GENERAL
 
As jockey T Chambers (illness) was indisposed for today’s meeting, CANTOR was declared a late scratching at 10:20am by order of stewards due to there being no other available rider. Jockey Chambers was advised that she would require a medical clearance prior to their next race ride.
 
The following runners all underwent a pre-race veterinary check after having competed at the Thangool meeting on Sunday, 26 January 2025 and were all cleared to start:

Race 5.         KEFALONIA, SADDLES, NATIVE BEE & GIGI FILLE 
 
 
RACE 1: AB POWER BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
 
SILVER HAMMER – Raced wide throughout.
 
INREADYNESS – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages.
 
MARTINI MOMENT – Jumped away very awkwardly and lost ground. Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice N Olzard reported in her opinion that the mare resented the tongue tie, of which it was racing with this piece of gear for the first time. She further added this contributed to her mount losing ground in the early stages. Trainer B Trimble was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare’s record for its racing manners.
 
VALENTINA EXPRESS – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide throughout.
 
 
RACE 2: EMERALD ISUZU UTE OPEN PLATE (1000 METRES)
 
REAL KEY – When asked to comment on the performance, jockey A Butler advised that the gelding failed to maintain the fast tempo set throughout the event. He further added he wasn’t overly disappointed in the overall performance.
 
LILY ALLEZ (NZ) – Raced keenly throughout. Apprentice J Devine was reminded of her obligations under the provisions of AR131(b) to ride her mounts out fully to the finish. In assessing the matter, stewards were mindful that her actions had not compromised her mounts chances of finishing third.
 
GOLD ACADEMY – Raced wide in the early stages. Carried wider over the final 200m when READY TO TORQUE shifted out.
 
READY TO TORQUE – Jumped away awkwardly. Shifted out under pressure over the final 200m carrying GOLD ACADEMY continually wider. Apprentice C Stuart was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding. In assessing the matter, stewards were mindful of the level of shift from apprentice Stuart over an extended period.
 
 
RACE 3: FAIRBAIRN BAKERY EMERALD BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
 
Correct weight was delayed when the photo finish system malfunctioned. After viewing the relevant footage and being satisfied with the respective judges’ placing, correct weight was declared.
 
RED VICAR – Slow to begin.
 
LADY MASQUERADE – Raced wide from the 500m. Laid in when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
CANNON HILL – Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the right foreleg. Trainer P O’Toole was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again.
 
CARRARA KING – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
LUTINE BELLE – When asked to comment on the performance, jockey W Satherley stated the mare felt uncomfortable in its action. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
CHALKLEY – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
SUPER SLICK – Raced wide throughout. Apprentice N Olzard advised in her opinion, that the mare may not have handled the track conditions.
 
CANTOR – Was declared a late scratching at 10:20am by order of stewards due to no available rider.
 
 
RACE 4: RES Q TRAINING SOLUTIONS QTIS MAIDEN PLATE (1280 METRES)
 
MISHANI I AM – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
WILDNESS – Commenced to lose ground near the 700m and took no competitive part in the event. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey R. Silvera Olivera advised that the gelding proved very disappointing. Trainer J McConarchy advised that consideration would now be given to its immediate racing future. Mr McConarchy was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s record. A post-race veterinary examination revealed blood present in the mouth due to a tooth injury.
 
SEND THE MONEY – Slow to begin.
 
MISS PALLADIUM – Jumped away awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. Improved on to the heels of READY LIGHTLY rounding the home-turn and had to be steadied on a number of occasions. Shifted out rounding the home-turn momentarily inconveniencing PLAY IT AS IT LAYS. Apprentice C Stuart was advised to exercise in greater care. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
PLAY IT AS IT LAYS – Shifted in on off the heels of MISS PALLADIUM which shifted out rounding the home-turn.
 
 
RACE 5: CRACKED PEPPER CANTEEN & CATERING BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP (1615 METRES)
 
KEFALONIA – When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice N Olzard advised that the gelding travelled well in the early and middle stages, however proved disappointing when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
ROY’S ROAD – Raced in restricted room for some distance passing the 1400m. Improved on to heels near the 500m and had to be steadied for some distance. Shifted wider passing the 300m to obtain clear running.
 
NATIVE BEE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
GIGI FILLE – Slow to begin.
