Race 2: SO ODELIA – M Powell – 565kg (+1kg)

The start of this event was delayed approximately 10 minutes due to the QAS ambulance being held up arriving on course.

DYNAMIC JEWEL – Raced three wide throughout. Taken wider rounding the home turn and lost ground.

ULTRA INSTINCT – Slow to begin. Raced greenly at various stages of the event.

NAYTELLRHI BIRD – Taken wider on the track rounding the home turn when LOVE CLASS shifted out abruptly to obtain clear running. C Eaton, rider of LOVE CLASS, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.

MARMION – Raced wide in the middle stages of the event.

OAKVALE LASS – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

MY DAY – Slow to begin.

ROSE OF MAHER – On arrival at the barriers the saddle on the horse was readjusted.

Race 3 – Maiden Plate (1200 METRES)

Correct weight was delayed allowing Stewards, starter Mr D Hodges and L Sykes, rider of unplaced LICENCE TO ROCK and L Barr, rider of 3rd placegetter MAX’S SOURCE, to view the start of the race after both riders reported they may have been disadvantaged as the start was effected. After viewing the patrol footage, it was established that on opening, barriers 9 and 10 failed to catch and swung back slightly. As a result, MAX’S SOURCE missed the start approximately one length and LICENCE TO ROCK was unaffected. Bearing in mind MAX’S SOURCE finished in 3rd place, and bound by AR204(1), both horses were declared definite starters and correct weight declared on the semaphored placings. Remedial work on the barriers were undertaken prior to Race 4.

MAX’S SOURCE – Slow to begin after the barrier partition swung back as the start was effected. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

PRIDE AN’ JOY – Laid out rounding the home turn and when struck with the whip shortly after shifted out abruptly.

PRINCESS POLLYANNA – Leaving the 100m held up on the heels of the tiring HOT OR NOT and went to line unable to be fully tested by its rider.

Following this event, the Track was upgraded to a Good 3.

ARTHUR IN CHARGE – On arrival at the barriers the saddle on the horse was readjusted.

Race 6 - BENCHMARK 55 Handicap (1750 METRES)

ELZANO – Stood flatfooted at the start and lost ground.

HAGGERSTON – Began awkwardly. Stewards questioned C Eaton over tactics adopted on the horse, particularly over the final 400m of the event. Jockey Eaton advised when placed under pressure from the 400m HAGGERSTON was inclined to change legs and lay in resulting her to be unable to ride the horse out in her usual manner. She added in the home straight HAGGERSTON continued to lay in obliging her to swap her whip from the left to right hand. Trainer B Ahrens advised HAGGERSTON was shown a tendency in the past to hang in and that today’s firmer track may not have suited the horse. He added HAGGERSTON would now be leaving his stable. In taking the matter no further Stewards reminded C Eaton of her obligation to report any matter that may affect the performance of her mounts and further that she should seek Stewards permission prior to leaving the course.

BRICKSTER – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

BOULT – Following the event C Taylor, rider of BOULT, reported after the horse had been loaded into the barriers, his left forearm bumped the barrier partition. C Taylor was assessed by the Club doctor and cleared of any serious injury.
