GENERAL

As Apprentice G. Semmens (injury), Jockey D. Boutet (transport) and Jockey C. Semmens was advised a medical clearance would be required prior to her next race ride.

GROWL – Fractious in the barriers prior to jumping. Slow to begin.

SINGLE HONOR – Jumped away awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. Raced wide in the early stages. Raced ungenerously in the home straight.

WORLD CHARMER (NZ) – Raced wide throughout. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Passing the 150m was momentarily inconvenienced when GROWL shifted in. Jockey P. Hamblin was reminded of his obligations to ensure his mounts are clear when shifting ground in future.

EUPHRATES DREAM – Laid out when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.

SEDUCTIVE SPUR – Slow to begin. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 2: EMERALD INN QTIS MAIDEN PLATE (1000 Metres)

CARRARA KING and PROTESTAS both underwent pre-race veterinary examinations after having arrived late on course due a mechanical failure of their transporting vehicle. Both runners were subsequently cleared to start.

BOP 'N' DAN – Jumped away awkwardly. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer C. Dixon advised stewards that he would be consulting with the connections of BOP ‘N’ DAN regarding the gelding’s racing future within his stables. Nonetheless, Trainer C. Dixon was advised that BOP ‘N’ DAN would be restricted to NON-TAB venues until it improves its competitiveness.

BRANDS – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.

CARRARA KING – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to any significant abnormalities. Trainer C. Dore was advised that CARRARA KING would be required to trial due to being uncompetitive prior to its next future race start.

Lenton (ZELSON), Apprentice L. Martyn (LANOVA) and Jockey P. Hamblin (YUBETIDO) and viewing the available replays, it was established that when attempting a run between YUBETIDO and LANOVA, ZELSON had to momentarily restrain and shift outwards when YUBETIDO had laid in and when LANOVA had shifted out marginally at the same time. After taking into consideration all the evidence put forward to the panel, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that either rider could be held accountable, therefore reported it as racing incident.

SHE'S OUR EMPRESS – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.

LANOVA – When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance in today’s event, Trainer D. Rideout reported that the instructions given to the rider were that to settle in the best position possible, depending on how mare starts after having been slow to begin in recent starts. Apprentice L. Martyn confirmed the instructions given and stated that after beginning well today, she allowed her mount to settle in a forward position. Trainer Rideout further added that LANOVA had been working well in the lead up to today’s event and also stated that the step up in distance may have attributed to the improved performance. Stewards noted Trainer Rideout’s explanation.

MY DAY – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.

Race 5: CORNERSTONE RISK GROUP CLASS 3 PLATE (1280 Metres)

ALL BUSINESS (NZ) – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages. When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance in today’s event, Trainer A. Jones advised that ALL BUSINESS (NZ) had recently recovered from a respiratory illness and that the gelding had been recently working well in today’s race preparation to the standard of where he believes it should be and was expecting an improved performance from its recent starts. Stewards noted Trainer Jones’ explanation.
