DUAL ACCOUNT – as the gelding had not raced for a significant period of time, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination on arrival at the track and again before being loaded into the barriers and was passed fit to start. THE DOCTOR – rider N Masuda reported in his opinion the gelding did not appreciate today’s firm racing surface. OUTBACK CHAMP – when asked to comment on the gelding’s apparent below market performance, rider D McIntosh stated after racing in a forward position OUTBACK CHAMP was placed under pressure passing the 800 metres and failed to respond to his riding from that point onwards. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality. Trainer M Boland advised stewards he would now retire OUTBACK CHAMP from racing however was advised if these circumstances were to change the gelding must trial before starting again. CRAIGLEA GUNSMOKE – race three-wide throughout without cover. CRAIGLEA LUKE – approaching the 100 metres was obliged to shift out across heels to obtain clear running. HALF MOON BLUE – after being loaded, became fractious and lunged forward. The mare was removed from the barriers, examined by the club veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start. KEYHOLE – in the presence of Ms N Hemmings, representing trainer M Hemmings, stewards questioned app A Bakos over her riding of KEYHOLE in the event. Ms Hemmings explained as this was the mare’s first race start, instructions were to not bustle KEYHOLE early, adding whilst the mare had competed in a number of jump-outs in Toowoomba, she was of the opinion KEYHOLE would be better suited in races over a longer distance than today’s event. App A Bakos stated KEYHOLE was inclined to race greenly for the majority of the event, and that rounding the home turn and in the straight she was reluctant to pull the whip for that reason, adding she was also conscious that this was the mare’s first race start. After viewing the patrol footage, app Bakos agreed that she had erred in not placing greater pressure on KEYHOLE from the 300 metres. In acknowledging that this was KEYHOLE’s first race start, the greenness shown by the mare, and also app Bakos’s relative race riding inexperience, stewards took no further action other than to advise her not to ride in such a manner that leaves herself open to query. OUR TOP LADY – slow to begin. Weakened badly from the 900 metres and finished tailed-off. Rider M Powell stated after jumping well OUR TOP LADY never travelled at any stage of the event and was most disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormality. Trainer M Boland was advised OUR TOP LADY must trial prior to its next race start. CRAIGLEA FLORIDA – slow to begin. Following a post-race veterinary examination of OUR TOP LADY, the race-day veterinary surgeon reported to stewards swelling on the near side neck of the mare. Trainer M Boland advised stewards that he had treated OUR TOP LADY on Thursday morning (11 July 2019) in that location on the neck, however was unaware of any swelling or abnormality at that time or subsequent to today’s event. Acting on the veterinary advice presented, stewards took no further action other than to direct Mr Boland to present his race-day treatment book to stewards at the Toowoomba race meeting this evening (Saturday 13th July). Race 5: BENCHMARK 60 HDCP 1460 Metres COONOWRIN RUBY – hung out near the 1000 metres, and again rounding the home turn.
