Race 1: BENCHMARK 55 HDCP 800 Metres
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow R Howard, trainer of second placegetter ZENKALI to view the photo finish image for first.  After doing so, correct weight was declared on the judge’s semaphored placings.
 
JEPTOO – began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid out near the 600 metres and hampered MONTE LAGO.

DUBLE MEANING – slow to begin.  Forced wider rounding the home turn.
 
MONTE LAGO – hampered near the 600 metres when JEPTOO laid out.
 
LIVERPOOL JANE – shifted out to improve rounding the home turn resulting in DUBLE MEANING being forced wider on the track.
 
SHREWVELON – as rider T Chambers was to be overweight, she was replaced by J Missen.  T Chambers was fined the sum of $100.
 
SYLVAN PRINCESS – app J Hodge was fined the sum of $100 when unable to claim his full allowance on the mare.
 
EMBER GLOW – raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
 
 
Race 2: MAIDEN PLATE 1200 Metres
 
ARTFUL SONG – shifted in near the 1000 metres.  Rider C Small was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
 
SHE’S FOR RANSOM – slow to begin.
 
KONTA – rounding the home turn was tightened for room and had to be steadied when MORE THAN EDGY shifted out to improve.
 
MORE THAN EDGY – obliged to steady near the 1000 metres when ARTFUL SONG shifted in.  App A Spinks was reprimanded for permitting MORE THAN EDGY to shift out rounding the home turn when insufficiently clear resulting in KONTA being tightened for room and having to steady.
 
TYLERS MISTAKE – rider J Missen reported at scale the filly raced with its head in the air shortly after the start, and as a result settled further back in the field than anticipated. He added that in his opinion TYLERS MISTAKE resented the crossover noseband.
 
 
 
Race 3: BENCHMARK 50 HDCP 1200 Metres
 
EFFECTIVE ASSASSIN – shifted in shortly after the start crowding runners to the inside.  Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
EARLSTOUN RULER – crowded for room shortly after the start.
 
KAIZARI – raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
WARDEH – slow to begin.


SEQUASI – shifted out rounding the home turn hampering HOTBOT
 
DR QUINCY – raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
CONMIGO – bumped by another runner near the 600 metres.  Checked at the 400 metres when HOTBOT shifted ground inwards.  App N Fazackerley, rider of HOTBOT, was found guilty of charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 400 metres he made insufficient effort in preventing his mount from shifting in which resulted in CONMIGO being checked and lose its rightful running.  The riding licence of N Fazackerley was suspended for a period of nine days to commence midnight 8/7/17 up to and including midnight 17/7/17.  In assessing penalty, stewards took into account both the racing manners of HOTBOT and the actions of app Fazackerley leading up to the point of the incident. 
 
HAVEN ANGEL – crowded for room shortly after the start.  Held up and unable to be fully tested over the concluding stages of the event.
 
HOTBOT – bumped another runner at the 600 metres.  Shifted in and checked another runner at the 400 metres.  Hampered rounding the home turn when SEQUASI shifted out to improve.
 
CATZEL – slow to begin.
 
 
 
Race 4: BENCHMARK 50 HDCP 1200 Metres
 
 
HASHTAG YOLO – shifted in near the 1000 metres hampering MY CRIMSON LAD.
 
QUATTRO FANTASTICO – near the 500 metres tightened for room and had to be steadied.
 
MY CRIMSON LAD – slow to begin.  Hampered near the 1000 metres.
 
CLANG AGAIN – raced wide for the majority of the event.  App J Hodge was reprimanded for allowing the gelding to shift in near the 500 metres tightening QUATTRO FANTASTICO.  Rider reported at scale the gelding had a tendency to hang at various stages of the race.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.
 
KINGSMITH FLYER – jumped out at the start and bumped LE RANA TORO. A post race veterinary examination of KINGSMITH FLYER revealed the gelding had bled from the near side nostril. Trainer Ms L Stratton was advised KINGSMITH FLYER would be required to gallop satisfactorily over 1000 metres before a steward prior to its next race start. Ms Stratton added that it was now her intention to spell the gelding.
 
LE RANA TORO – at the start was bumped by another runner.  Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
MACHU PICCHU – stood flat-footed at the start and lost some ground.
 
 
 
 
Race 5: MAIDEN PLATE 1460 Metres
 
DE LA LAD – slow to begin.
 
BALLINGALL PRINCE – declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 12.05pm after the gelding sustained injuries when being transported to the track.  Trainer S Cole was advised BALLINGALL PRINCE would require a veterinary certificate prior to its next race start.
 
MY LUCKY RING – raced wide for the majority of the event.  Following the event, trainer L Clarke indicated the gelding would now be retired from racing.
 
WAR DRUM – raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
ISLAND SUNSET – slow to begin.
 
NATIONAL JEWEL – disappointed for a run near the 100 metres behind the tiring OAKFIELD SUNSET.
 
OAKFIELD SUNSET – when questioned regarding tactics adopted, app H Philips stated that after being slow to begin and caught wide she elected to press forward and eventually obtain the lead near the 900 metres before applying further pressure near the 400 metres which then resulted in OAKFIELD SUNSET weakening over the concluding stages of the event.  After viewing the DVD replay, app Philips concurred with stewards that in hindsight it would have been more beneficial to steady and hold the position outside the leader near the 1000 metres and give OAKFIELD SUNSET an opportunity to finish the race off more strongly.



 
 
 
Race 6:  CLASS B HDCP 1460 Metres
 
SWIPPA DA MOUSE – slow to begin.  On pulling up near the 1500 metre crossing, improved onto the heels of DUBLEO’S LAD and blundered, resulting in app N Keal being dislodged.  SWIPPA DA MOUSE continued to gallop riderless for a considerable distance before being recaptured.  A post race veterinary examination of the mare failed to reveal any abnormality.  App N Keal was examined by QAS medical staff and cleared of any injury.
 
WENSLEY ROAD – the start of this event was delayed when the gelding proved difficult to load.
 
RED RAGGA – raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
GET OUTA UTAH – slow to begin.  Raced wide in the early and middle stages of the event before obtaining the lead near the 800 metres.
 
SWINGING – App N Fazackerley was fined the sum of $100 for failing to claim his full allowance on the gelding.
