barriers. Slow into stride. Trainers representative was advised that a warning would be placed on SAVOURY (NZ) record for its pre-race behaviour. JERRY ZANDA – Slow into stride. Race 5: FARM & CONSTRUCTION PRODUCTS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1615 METRES) DIASONIC – Began awkwardly. DIVINE COURAGE – Raced keenly in the early stages. INSPIRATION – Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. DELIUS – Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. BANKONAJET – Slow to begin. Over raced in the middle stages. ZELSON – Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
