Weather: Fine Track: Good 4 Rail: True
Stewards: K Daly (Chairman), G Goold
Starter: C Williams
Clerk of Scales: Stewards
Judge: I Schultz

General
As App N Fazackerley did not attend today’s meeting, riding replacements were made as per the meeting summary sheet.  At a subsequent inquiry App Fazackerley was fined the sum of $300 under the provisions of AR85B for failing to fulfil engagements for LAST ROUND (race 2), CANNY EXCEL (race 4), BENICSTRESS (race 5) .

Race 1: MAIDEN PLATE 800 Metres

JACK OF SPADES – Jumped out at the start.  Shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider when being steadied off heels near the 300 metres.

NULLADANE – Bumped at the start.  Pulled up quickly by its rider immediately passing the finishing post.  A post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed an injury to the near fore leg.  Trainer M Boland was advised NULLADANE would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.

HANARIKI – Lost ground when checked near the 300 metres.

MADDIE’S HEART – Raced three-wide throughout with cover.

OUR SAY – Began awkwardly and lost ground.  Raced three-wide throughout.  Hung out rounding the home turn.

Race 2: BENCHMARK 60 HDCP: 800 Metres

FAVOURITE SHADOW – Stewards sought clarification from trainer S Essery over the nomination and acceptance of the gelding in today’s event.  Of interest was Mr Essery’s previously stated intention to retire FAVOURITE SHADOW following the gelding’s disappointing performance at Toowoomba on 25 November 2017.  Mr Essery advised stewards following an injury to the near fore sesamoid it was his decision to retire the gelding, however following a long spell, and after being put back in light work, the gelding responded well, including performing to expectations in a number of jump-outs leading up to today’s event.  A pre-race veterinary examination of FAVOURITE SHADOW cleared the gelding to start.

MAGINOT LINE – Placed in restricted room near the 200 metres.

STICK WITH ME – Raced wide throughout.

SUGAR ROCK – Slow to begin.  Following the gelding’s disappointing performance, Trainer B Robinson will now review SUGAR ROCK’S immediate racing future.

PURE WHISPER – Slow to begin.

COALBANK CAVIAR – Raced wide throughout.  Laid in rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.

Race 3: MAIDEN PLATE: 1200 Metres

MIGHTY HEART – Race three-wide throughout.

NAVILLUS STRYKER – When the pace eased near the 800 metres was obliged to steady from heels.

FELIX FANTASY – Bumped at the start.

REMEMBER BELLA – Checked at the start.

STASH THE SILVER – Slow to begin.  Raced wide with cover throughout.

SUZI BEL – Jumped in at the start checking runners to the inside.

Race 4: BENCHMARK 65 HDCP 1200 Metres

RAINBOW SPIRIT – Checked at the start.  Raced in restricted room near the 400 metres and had to be steadied.

BOBBY BE GOOD – Bumped at the start.  When asked to comment on the below market performance, rider M Gray stated connections were confident of a forward showing particularly as the gelding had performed well first up in the past.  He added after travelling comfortably to the 600 metres, when placed under pressure BOBBY BE GOOD failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.

CANNY EXCEL – Raced three-wide throughout.

TURBO TEDDY – Jumped in at the start checking runners to the inside.

REVELIO – Following the event rider G Geran was examined by QAS medical staff and stood down from rides at the Toowoomba Turf Club meeting later today.  G Geran was advised he must provide a medical clearance prior to his next race ride.

OMISSION – Jumped out at the start.

SHINING BROOKE – Slow to begin.

Race 5: BENCHMARK 50 HDCP 1750 Metres

MAMZAR – Slow to begin.

PIPEMAJOR – Slow to begin.  Tightened for room and obliged to steady near the 1600 metres.

PRINCE OF BARODA – Shifted when not fully clear near the 1600 metres.  App M Shimodaria was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

FILLY CHIC – When asked to comment on the below market performance, rider C Eaton stated the mare raced comfortably in the lead until the 800 metres at which point the pace of the race quickened appreciably.  She added this did not suit FILLY CHIC’s racing pattern, and as a result was under pressure from the 400 metres and failed to finish the race off as expected.  Trainer J White indicated to stewards FILLY CHIC would now be sent for a spell.

RED ZABELLA – Held up from the 400 metres until entering the home straight.
